- Very good quality. Sugar Ray Robinson and Rocky Graziano talk as "old" men about the war they fought against each other in a boxing ring many years earlier.______________________________________________________________________________Tags: the way it was sugar ray robinson rocky graziano graciano willie pep sandy saddler joe louis joe walcott documentary boxing lennox lewis mike tyson muhammad ali floyd mayweather manny pacquiao pacman victor ortiz joe louis frazier rocky marciano knockout highlights tribute compilation boxing boxer amir khan joe calzaghe best british fight sonny liston rocky marciano boxing boxer emile griffith rubin carter gene tunney jack dempsey greatest fighter roy jones junior bernard hopkins ray robinson
so humble and so human. Great guys these two.
Sugar Ray died in 1989 and Rocky in 1990, sad times for boxing fans, these guys were real fighters.
@@andyelliott8027 Mayweather jnr. could learn a lot from sugar ray, wish they could both square up in their prime, so sugar ray could school him.
@@trebordraw Ray by stoppage I think. He stopped some tough middleweights, much bigger, and tougher guys than Mayweather who has actually been wobbled by some pretty light punchers, small guys too.
@@andyelliott8027 I think so too pal, mayweathers obviously brilliant defensively so gave him the benefit of the doubt, but he can't KO Sugar Ray, much harder punchers tried and failed, for 1,000's rounds.
Robinson was the most complete fighter I have ever seen...
Hagler or Leonard would have given him a run for his money
@salaialexander7022 most definitely. But they came later on, with better training conditions, supplements and a lighter schedule. Let's see either of them fight over ten times a year like Robinson did often, heck he sometimes had two fights in a week. After he lost to LaMotta, he had another fight then rematched LaMotta and won, all within a span of two weeks. They were a different breed of men back then.
well said
@@Hugh_Morris exactly and you'll find a lot of champion fighters role model was robinson such as leonard, Ali, mosley, Roy Jones, floyd... I could go on all day, robinson was the true P4P GOAT
@@salaialexander7022 hagler ou leonard naurais meme pas ete conu sil avait boxer a cette epoque croyer moi donc je rectifie
sugar ray is the best boxer that ever lived!
there were some seriously hard lads around during his era!
NEVER, I loved Sugar Ray, he was Great for HIS TIME, but Duran was better, Leonard was better, Mayweather was better and can you imagine Muhammad Ali if he was a WELTERWEIGHT??? Ali was the Greatest that ever lived. Duran was next in my opinion.
Man of Steel well, that's my opinion!, and i know i'm right, mate.
lancashire bomber Well, I'm not right all the time, BUT, I'm NEVER wrong!
Man of Steel are you sitting down son?..you ARE wrong, this time.
lancashire bomber Never wrong. I'm the most knowledge Boxing Expert of All Times!
It's been said many times....Pound for pound Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest fighter....He had it all .
Sorry. Duane novick.
You'll never see another like him the perfect fighting machine.
His record makes everyones record seem insignificant
I think anybody who fought him would agree
These two legends passed away 1 year apart. Sugar in 1989 and Rocky in 1990.
RIP
The respect they have for each other is a testament to both great fighters. Sugar Ray Robinson P4P is the greatest boxer ever.
You can tell these two liked each other. Mutual respect. Ray Robinson was the greatest of them all. He had it all.
great to see such mutual respect from tough guys
Paul Newman
Today, all the TH-cam experts would say Rocky never knocked him down, he slipped...And to Sugar Ray's credit, he admitted himself that it was a knockdown and legit punch
Just when you think Robinson looks fairly ordinary, he moves quick as a cat and delivers several really hard, accurate blows. He does seem to be an exceptional talent.
Yes fighters had genuine respect and admiration for each other in those days, they were pure class in the ring and out of it
The great thing about Robinson was that he was not only a fantastic boxer , but he could adapt his style almost at will to counteract any opponent he faced . A truly remarkable boxer and athlete .
Amazing seeing these men, no apparent brain damage or slurs in their speech.
Two great fighters, and clearly two great guys.
Graziano possesses a much better counter timing than I thought.
What is amazing is Robinson had 200 professional fights, and 80 amateur ones, and in this interview he sounds like a retired professional. Shows you he was the one giving the beating 90% of the time in his fights.
It's the rhythm that SRR had , never quite seen a fighter have it like he did
Sugar Ray and Rocky: Real super boxing talent, heavenly class acts, and sweet personalities that doesn't exist anymore.
That knockdown at the start is the best counter punch I've ever seen.
never judge a book by its cover this is the goat...even ali idolised him..
Imran Ali right
Robinson had everything including power...murderous power.
