Most Op fans don’t really care about Sanji’s character development, Did you know the chapter where Sanji screams for Robin’s help when that chapter dropped the world came at Sanji, they made fun of him, mocking him like “ Zoro is on the rooftop fighting Kaido and Sanji being pathetic down here brah brah 😂 “ and Oda sent message to these fans through Robin
Fans : “ Sanji is pathetic and a laughing stock “
Robin : “ he is a very kind man “
Fans : “ Jinbe is better than him “
Robin : “ you don’t need to know what it means that Sanji relied upon me for Help
Robin : “ He is truly worthy of being the Wings of the King of the Pirates “
Like him or hate him but Sanji is definitely one of the best if not the best written character in One piece

I honestly can't understand how they can mock him or make fun of him for doing that. Do they not understand what that means for him? I'm so glad Robin (through Oda) stood up for Sanji. He is one of the best written characters for sure!!

Its mostly Zoro vs Sanji thing...that part of fandom has always been there but it has gotten too toxic these days

Shout out to Zeff for saving that poor boy. He didn't like kids, but he saw himself in Sanji and made it his business to unknowingly save a lost, hurt, child. He somehow raised a wonderful boy that should have grown up hating life, not even emotionless like his brothers, Sanji should be full of anger and hatred, but through it all he grew up feeling loved and accepted. Even when Sanji was ready to dedicate his life to Zeff, Zeff pushed him to follow his dreams and supported him from afar. It's like Zeff could see a kindred spirit that needed guidance and stepped up to the role, he wasn't perfect, but he clearly did a good job as a afather.

9:00 And the reason for him not ever laying his hands on a woman is Zeff. So not only was it him becoming more Germa, and less human, but also him drifting further away from his father, to add insult to injury.
EDIT: Ok, yes, his mother and sister also played a big role in it, but there's a flawless line from Zeff in WCI, where he tells Sanji that if he ever kicks a woman "I will cut your balls and slit my own throat [because] that's how a father owns to his son's mistakes". I can't begin to imagine the punch it has to have packed for Sanji to see Zeff calling himself his father, and to be willing to give his own life for Sanji's mistakes (even if the passionate drama was beautiful but a bit over-the-top here xD)

That is true, Zeff did play a major part in Sanji's development regarding women! Thank you for that!

23:10 Remember at Baratie, when he was yelling at Zoro to let go of his dream and his conviction to save his life? That it should be easy? He had let go of his dream at that point, and by the end of the arc he seems to have recovered it, yet he is willing to sacrifice it all over again at every turn. As for his conviction, we see him adamantly refusing to use his hands to fight, or to hit women, but those are convictions Zeff instilled into him: how his hands are solely for cooking, and again that wonderful line from Zeff about cutting Sanji's balls and slitting his own throat if he ever hit a woman. Now, for the first time, it's his own conviction the one at play: I don't want to be like them. I've been told I had to be like them, it would've been extremely convenient to have been like them, but I personally don't want to, that's my conviction. I'd rather be dead than go against that. Same way Luffy would die before denying someone their freedom. Same way Zoro would die before betraying his honor as a swordsman. What he witnessed back at the Baratie has finally come full circle. He he now back at ground level, now he can grow

The cover story in chapters 1035-1072 is titled: "Germa 66's Ahh... An Emotionless Excursion". There, you will see a flashback of the independent (not sectioned by the World Government) scientific organisation M.A.D.S.. It was funded by DuFelt, lead by Vegapunk and key members were Judge, Queen, Caesar and a mysterious woman.
That whole cover story was so good! I hope you read it.

