    I saw this announced on Alex’s page so thought I’d check it out. It was great! I live in DC and after 20 years of working at places like Deloitte and some boutique consultant firms, I came to a full-stop. I quit my job and spend all day making jewelry, doing my makeup for fun, and listening to podcasts. lol. Burn out is real!!! Now at 42, I have no plan at all and am just watching my PhD gather dust. Screw it all. Live in joy ladies!

    just want to add this to the convo as it didn't come up and i couldn't see any comments bringing it up, but i think it is important to consider the non-straight perspective in terms of the 'being friends with the opposite sex' topic. i understand 'opposite sex' here actually refers to the sex that you're sexually attracted to, so for bisexual people, that would mean that we could have no friends at all aside from our partner. i just think this is an interesting and important point that was missing from the conversation :-) thanks for the pod!

    • @ValiantVicuna
      @ValiantVicuna หลายเดือนก่อน

      Second this comment, as a pansexual person. My husband and I have decided on limits of people we are allowed to keep in direct communication, but it was a mutual agreement and it wasn't gender-related. All exes are not to be directly contacted by either of us, because we don't want to bring in the opportunity of drama.

    This is coming from someone who loves the podcast and is a regular listener, but I'd appreciate it if Alex as the guest was encouraged to speak more. I feel like many of the topics that were brought up we've already heard you guys talk about at length in previous episodes, whereas there aren't any podcasts or interviews with Alex out there (that I know of). She's an interesting person with thoughtful takes on things, and I would've loved for her to go more in depth on many threads of the conversation, especially on things that are more personal to her. It was great fun regardless, love you all ❤

    • @Not4EveryonePod
      @Not4EveryonePod  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      I think this is great feedback and we agree. We were very intentional about how we wanted to handle our first guest (since we haven’t really done it before) and now I can see we will probably want to do it differently next time. We were very wary of bringing on anyone who would disrupt the “friends chatting at an intimate sleepover” vibe since that intimacy and mutuality is what makes the podcast special. So we specifically decided we didn’t want it to feel like an interview with a stranger, but rather 3 friends chatting instead of 2. Even to the extent that we had to rearrange the chair setup so that it wasn’t Jess and Caroline barreling down at Alex from across a table, interview style. All that to say - that was the thinking. But now having played it out, I don’t think we’ll take that approach again and I can see why it falls flat. It would be better to treat the guest like a proper guest. Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, we do agree.

    Okay, one time at an international airport, a Frenchman scoffed down his nose at us, said "Americans, ridiculous, why do you have to pack so much" -- he was carrying - no joke, one of those free-gift, thin drawstring "backpacks" with like three items in it, not a change of clothes, and probably not even a toothbrush. Respect. But, he was not clean or shiny and y'all absolutely are ❤️

      The secret is... They buy things at the destination.
      I'm totally serious here, I remember seeing a person (love Rajiv, and he actually is clean and shiny) show how he packs and a big part of it is buying things at the destination. Which is totally cool, but I don't want to be wasteful or overly stressed. And what stresses out is different. I'm stressed about carrying luggage/losing it so I pack less, but no way in hell am i letting myself arrive at my destination at night without PJs, toothbrush, toothpaste, and good body and skin care cause that is stress and headache to me. I am also not gonna leave half used shit at the hotel. That's my money bitch lol

    I remember when Alex mentioned Caroline's YT channel and I clicked over, and immediately fell in love. Very happy you all connected and found each other-- this was a really great conversation! ♥️
    (Oh, and the whole "Can we normalize /x/?" You're right. It starts with you. That old saying "Be the change you want to see in the world" is so true. Remember that humans learn primarily by mimicking what they see. By modeling the change you want to see in the world, the people around you will see it as an option they can try. It's pretty friggin' cool, as long as people wield this power for good. 😁 JFC this is long. Sorry.)

    I wanted to spark the discussion about therapist breakups further- I'm starting school for counseling in the fall and I have a slightly diff take. I totally agree it is up to the client to choose the best way for them to break up, it doesn't have to be in person, and you don't owe them anything. However it is an intimate relationship with someone and if you respect them I wouldn't ghost, the same way I would try not to ghost other people in my life. But more importantly it could provide good closure for the client and good feedback for the therapist to improve. However, this doesn't apply to therapists you don't think could handle this (in which case it's a great cue to leave). I plan to care about each and every client I see and not knowing if they are leaving because of something I can improve going forward, or if it's unrelated to me, or if they are safe, is what would concern me. But I would 1000% respect their right to leave and not pry or coerce them.
    Thanks for talking about this! ❤️

    in case it’s helpful for anyone, here’s a share about red light devices since they were briefly mentioned alongside microcurrent devices, because I was very skeptical about them before i had one…
    I use the Dr. Dennis Gross one, (was able to get it on super sale for about $250) and the difference in my skin has been NUTS, the recovery from acne or allergic reaction is exponentially quicker. I definitely notice a difference for the worse when I don’t use it as well. The main deal is that LED science is not that complicated, but there are correct wavelengths including the distance the diodes sit from your skin. Dr. Shereen Idriss is a cosmetic dermatologist on TH-cam, and she has a video about what math to check before you buy as well as some recs. The two dudes that are deems also have a vid on it. I definitely feel very stupid while using it, but shit works. Also as with anything, consistency is key. loved this collab. xoxo you gals are the best

    Ok so I totally understand the flex of being able to pack everything in a carry-on 😅 BUT hear me out - I get anxiety about lugging stuff around an airport, and figuring out where everything is when I arrive, so if I *don't* have to wait for and then lug around checked bags it's, like, one less thing to worry about (ESPECIALLY for international travel) Plus, there's no chance of luggage being lost or damaged if it's with you the whole time.