Never saw anyone move like Ray Robinson...style and grace...
ray and rocky amazing love re living boxing not what its like now
Good to see these two legendary boxers in good shape 25 years after their time in the ring. Sugar Ray was Ali’s model, move well, dont’t get hit and box sharp and fast. at full reach to the head.
SRR. Nobody since has even come close to his amazing ability to box. People can either dance or punch. He had it all + a great boxing brain. And I loved that he was always fighting! No boring wimpy fights like these days. SRR P4P destroys them all. No contest.
+Jason Corderoy THE BEST EVER G.O.A.T.
Jason Corderoy I wish we can bring back 15 rounds
Even the great Ali said many times Ray Robinson was the best ever he even copied him his footwork and combinations
Right on!
Manny Pacquiao
This is beautiful.
Rocky and Ray a pair of gems.
That was a hell out a knockout! What a beautiful combination. Rocky wasn't a pretty fighter but he was still worthy as a champion.
There will never be another boxer like sugar Ray Robinson. A magnificent fighter gifted with all the attributes and superlatives you can come up with. The men he fought came from a different era. Today no one ever fights over 200 opponents. Not even close. Rip sugar they broke the mold when you passed.
They should make a movie of these guys.
This is hilarious 🤣 Sylvester
Yes totally agree
Two Great Champs, unbelievable interview. Just watching this brought a tear to my eye. Thanks for Posting this......🎸💚
Love these old shows!
It is a great honor and privilege to have Robinson and Gaziano share their experiences.
Simply---- Class act. A true legend.
Class acts in and out of the ring from an era of so many great fighters, we'll never see their likes again.
Ask his wife children about that for more accurate description of who what he was
@@virgildoc Which guy you speaking about?
16:00 Sugar: "You 'C' sharp or your 'B' flat" - Ha Ha, excellent quote.
You C# or you B flat!! LOL, perfect! Ray was just such a class act, such a complete Champ in and out of the ring, Ray the GOAT!
Love you Ray, RIP...
He truly was the GOAT nobody doubts it
Daniaal Ali Him, Muhammad Ali and Jack Johnson are the top 3 best boxers ever.
***** Yeah you dumb ass, do some research.
***** You're fuckin' stupid, just stfu. Joe was extremely slow. Jack was a master of ring science. He had power, speed and amazing fencing footwork, he is considered a martial artist you stupid fuck. Bruce Lee created JKD from Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey and Muhammad Ali, with Wing Chun. Go watch UFC fuck boy. You don't know shit about Jack or boxing.
***** Bruce Lee did have notes not only on Ali but also Dempsey and Rocky Marciano as well.... he noted Dempsey on the bobbing and weaving in boxing and Rocky Marciano on different punches.... John Little's book "Art of Jeet Kune Do" is based on Lee's notes and are actually in the book
I'm a couple years too young to have seen em fight in person, but old enough to remember when this show was on TV. As well as watching Rocky on the Merv Griffin Show as a frequent guest. Also I remember Sugar Ray had an entertainment show on TV where he sang&danced. Back in the late 50's&early 60's there was boxing on one of three stations our black& white TV got, every weekend. Those were the days! Robinson--Graciano is a classic.
I love listening to the famous legend fighters.
I met Rocky in Manhattan when I worked as a doorman on my break, he said hello and turned to a friend and said you see people don't forget, we sure don't Rocky, bless his soul and Sugar Ray Robinson, two class acts.
Humble guys both are great
Ray said he didn't really like to fight and it was more of a job to him than anything else. The thing about Ray from what I've seen is he had all that speed and skill and precision to go along with one punch KO power. That's very very rare. Guys like Ali and Leonard had those kinds of skills, and big time chins like Ray, but not the same power.
The only criticism or weakness one could say about Ray is he got hit too much, but that was part of his style. He was a risk-taker, and you have to plant to throw those bombs he did
It's really aggravating that there is no film of Ray in his absolute prime--and none of his only loss in his first 130 fights. I would gladly pay a good chunk of money to see how LaMotta beat him...IF he beat him
Gotta admit Ray could put away his opponents with either hand
bertelliish thing that struck me is when they asked LaMotta, a guy who knows about getting hit, who hit harder than Ray, he had to go all the way up to Bob 'Bombadier' Satterfield, a guy he fought at 164, who also fought at heavyweight, a guy who fought Ezzard Charles and actually KOed Cleveland Big Cat Williams
when you consider that a guy who as an amateur was a featherweight, broke in as a lightweight, and was prime at welter gets compared to another guy who wasn't very good EXCEPT for his power, which let him hang in there with heavyweights, by a guy who should know...man, that's really incredible
if you look at those highlights of ray busting up middleweights, like you say 'with either hand', the thought of him at welter is just scary
a fun piece of trivia is that Ray had 40 first round KO's as a featherweight amateur, in about 85 fights, which means if you climbed in with him, flip a coin as to whether you're leaving the first round upright
anytime power like that carries up multiple weight classes, it means you're dealing with a killer
Duran hit hard, hands of stone and all that, destroyed people at lightweight, but once he climbed up, not so much
How would he beat mayweather break it down for me ??