Together with Luffy vs Katakuri, this is the fight with the best thematic narrative to it. And fights and moves are just spice for those who like battle shonen, except for Ifrit Janbe, the carries Sanji accepting his Germa side as well as prevailing over it(*), and Queen using all the Germa techniques making him fight against his own, they carry no meaning, they are just fireworks
(*) And on this I want to elaborate. Sanji came into the healthiest path forward. The more normal outcome would be to just deny it, sort of "I defeated the Germa in me, there's nothing of them left". But instead he uses it, his realization was not "I am not Germa" but "Yes, Germa is also a part of me, but that's not who I choose to be". He accepted reality as is (something most people nowadays cannot do). But he did not submit to it either, he made a choice. Choosing over your own dictated fate, and following that direction instead of the one (or the two, go for or go against) laid before you by others, and forging your own path through it on your own, even when you acknowledge those well-lit, paved roads exist while you cut through the thicket. Accepting who you are, and choosing who you want to be

    • @thefictionalscholar

Yes! He overcame so much in this fight and that acceptance and perseverance to not become what he hates but rather use it to protect is just beautiful. I love how you put it!

Best boy Sanji getting the spotlight he deserves. I've stopped reading the manga and have since become anime only and it's crazy knowing that you're about to be ahead of me come Thursday, having followed you through this for like half of a year haha.

Thanks for making this video 🙏
Even if you count out all the babies in the anime community who only care about power scaling, there are many people who don't really like/get Sanji.
The truth is that Oda-sensei may have overplayed Sanji's silliness in the arcs before Whole Cake Island, in order to make it have a greater impact. It may have backfired a bit, on the western audiences at least 😕
But, yes, the fight and it's symbolism is great! It definitely needs more love, same as our Sanji!
I generally feel that, unfortunately, most of the fights in Wano kind of overshadowed by the Gear Five reveal, at least in the minds of more casual readers/watchers, even though this was never Oda-sensei 's intention.
But well... What can we do? 😅

  • @evelynarhondi6375
    @evelynarhondi6375 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I love how this fight doesn't really have anything to do with how Sanji views Queen as an opponent. This is Sanji's personal internal struggle.
I love how it highlights Sanji's relationships with all the people close to him: his birth family, Zeff and his nakama.
I also love the short interaction with Zoro. Even in the heat of battle and with little to no information, these two have always understood eachother.
Tbh it was more plain to see in the anime, but Zoro's shocked face upon hearing Sanji's "favour" made me tear up. Not that it wasn't good in the manga, but I feel like the anime has always done a better job at conveying Zoro's subtle emotions.
In the end, Sanji proved Judge wrong once again. (Is it thrice now or more? I'm losing count 😅)
There was no need to experiment on his children to begin with. With love and guidance, they could have all been both strong fighters and accomplished individuals, just like Sanji.
Personally, towards the end of this fight, I was like: "Go, Sanji! Rob him blind and rub it on his face!!" Sanji (and his siblings) deserved the world! What a disappointment of a father...
On the note of Sanji's triumph, did you notice how his eyebrows change directions? It seems to happen when his "Germa genes" are activated. Just a heads-up in case we have any further development with this.

This is only in my head canon but I personally believe Diablo (devil) is stronger name than Iferit ( a fire spirit) but it has a personal meaning to me he believed that his flames came from his father so he thought from the devil but when he accepted his self and what he wanted utilizing the abilities he has strengthen and made his own and using what he hates what he got from his family he names it Inferit because now it's from himself his spirit so it's stronger

    • @thefictionalscholar
      @thefictionalscholar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I really love that head canon! That would make the moves more personal for Sanji and mean more to him.

2:22 Queen, same as Judge, and possibly Caesar, were part of MADS, an unsanctioned scientific research organization formed and led by Vegapunk. BTW, Vegapunk has been shown to dabble on at least one of the fields Judge, Queen and Caesar have expertise in. For Caesar, it's Devil Fruit replication, with Momo's fruit made by Vegapunk being far superior to his Smiles. With Judge it's cloning. He has an army of Storm Troopers, VP has an army of Kumas. With Queen it's robotics. Queen made himself into a cyborg, VP has modified every single Kuma clone, and the original, in a similar fashion, and they are all equipped with a copy of Kizaru's lasers
EDIT: What Queen did that surpasses BY FAR anything VP has done or will ever do, is properly researching how dinosaurs fought in the wild

    • @thefictionalscholar