    OK, so about packing for a trip. If you have a one-stop (meaning if you go from point A to point B and back) it doesn't matter how many bags you take no matter how long you are going for. If, however, you go on a trip that involves going from A to B to C to D to B again etc., it would be wiser to pack only things that are needed and no extra and no what ifs.

    @38:54 I’m an esthetician (and I’m not saying this for business but for safety) so yes for the most part, depending on the machine, you absolutely should get stuff done at a spa/medical spa because the machines will be better quality, for quicker results, and safer performed by someone who has trained with it. LED light treatments are more effective in the spa too because of the strength of the LEDs. Most machines (not all but most especially the cheap ones) they sell on Amazon or online do not have the strength of light needed to actually work like it should. (I.e. Dr. Dray video) Now, I am FULLY on the side of a micro current and galvanic current should only be used in a spa. I said what I said on that one. The high frequency machines that use electrodes and actual electricity, are fine for at home use if you read the instructions and use it correctly and as long as you don’t have any contraindications. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I love the optimism that men and women can be friends. Not been my experience at all; I'm in my 60s. I've seen what appears to be a platonic friendship, and then BAM! Opportunity knocks, and the guy makes a move, whether it's appropriate or not. Nope, I'll never believe it, but I love the optimism out there. I also don't see a lot of altruism, so my opinion should be weighed carefully against this major self disclosed flaw.

    I only judge people for packing too much stuff if it actually does affect me 😅 for example, my friends and I once went on a road trip together for a weekend vacation. Genuinely just two nights at an Airbnb a four hour drive from our town. They (3 women) had so many suitcases filling up the back of the trunk that my single backpack had to go at my feet. It kinda gave me the feeling that they assumed I'd bring actually nothing because I'm the low maintenance one, and I didn't appreciate it lol.

    Re DC dress code… govt (and contracting) jobs are paid for with tax payer money, so the idea is to create the image of frugality so that the perception is money is being spent responsibly. Tax payers don’t want to contribute to a consultant’s Porsche and Gucci suit (regardless of what the reality is or isn’t)

      @malemaline 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Not4EveryonePod Oh great :)
      I'll add more detail. First, to say I have no romantic interest at all in him. I moved in and we started hanging out and got on well. He's a bit awkward and has social anxiety. Working on his PhD. Not very social, but interesting. He said he was in a long distance relationship.
      As we got to be better friends he confided that there were some struggles in his relationship and the gf wanted an open relationship and he didn't. I shared some resources with him on relationships like Gottman research and other stuff just to see if it would help them. We got close because we talked about personal challenges and are into health and stuff.
      After a while I just noticed he'd treat me in a way that shows he likes me. He'd always want to do things with me, but not with our other roommate. Then I started online dating and he said he was on a break with his girlfriend. I started to distance myself a bit and he got moody and emotional and stuff. It just became uncomfortable because I was his main social outlet and we live together and he's always home so it got to be way too much for me.
      Anyway, when he noticed I was getting distant he's back with his girlfriend I guess. It's all weird and I'm not sure if I want to remain friends after I move out which will be soon hopefully.
      Sorry for the long message but those are the deets.

    Silly comment… but you all will understand and appreciate and see the results of, at home microcurrent, red light, home laser blah blah blah when you are over 50… until then… don’t worry about it. Just keep wearing your sunscreen babies! Love you all- your mom viewer…Hahahaha

    I liked this but you didn't get to talk very much. Maybe you enjoyed not being the focus of every topic. They seem like nice ladies.

    Jess looked uncomfortable when she said, “men and women can be friends.” Body language said that's a lie.

      Bahaha fair enough but I’d argue my body language was uncomfortable this entire video - I was like wait, how do I sit in a chair again?? If that chair is on camera in a room with other chairs that are on camera..????

      @@Not4EveryonePodhard disagree with this commenter I think she did a great job and in fact I wanted Caroline to talk even more lol I think Jess has a tendency to ramble a bit so Caroline sometimes needs to cut in to keep the podcast going 😅 which is totally fine they make a great team

    I have the answer on how to find fulfillment. Live in the now. What is exciting to you right NOW?
    We lose our joy because we're doing what we think we "should" be doing, instead of what excites us.
    Spiritual gurus say excitement is your higher self telling you you're on the right path. If you aren't happy it's because you're not following what excites you the most.
    If you follow your joy and excitement you will have abundance. Your heart will be happy and you will find success because you've listened to your intuition (higher self) You're soul knows what it needs to do and when you're doing what you "should" or what everyone expects of you, you'll feel heavy and inauthentic.
    Your subscribers love you and care. We'll all be here when you come back. I've watched you for years and you've been uploading so many videos a week for a long time. I don't think you do it because it brings you joy. you do it because it's what you think you should do.
    The only person that truly matters is you. When you're happy, you'll radiate joy and light that we'll all feel through the screen. If you decide to change careers, you'll radiate joy to those around you.
    When people care about you, and we all do, we want what's best for you. Not selfishly what's best for us. You'll find your way and taking a break from TH-cam will allow you to breathe and take time to turn your brain off and listen to what truly makes your heart happy.
    You'll be a better partner, a better cat mom, a better friend....you'll feel light. You deserve to be happy and you will be.
    I saw a clip from Viola Davis where she said "You are the love of your life." Love her!
