Really good video. Did you notice Revolut's Exchange rates have become worse through the years? It is still good but getting closer to Wise after the fees. Any other good tools to get best rate for exchanging currency?
Hi and if I travelled here, for sure, now that I live here, no, because I need a local bank account and for now Revolut is not supported in the UAE sadly. Cheers
Hello Kai, i have a question. Next month i will start my 4 nonths trip trough Asia. I will visit more then 9 countries from Malaysia to Japan. I have booked many flights and i was thinking about upgrading to Ultra considering i am right now with Metal plan. Do you suggest to upgrade it to Ultra? I was thinking too that my 3 friends which i am travelling with don’t have ultra, so they won’t be able to enter lounges? Thank you
Hi, Upgrading from Revolut Metal to Ultra could enhance your travel experience, especially with the following benefits: Enhanced Travel Insurance: Trip and Event Cancellation Protection: Ultra offers coverage for trip cancellations due to various reasons, reimbursing up to £5,000 per claim and annually. This includes scenarios like serious illness or injury affecting you, your travel companion, or a family member. 'Cancel for Any Reason' Coverage: Ultra provides reimbursement of 70% of non-refundable costs for trip or event cancellations for reasons outside standard coverage, with a maximum of £2,500 per claim and up to £5,000 annually. Unlimited Airport Lounge Access: Ultra members enjoy unlimited access to over 1,000 airport lounges worldwide, offering a comfortable space to relax during layovers. Regarding your friends without Ultra memberships, they won't have complimentary lounge access. However, you can purchase lounge passes for them directly through the Revolut app. Each pass is valid for one visit per person, and guests must enter the lounge with you to use their pass. Additional Ultra Benefits: Higher ATM Withdrawal Limits: Withdraw up to £2,000 per month without fees, which is beneficial for extended travel. Increased Currency Exchange Limits: Enjoy unlimited currency exchange Monday to Friday with no fees, facilitating transactions across multiple countries. Considering these advantages, upgrading to Ultra could provide significant value during your extensive travels. Safe and enjoyable journey! Cheers
I’m living in Qatar and send money back home to the UK each month. Costs £30 each time, would the ultra plan remove this cost? as the Revolut account is the receiving account and not the sender. Thanks
I've used Revolut for my main bank for about 4 years now. I did not know they added a savings account with interest!! They didn't when I first started and never saw any announcements for it. I've had cash sitting in my accounts doing nothing for so long, so happy to see they've finally added proper savings accounts with interest. Glad I watched this video! Thank you ❤
Hi Tom, that's amazing to hear, thank you so much and yes, I was also pleasantly surprised when they finally added it, which makes Revolut just so much better than using my local traditional bank account. Cheers mate 👋
Hello Kai . Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. I use Revolut as my second bank account. However I travel every month. I currently am on the standard plan, my first enquiry: do I get cashback in case of using Revolut Stays on standard? Secondly: do you recommend an upgrade in the plan given the fact the monthly travel factor?
Hi mate and thanks a lot. You should still be receiving RevPoints on standard for travels, but only 10 to 1 so it will be basically like 0.1% which is very little. And yes, if you travel definitely consider at least Premium, that's the lowest one I would personally go for 👌
In which country is Ultra only 45 € per month?? The lounge access is ridiculous in my experience. The lounges are nearly always in the wrong terminal or on the wrong side of the access control area, the good lounges are mostly not Dragonpass partners, and there are (nearly) always stay time limits (like 2 or 3 hours) while a lounge would be the ideal place to stay and rest some time on longer layovers. I don't know if it was better before they changed to Dragonpass about a year ago.
Hi, in many from what I understand and I took it from Lithuania. I never had any issues accessing a lounge with Dragon Pass, was just few days ago in Istanbul Airport which has a massive super nice lounge, normally €65 access, got it no worries even could leave and come back so I am happy with it 👌
@@SmartMoneywithKai "Massive" yes, "super nice" well, depends on what you expect, I was there a few days ago, too, it's crowded and you always risk to lose your seat if you need to get another coffee or to go to the loo... Long registration queue. It's certainly not a top notch lounge, but it allows at least a 4 hour stay and it has got a privative terrace for smokers which is good. There is no "cozy" feeling though. It was good for me anyway because the food on the Turkish Airlines flight before had been a mere disaster. Try the lounge in Addis Ababa if you happen to be in the area again, this one is third class at most.
Traditional banks generally don’t charge account maintenance fees. Revolut does. While not a lot, it’s another subscription user pays a fee regardless of non usage.
Hi not sure what you mean exactly. Firstly, all my traditional bank accounts charge me a monthly fee just for having an account with them:) Revolut does have a free plan but they also have paid plans that bring substantially more benefits than just the bank account. So the choice is yours but I am glad to pay for it as the services I receive from them are much more than what I pay for. Cheers
I live in Jersey, where there is no cash back or saving interest, also no Pro version, for people in Jersey I don’t recommend going above Metal, unless they travel quite a bit :)
Hey Kai. Just found out your channel. Really nice! I’m Amex Silver and Wise user. Now considering to move to Revolut with your review. What about the currency rate for intentional transfer? Revolut applies current market one as Wise ?