Daniaal Ali
they'd never fight. Floyd is too small and Ray hit too hard, destroying people much bigger and much tougher than Floyd with one punch. Floyd is just too small for the nearly 6' tall Robinson...and Robinson would walk thru Floyd like his punches weren't there, because Ray was never knocked out in 200 fights and had one of the very best chins, all-time. Floyd would still be hard to hit, but lesser fighters not even in their prime have staggered Floyd, and if Ray hits him, with that kind of power, Floyd doesn't just stagger, he sleeps
Pac can't hit half as hard as Robinson, is nowhere near Robinson's technical ability, and Robinson has 5 inches reach on Pac, yet Pac landed solidly on Floyd as least once, and with Robinson, once would be all it takes
+Joe Johnson Robinson took risks at times and he got hit because he always fought with a magnificent ferocity. He was never afraid to stand in there and trade punches with an opponent. He was so good in his prime he just hardly ever got hit back. Sugar Ray Robinson had a great chin. It actually rivaled Lamotta's. As you may know, in his career Robinson got hit - but in his 200 fights as a pro he was never really knocked out. Never. He was only stopped one time in his career because of heat exhaustion in his bout with Joey Maxim when he moved up to fight for the light heavyweight title. Robinson still, to this day - over 50 years after having fought in his last bout - , is deserving of being called the best boxer ever pound for pound.
Growing up- I used to see Rocky on TV a lot- as a comedian or on commercials, I had no idea he had been a world champion fighter. He was a beast in the ring. Unfortunately some of his best fights- like the second Zale fight, were never filmed. One of the few fighters to make more money outside of the ring than inside.
These are two champions recalling a classic fight. Sugar Ray is the most complete boxer and fighter that I have ever seen in my life.
What a gem of a clip!
Sugar Ray was the coolest cat eva!
It's a very general saying, but, he is the BEST fighter i've ever seen.
SRR - The Greatest boxer of all time!
fantastic human beings. especially sugar ray.
Robinson mentioned that the hardest he'd ever been hit was by Artie Levine. Levine was a wonderful fighter who retired early. Levine actually knocked out Robinson in that fight that Sugar referred to. It was his misfortune though that the referee escorted Levine to his corner rather than just directing him to go there, and the normally 10 second count went on for 21 seconds.
I gotta see that one
Eh oui les plus grand champion sont souvent les plus conus
What great men , with class, happy n joking with each other. Even the presenter is genuine and nice! In fact the whole show oozes a warm glow of decency , the champs are full of respect for each other as is the commentator. Wish things were more like that now! Instead we get the exact opposite, money hungry, soulless , empty shit in any sport or on any tv channel ... We live in a shit age when it comes to things that matter
+Josef Mandel Exactly right! Watching this is fantastic. When they showed Rocky's face against the backdrop of his fight with Tony Janiro i had a tear in my eye. It's great to look back at these legendary fighters.
+andy elliott Sure is great to look back, and see real champions. Those were the days. Mutual respect. Decency. Long gone, now.
+Josef Mandel YEA ITS NOT THE SAME AS IT ONCE WAS ITS ALL CORRUPT WHICH IS A SHAME AS BOXING NEEDS SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL TO LIFT THAT ONCE GREAT SPORT OUT OF ALL INJUSTICE AND AND CORRUPTION AND BRING IT TO LIGHT AGAIN BOXING IS A SPECIAL SPORT THAT IS SLOWLY DWINDERLIG TO AN ABBRUPT END SHAME..
+Josef Mandel This was a great show that was on Sat afternoons in the mid 70s, always looked foreward to it. Had baseball, football stars, everything. I was just a kid and sure do miss those days
+Thomas Grizzell No need to shout ! We're not deaf!
Pioneer of modern boxing, the best, Sugar Ray Robinson
Best boxer of all time. Before the valentines day massacre, Sugar had just fought 5 fights in a month winning all 5. They had rematches within 4 weeks back then and that's with taking another fight in between. Now these so called champions fight 2 times a years max.
They fight two times every three years especially in the HW division. Sometimes once every three years, I don't even watch boxing anymore.
