I'll be 62 this month, 6/26/59, and I just want to say thank you to RT for coming along in my life when I was just starting to appreciate the monster sounds you can get from a strat. He defines the power, presence and depth of tone one can summon from wood, steel and amplification with his fingertips. Add some Wahs, whoas and Wows and, simply put, you've got the real magic only he can summon. The stuff we all need to fill in those parts of our brains that insist on demanding performance, excitement pleasure and satisfaction all at once, so we can feel assured that we got what we wanted and more than what we expected, never letting us down every time we hear his playing. Amen!

Robin added a special style of blues, rock ,jazz and psychedelic roll to get his original tones and had to express it over the 50 year span he has played ! Without his attempt at music......it indeed would be a" Dull world"! His songs still jam all over the world on Radio ! I remember the radio station KZEW- " The Zoo" 98 FM Dallas/ Ft worth always jamming his songs early in the morning to get us all up and out of bed to go to school! And then of course come home and smoke a few bowls of good Columbian redbud ! Go trinity Trojans class of 1980 ..... Euless,Tx

I went to see Robin in a dinky bar in my hometown Middletown Ohio in the 80's and he did 2 sets and was absolutely fantastic. I have always loved him and his telling of the blues. Made me happy and sad at the same time. He was so flipping good. The place was packed and he was VERY well received. A nice guy too. Never got the appreciation he so richly deserves.

I saw Trower at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh PA. That’s where I also saw iron butterfly, traffic, the stones, Clapton, the doors..Yes I am old now, but one thing I can say, today’s kids missed it.. you missed the golden age of rock ‘n’ roll that is still popular today on the radio and record sales. We had Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Joe Cocker, Santana, canned heat, Crosby stills and Nash, spirit, blind faith, Derek and the dominoes, Fleetwood Mac, the band,Boston, ZZ Top, Jethro Tull, the Yardbirds, the kinks, jefferson airplane, Big brother and the holding company,The Moody blues, the rolling stones, the guess who, cream, the grateful dead,, Bob Dylan, The best live guitar player I ever saw, Alvin Lee, Big brother and the holding company, the Doobie brothers, iggie pop,Chicago, yes, Pink Floyd, The Guess Who,the who,Peter Frampton, AC DC, Creedence Clearwater, the byrds, The Allman brothers, vanilla fudge, Steve Miller band,All of these bands had real musicians, and no two sounded alike..
yes, the current generation missed it....What do they have today? Synthesized music & Taylor Swift... They are all made of ticky-tacky and they all sound the same.
I think just about everyone born before 1999 would agree that the past is far brighter than the present and the future !
people born after 1999, you missed it !

You never mentioned Stevie Ray Vaughn. Ya, it wasn't from the hippy generation but he could play as good as the best of them. Saw him at Soldiers and Sailors, then at Heinz Hall.

Robin Hendrix or Jimi Trower, -makes zero difference at that point.
They knew one another and were good mates, they both clearly inspired one another, no doubt about it.

Robin shared a few tricks with Jimi about atmospheric dynamics and Jimi returned the favor by sharing, the higher pass chord sweeps. ....guaranteed!

As much as I like the likes of Satriani and Vai and Nuno and the Malmsteen in certain doses, can you honestly imagine putting Robin, Jimi, Gary and Stevie on the same stage just once instead, I know the present 4 would just faint.

They all stand alone....I come from mostly the latter group named...although I like them all- me being a guitar player of course....Trower being my main influence.

The trouble with Malmsteen and Vai etc is most of the 'playing' is electronic technology and sounds more like a musical typewriter than guitar playing from the soul.

I think I understand why Eric Clapton hasn’t asked Robin Trower to join him on stage . It would be to embarrassing for Eric.

    • @Leo-uc8zv

I agreed. But if Eric would’ve stuck to playing raw and hard blues it wouldn’t be. He was just as good as robin in cream or D&D

Trower alway's had the ability to use "in between" notes,.... that were not major or minor,... and was always bending up or down to the pitch he wanted,... don't know any other guitar player that could do it as well as him,.... him and Dewar and Billy Lorden were the best,... drummer Reg Isdore,... had the tightest snare drum shots,.... in the early years on the "Bridge Of Sighs" album......... ya need to listen to some of his new stuff....."United State Of Mind".......those guys have truely got it goin' on,..... nobody else could ever begin to sound like that,.... they all just seem to get better with age,....... turn it up...........