Hi Dan, that's awesome to hear 🙌 They don't call it market rate, but pretty much the same. If it's a larger transfer I would just compare both, as for different currencies on different days one might be cheaper than the other. Weekends Revolut is more expensive as they charge 1% FX fee, Wise does not 👌 Cheers
Hey Kai, would be interesting to see a Revolut Ultra vs American Express Platinum video. They both seem similar, especially now that Revolut introduced "points" you can convert into airline miles, just like Amex does. I get that our Amex cards have much fewer benefits than the US version, but still Europeans enjoy similar benefits similar to Revolut Ultra (lounges access, discounts, points, etc .) And not to mention, the yearly prices for both cards are almost the same.
Hi Brian, people been asking me about the American Express Platinum card, while the benefits seem nice and maybe comparable, for me the costs are way to high, while the annual fee is almost 50% more, the biggest red flag are 'CASH WITHDRAWAL 4% (min. 5€) FOREIGN CURRENCY PAYMENT 2% of the amount' This is just day light robbery and not something I would ever see myself using. I will be sticking with Revolut for now 😉
@@SmartMoneywithKaithat’s because AMEX is a credit card, not debit. So basically you borrow money if you withdraw from ATM, that’s why you see those fees.
Its actually possible for europeans to open usa credit cards. I would go for one of those chase (visa/mastercard) cards that are 350-550 usd per year. Amex i think only has 30% of penetration in europe so, plus i dont think platinum has no fx fees. Chase have no fx fees, therefore can use abroad unlimited, and those ridicilous 2-10x rewards on various categories.
Great video !! I have been in Revolut for 2 years.. I barely use it for bank transfers. but now, thanks to you, I am thinking of using it for increasing my finances.. As a person who can spare 200 to 300€ a month, how do you recommend I utilize Revolut?
Thanks a lot mate 👋 In your case I don't think Ultra makes sense then, either the free plan or Premium which I was also on for quite some time and has a great value for money 👌 Cheers
I would not recommend Revolut for that as you cant' transfer your shares to another broker later on. Have a look at Trading 212 or Interactive Brokers, I think much better options for buying stocks. Cheers
Hey mate! Super informative video about Revolut. I am a proud Metal holder myself and couldn’t be happier with the way Revolut has worked for me. I started with the free plan, went to premium, switched to metal and now considering Ultra plan; but not convinced however. Not because of its features, but because I think that Metal works more than fine for now. I also wanted to ask you if you know of someone that has been in the situation of using Revolut’s Insurance… I go on holiday in 3 days and I am confident that my Metal Insurance covers me just fine! Keep it up💪🏼
Hi Luka, thank you mate, appreciate that. I also think both Premium or Metal will be a better value for most people, especially now that it also includes partner benefits so if you don't need the lounge then not much difference as you can still use Revolut Pro and get 0.8% cashback which is not too shabby either. As for the insurance I never claimed anything nor know anyone who did, though I did have a look at their insurance provider website and looks all pretty straightforward 👌 Safe travels and happy holiday my friend ☀️👋
Hi you can run your own numbers, monthly spend * 1.2% cashback (if you use it with Pro) vs your monthly Ultra plan. For me it usually covers the monthly costs and the rest are benefits on top. But even if it does not cover, the benefits alone might be worth the money for you, if not, then maybe consider Premium or Metal 👌
@@foreversoprano Oh well I think they made it pretty clear on their pricing page. The higher the plan the more the benefits the higher the fees for it, seems fair 😉
@@SmartMoneywithKai then I don't understand the "upgrade through points" option. Who's gonna choose to spend 1200 points (equals $10k to accumulate them with the premium version for example) instead of just paying the monthly fee ($10)🤔

Hi and yes, I actually just made a video about it, you can check it out here th-cam.com/video/7MAJfcG8B7E/w-d-xo.html for me still makes perfect sense 👌
@@SmartMoneywithKai I've analyzed the new changes, it looks like it's much worse than cashback, just makes things unnecessarily complicated. Cash is simple and straight-forward, while the rules on how to use the points are cumbersome. To use them on stays you first need to have a high amount, then use half of the them to get to the same price as on Booking and just after that you have an actual discount. The nice thing with revolut is the time it saves you having everything in one app, but I don't see their clientele who values time more than anything, overthinking revpoints strategies, moving them to an airline just to realize you need to transfer them to an intermediary where you need another account and just then getting them to the airline where you actually need them.
That's an odd comparison to make as they are very different business models, one was a wild west crypto exchange run by a delusional guy with no transparency into his company, the other (Revolut) is a EU licensed bank that is profitable and does not create it's own currency to inflate it's books, unlike FTX, which was ultimately part of it's downfall 😉