Notice Ray staying shielded from the left while easily seeing the right coming. Jeezus was he scientific with it. If u don't understand boxing u won't understand why he was the best to do it. If u know why ur looking at, this dude was too smooth..wow
RIP Sugar Ray Robinson🖤
Watching Sugar Ray's beautiful fighting it is clear to see where Muhammed Ali got his beautiful boxing style from. Watching him fight is just amazing, Sugar Ray Robinsom it's the personification of boxing as an art. And Rocky Graziano was a great fighter too, a hard hitter with a tough chin. This was amazing to watch, glad I got to watch this
Check out Johnny Bratton , The Sugar Ray Robinson clone in that era.
What a man Ray Robinson is! I will have a similar record one day! He is the greatest
Are u kidding me ??
Good luck with that Robinson was 91.0 before his first loss
What a gentlemen
Just discovered this show... seen The Brown Bomber and Jersey Joe now Sugar Ray & Rocky-- GREAT STUFF!!
Kings these two.
Omg I am in Aww off these 2 great boxers, sitting on Sofa, best off pals absolute gentleman ❤
I remember seeing Graziano and LaMotta kidding around one time about their unsavory pasts. Jake mentioned that both had at one time stolen things, but only things that began with the letter A. Things, he said, like A bike, A car, A fur piece, etc. Many have said that Rocky wanted no part of LaMotta and that is why they never fought. Carmen Basilio was another great boxer of that era, and one who actually did defeat Robinson,
Interesting
Sugar Ray tricked him with that foot movement and then just turned on him and caught him with that quick combination.
Two legends of boxing.
VERY BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! THANKS! Year?
ray still looks like butter.... to this day.... that's why boxing's unique, if you watch old basketball, baseball, football tapes those games have evolved so much... but with boxing the greats of yesteryear look as good if not better than their predecessors
My dad said Rocky made a good living in show biz, cuz he murdered the English language.
Don dunphy and lou duva and son Turner and many more all agree P4P Robinson was the best but marciano was the best heavyweight p4p Robinson, Greb, Langford, Armstrong and pepp were the greatest fighters ever
Proper fighters that would be champions in our day now.
"Rocky, what would you have done differently?" " Well, i'd probably have grabbed him by the throat or sump'n" HAHAHAHAHA!
Thank you.
Graziano was quite a character. Very charismatic guy.
I LOVE THESE TWO GUYS
The heart of these guys was amazing. They would get knocked down by neck breaking punches and pop right back up.
awesome upload bro :)
God, I love Ray! Great guy!
This is when if you were the champ you were the champ, not like today. It seems like there is 30 titles to be had in each division. They fought in those days, no fucking around, they went at it. Sugar Ray Robinson is the best fighter pound for pound ever, no matter what anyones record was. Today he would be undefeated too, back then the mob ran it, so a lot of guys lost fights that they never.
Every fighter should study sugar...
These guys have class!
Ray Robinson--- on a short list of the greatest athletes who ever lived.
Marciano also never sold out to the Mob
What a Humility when Rocky said it’s a pleasure to be KO by Robinson wow!!
No try he gave beatings in 95% of his bouts. He did not start to lose until he got past his prime.
A class act
2 great fighters
Class.
Ray Robinson was a class act. What defined his greatness in the ring wasn't just his ability, but the fact he fought in an era with a lot of superb middleweights and fought all of them - over and over again. When Mayweather tries to stake claim to P4P greatest, that's the problem I have with his arguement. Mayweather refuses to clean out his division. He should have already fought Pacquio a couple of times, Berto, rematch with Ortiz, Bradley... Fight everyone in the top ten of the Ring's ratings
This was a great series. It's too bad it isn't shown much in reruns.
I miss this show.
Both are legends and idols, only boxers- not intellectuals- but with character and lionhearts!!
SPEED KILLS!!!!!!!!
If you don’t “See Sharp you’ll Be Flat” what a music reference😂
"Rocky is counted out, Ray Robinson is the winner,Rocky still wants to fight but Referee Tommy Gilmore won't let him" HAHAHA You'd have to kill Rocky to stop him, FANTASTIC !
To be fair, he has fought and owned some very good fighters. The Corralles and Gatti wins were really impressive. He has won titles in five weight divisions, which is a big deal. Asking him to go to 160 is asking a lot. Only Del Le Hoya did it. Of course, that's what makes Pacquio doing eight divisions so impressive. To win a title at 112 and win one at 147 is incredible (the 154 title fought at 150 is a touch hokey). As for Floyd's being a jerk - I don't know him personally so I won't judge.
