I have a new behind-the-scenes video coming out this week that explains a LOT of my tricks, but in the meantime there's this: th-cam.com/video/-fCn7xeRoa8/w-d-xo.html
thank you, amazing description. that song is the one tune in this video that is an original song, NOT a cover, and you can listen to the "real" version here if you want: cyberattack.bandcamp.com/track/fantasy-killer
Duuuuude I LOVE the "Mirage Chord" trick! I have an OP-1 and I like to do something similar. I'll fill the Tambola with as many notes from one chord as I can too, but then I'll open the Tambola to let the notes out slowly. I replace the notes with notes from other chords, kind of like your example, but eventually the new notes replace all the old ones. It's like stochastic Steve Reich. Great tip!!
that's awesome. the one thing about doing this on the OP-1 is that I always wish I could hit chord changes faster. I did find a way to do that on the Octatrack though, it's pro-tip #5 in my video about that one if you want to check it out. stochastic steve reich is really good
Very creative - and i guess that’s what the OP-1 does to you - it triggers your brain to see the potential to use it in new and unexpected ways to produce cool sounds. Looking forward to your next video.
It’s the ultimate ‘forced creativity because of limitations’ device for me. The rest of my studio can do so much more, but I’m often most creative with OP1
Don't have an OP-1, but I'm going to keep an eye out for any sequencer or FX that can do that marble thing, that was awesome! Been loving the collab videos lately with Tim & Emily. You ever thought about reaching out to Nick Reinhart (of Tera Melos)? I think he's even played with Tim before.
Your first pro tips video for the OP-1 was part of what inspired me to take the $1000 plunge and get one of my own. There's always new things I'm figuring out about that little gadget, and it's been endlessly entertaining for me. Definitely gonna be futzing around with the tricks in this vid. Thanks, man!
@Cyberattack just got my op1 OG and I have to say you're videos are amazing! I already had to replace my keyboard cus heavy blunt smoke ash so any repair videos would be cool? No way your op1 hasn't needed none!!
Thanks for the comment. I bought mine a couple years ago and it hasn't needed mechanical repairs in that time. It's crashed once or twice, but I've been able to fix it by doing a factory reset. But I also started backing up my presets more.
I think the blue knob on the delay adjust the length of the slice that gets repeated. The green knob controls how fast those slices get repeated. The grid delay has a similar thing going with X/Y. My OP-1 is broken so I can't confirm...
Love the early morning release! I’ve been interested in the OP-1 for a while now. Seems like an awesome machine despite being on the pricier side. I’m assuming you’d say it’s worth it, no? Now there’s the added decision of whether the OP-1 or OP-1 Field has a better benefit-to-cost value.
@@CyberattackWorld it's inspired by the soft focus patch on the Yamaha fx 500 which slowdive used during there recording souvlaki, like the Keeley loomer it's basically shoegaze in a box
Very cool. I like how the glissando chord example is like Mr. Crowley but in the Tron arcade game from the 80s. Why are you in Europe? If being called Mr. Cyberattack weirds you out a bit, you might consider introducing yourself by name at the beginning of each video.
Thank you for your tips, I just got my OP-1 Field and I'm having a lot of fun. How do you make your sounds sound so "full"? I'm trying to copy your mirage song to "train" but my version sounds kinda flat, like no depth.
Part of it is probably that I was running my OP-1 into the Strymon Deco, set to give everything a stereo slap-back echo and a touch of tape saturation. If you don't have the Deco that's ok, just try running your OP-1 into a nice stereo reverb--that should add a lot of depth. You can also try turning up the global drive parameter in the OP-1s overall mix settings, which will give it some extra sizzle. But adding some kind of stereo echo or reverb will probably make a big difference.
I love gear and using instruments, but actually composing a song is hard for me. Can you explain how you came up with the chords of the first bit crusher song? The chords alone seem to tell a little story already?
man I WISH i could take credit for those chords, but I was only copying them from this: th-cam.com/video/-CgzoN5eRdk/w-d-xo.html however, if you look at the Ask Me Anything videos that are also on my TH-cam channel, I spend a LOT of time in those answering questions just like yours-about inspiration, where creativity comes from, and the songwriting process. you might find some of those useful, hope that helps
Some of the drum sounds are samples I made or got from outside the OP-1, and maybe a couple of the background synth pads are sounds I've dialed in using GarageBand MIDI synths, but I would say it's 85% OP-1
For those of us that already own the op-1 this is good stuff, I'll probably buy the field as well after they work out all of the bugs. This is a simple example of what I make on the op-1 ~> th-cam.com/video/Ee6PvluO2pk/w-d-xo.html

Recent OP-1 buyer here. You just 100x’d my inspiration! Thank you.
This would normally be my least favourite musical style(s) but what you achieved is simply ace. Thank you.
Forget the OP-1. I need these videos but specifically on your video editing stuffs. Desperately.

Amazing that you come up with new tricks for a machine that‘s already well into its second decade by now… love that tremolo trick!

First useful example of the tamblera (sp?) ever. Nice.

The mirage track is Absolutely amazing! You got a full version somewhere?
yes and no: th-cam.com/video/QMR-u-GVd9c/w-d-xo.html
Mannn I didn’t clock that at all. I am equal parts disappointed and exhilarated. What a song. What a guy. Made my day
Great tips, great tracks, great aesthetics... and then that Aerosmith cover! Hilarious!!
thanks, also i love that song

I definitely think it’s worth it, although I bought mine used (for a little under $1,000). The new thing definitely complicates the decision though.
Hey Cyberattack good video. You should try and experimenlt with the Fx40 soft focus by Catalinbread I would love to see that.
thanks man i will see if i can find one
