Took the words right out of my mouth always thought this. Beautiful song very underrated. And Debbie looked particularly stunning in 89. I watch this clip and I'm mesmerised.

When I listen to this song, my heart feels sad and my chest feels painful. I don't think there is anything other than Debbie that has this expressive power that reminds me of the magnificent earth.

Word was Jimmy Saville’s mum was seated behind the vulnerable behind of the compere and unsurprisingly, just couldn’t keep her hands to herself…

She would have to compete with Madona at this point. Not with this song.
I always hoped she would make a huge comeback but I guess the drugs took a toll on the creative side of her and Chris.

You gotta remember Chris got sick with a rare disease and they were not in the limelight at all during that time. And that lasted years. Plus, when Debbie came back as a solo artist, she did have a couple of hits, including 'French Kissing In the USA' and 'I Want that Man'. Sure they've had their ups and downs. But they still tour (now, of course, as Blondie). As a matter of fact, they are touring together with the group Garbage this year. She may not be Madonna but she certainly isn't forgotten. Some would argue that Madonna has been forgotten in a way, since none of her last few albums have had a hit on billboard charts in years except on the dance charts. Although, I admit that one problem with both is the lack of airplay for any woman past like 35, which is ridiculous when you think of some of the great songs they've put out over the years. It's really not fair that, just because you age and are no longer young, that you should just be forgotten about. Both are still talented but I just don't think women get treated as fairly as they should because of age. And you're right, Madonna has had some great tunes but I just have to buy her albums because her songs, for the most part, get no airplay. So I don't think it's because of drugs on Blondie's part. It's just harder to get publicity now if you are past a certain age.
It makes me wonder what will happen to Taylor Swift one day. We'll just have to see.
On another note, Deborah Harry was a huge influence on Madonna before she became famous. Madonna is quoted as having said she thought Debra was 'the coolest woman in the universe.' Debra heard about this and she was flattered and she joked: 'It's nice but a check would be better.' Lol.😉😂

I don't think that was possible Deborah Harry and Chris Stein are artists first whereas Madonna is first and foremost a canny businesswomen who as bonus has a knack for catchy tunes.

I dont think she needed to compete with Madonna, just with Plastic Letters we got better music than all of Madonna's life work.

@@AndgaChannel2 distinct classes between Madge and DibDeb….Madge is her own wonder…to me anyway, the Queen of Pop and Dance….Madge is probably the most remixed artist in the world… actually let me go check Perplexity about that
