Ralph isn't my most favourite person😔still it turned out OK over all with the retirement. Worrying with the RIF at the time though with a family to feed etc. Turned out OK in the end and that was honourable of you covering his ass 👍
Looking back I'm more disappointed in General for his inability to see that I was looking after him and his command. He didn't even ask Ralph why he was sitting there....Stevie Wonder could have figured it out.😆
Former C-5A crew chief here. I was stationed at Travis AFB (60 OMS) during the later part of the 1970's and regularly road my 1976 Honda 750F (modified cafe style) with a group of like-minded USAF motorcycle enthusiasts to Lake Berryessa. Those were the days!
Ralph boy should be ashamed of himself, especially since you were taking the bollocking for his tardiness right in front of him . I would have spilled the beans because that lad deserved everything that would come his way, instead he got promoted. What an upside down place the world can be. Loved that road you were riding, magnificent.
Roger I don't think he was a bad guy he just let the fear paralyze him. He had to live with it just like I did when I left my anger get the best of me starting my Air Force career. You just have to recognize it was not your finest moment and don't let happen again. I might have lost a little money in my military retirement but it gave me another opportunity to try my luck in the motorcycle business which was great.
@ it did! I sometimes look back at a decision here, or there, and wonder how it could have been different. I wouldn’t be where I am, and I’m happy, so in the end, I’m ok with how it has all worked out. No regrets!!
Yeah....I can understand that but I guess a one star General throwing a fit over his golf game bothered me more than a guy being too scared to admit he screwed up. It shouldn't have gotten to the level of somebody losing a career....it wasn't that important.
That is pretty rubbish of your oppo not taking it on the chin. You landed on your feet though. My leaving the forces was a far less interesting tale, but also had me land on my feet. Happy Christmas to you and yours
@@flatcapcaferacer Hahaha, I just got fed up with being 500 miles from home when I wasn't under the waves. The only real drama was I had to give them 12 months notice and was still having to go to sea in that time, but because my notice was in, they stopped paying me my submarine pay even though I was still on a sub, at sea, teaching others how to be a submariner! 🤬
@@flatcapcaferacer I new lads who came back from sea and found their partners had sold everything and left with no trace and all the money gone.... I avoided relationships mostly then because of that!

@flatcapcaferacer 😂😎
But just think of the pension you would be on if you got that promotion. Your garage would be overflowing with bikes! 😂

Ron it seems like a million years ago but the memories are still there
@@flatcapcaferacer It sure does. My, how time flies by. Great memories they were (most of them anyway 😂)!
Fascinating, thanks for sharing. Life's twists and turns eh!
It worked out well for me in the end

Great Story and ride out Jerry. I would also have pointed out the person responsible for the late signing.
Nah Joe, it would not done any good anyway.
You kept your honor, Ralph besmirched his How could your future suffer?
Nice ride!!!

You would have been awesome at that Logistics Command. Sorry you missed out on that.
Too bad Ralph derailed your career, but in the end, it worked out well for you. I assume you don’t regret the way it ended up?
@@Motoramblings Everything worked out for me just in different way.

If there's one thing I learned from my time in the British Army is to not take the fall for someone else cock up, unless they were a friend.

@@flatcapcaferacer True, still at least you had an out on your own terms that didn't leave you in the wind without a job.
C’mon Ralph! Own up to it!😂
Ralph new what happened to me afterwards but he still remained quiet. Oh welll
@ That is not good. I wonder if he ever felt regret about that as he got older…. I’m not a veteran, but there’s a lack of honor right there….

I think trying to do the right thing pays off most of the time. You'll have to tell us your story to sometime.

That seems all kinds of wrong . One of my old friends was a submariner and family life for most of them didn't work out

@HippoDrones Yeah my buddy got back a day early and found someone else sleeping with his wife.
