Good video, that 8 year prime stat comparison is eye opening. Good job man. Stockton is the greatest, he was so clutching too, hit a lot of game winning buzzer beaters, including against the Bulls and Jordan.
He still is. Most people who think they know basketball or only watch post 2000s still are quick to put him around #5 as all time pg's. Its really sad.
I think it's silly to say his disrespected, as some of the comments might. People often argue he's better than Isiah, Frazier, and Kidd. Still, top 5, I disagree with video, moderately.
And those kind of people aren't majority. So he really comes as underrated. For anyone who doubts his greatness, there's always many of the greatest players ever and their opinion on Stockton. Beside I. Thomas :D, not many of them don't put him as the greatest point guard ever.
I've watched John Stockton for years. One thing I noticed is that his passes aren't just on target, but he passes to the absolute best place where his teammate can make a play. He never made his teammate bend too much, reach too much, or go off balance. Every pass was exactly where it was needed to be used. That, to me, is the most useful part of a point guard. Steve Nash came closest to that skill. Then Magic Johnson.
5:37 He's especially disrespected whenever Isiah's in the conversation. Stockton fans would point out his All-NBA selections, PER, assists titles, steals titles, etc... while Isiah fans would mention the championships, Finals MVP, 40+ point performances against the Jazz, Karl Malone being a great scorer for those assists, etc...
He’s underrated For most of his career he was the second best player on a small market playoff contender Still he had made the most of his career He played all 82 games in 16 of his 19 seasons with Utah He had the most assists in a season his first season as a starting point guard He also has the most assists and steals in league history He was also one of the original players on the 92 Dream Team 🇺🇸 that took home the Olympic gold medal 🥇
Charon58 He was the anchor of that team for sure. Not to mention, his ability to play the passing lanes, afforded Sloan the ability to stack the paint. Which he routinely did. Hence why Utah was a monster on the glass.
I played PG through highschool, Stockton was simply It, the Guy, the standard. reading This hatred amazes me, I bet these guys never played ball in their lives, only video games. He is the definition of a PG, and on today's Game we would see more scoring from this beast. All timer
A player with the greatest anticipation while playing under control at the same time which enabled him to excel as a complete player and set unbreakable records.
John Stockton is the greatest point-guard ever. And I would say the greatest basketball player ever pound-for-pound. He was a David among tons of Goliaths. And anyone who never gives up is the best ever and that's what makes anyone great, including Stockton, is getting back up when you get knocked down.
He literally played against Giants!!! I also believe he played against tougher players and they have today.. there were better players back then they are today..
He is not the greatest PG ever. He isn’t even top 3-4 PGs ever. Stockton literally has more first round exits, than he has conference finals appearances. Not trying to discredit Stockton, but he is not the player you are all claiming him to be. The offense ran in Utah, was predicated on a pass first point guard running pick and roll. His assists numbers are bound to be high, if their offense revolves around him throwing passes of the P&R to Malone.
Always enjoyed watching Stockton play, selfless, team-focused, tough as nails, great awareness... Personally, he'd be my first pick for the 1 spot...always
I've been thinking bout him and how good he was too, I'm glad you made this video. The brotha deserve a lot more respect for his game on and off the court.
I'm really enjoying your channels. Thanks for making this great video on John Stockton. I have a lot of respect for you to recognize true greatness where others can't see it.
1. He was on the Dream Team. The famous clip from the documentary where a fan in a Dream Team t-shirt starts talking to Stockton and not even realizing she's standing next to one of the players shows the discrepancy between casual fans and the players themselves. The guys he played with all know how great he was. th-cam.com/video/6iBhNppSBeE/w-d-xo.html 2. Gary Payton, a great defender, says Stockton was harder to guard than Jordan. th-cam.com/video/LJCwyh0fDGw/w-d-xo.html There are plenty of player interviews on TH-cam where other great players laud Stockton's play. He had and has the respect of his peers, and he knows how great he was and how hard he worked. 3. John Stockton is the real honey badger: John Stockton don't care. He is the ultimate old-school cool, Steve McQueen of the NBA. It's enough for him, which makes him even cooler. Nothing wrong with pointing this out to the young fans now, but you'll have to be like Stockton himself: don't expect any reward for it.
Back in the 90's,watching NBA games on the tv gives a die hard fan small option to see a replay except when he gets to the top 10 plays of the week.I would be always disappointed to not find him there.Gladly the dvds came in the 20s but still his recorded plays were rare.Only in 2015 that i heard in the internet of the praises he gets from his colleagues. If you are looking for executions of pick and roll and you have players who are not as tall as your opponents, get a hold of his games and enjoy how he turns the Jazz into one of the greatest teams in the NBA.
You know, I used to hate Stockton for the longest time since I grew up as a Bulls fan and disliked the fundamental, "boring" kind of game the Jazz played. But when looking at his stats and what he did with what I consider a low quality supporting cast (minus Malone), it's pretty impressive. I'd even go so far as to put Stockton on my all-time starting 5/best pg of all-time too. Great shot, best passer and stealer by a long shot, and super tough by all accounts. You can't go wrong with a superbly well-rounded game like that, even if it's not flashy or whatever.
Stockton is one of the reason that made MJ what he was. The grit and defensive challenge he gave Jordan was a drive that pushed flight23 to his greatness...and them with it
Raised and living here in SLC. As a kid in the ‘80s, I loved going to the Jazz games, especially when Chicago came to town. Grew up a huge fan of MJ and Scottie, but by the time I got into high school, I was so ready to see my hometown team be the first to sink the Bulls in the finals. Unfortunately, it never happened. That ‘97 Jazz team was astounding. Stockton’s talent, toughness, and intellect are unrivaled. He’d be my first pick for all-time best PG any day, no question. Great video and tribute to one of the greatest b-ball players of all time. Just for kicks, look up the Dream Team games where he plays alongside Bird, Mullen, Magic, etc. Some of the finest passing I’ve ever seen.
And I always thought that Stockton was the real leader of the Jazz those years, not Malone... The Media always focuses on Karl Malone, don't get me wrong he is actually one of the best power forwards who played in the NBA, but he didn't have the assassin instinct that Stockton had it... That's why I consider him as not just the leader of the Jazz those years, but also one of the best point guards and the pure point guard you can watch and have the pleasure that played this game.
Stockton was so good man and some people think that Stockton could not play in this league today please he shot 51 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3 back then a guy who could shot like that today plus his court vision passing ability mastering the pick and roll and he was tough too and would play through i juries as well and still give you the business has no idea
You are my favorite nba you tube guy of all time if you start by saying john stockton is your favorite point guard of all time. Good job, mate! From Utah
I liked his style. No trash talk, didn't get phased by it either. One of the most durable players ever. He didn't seem to be as flashy as Nash, but he had more accuracy with his passes. He was a great defender. Perhaps the only complaint was his lack of 3 point shooting. I wished I could have watched him play. I think part of the reason he isn't talked about as much is because he's quiet. I don't see him in the news like I do Kobe or all these other retired players.
The time Steve Nash had back to back MVP seasons. John Stockton had better stats across the board including shooting percentage, assist, steals, points in 8-9 straight seasons. John Stockton doesn't get his credit because he was in the same draft as Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan was the face of the League, rightfully so. The NBA was at an all time lowest ratings before Jordan came in. They was trying to go international and they knew Advertising Michael Jordan was the only way they could do that... And it worked.
Easily the greatest point guard to every play the game. Smart, durable and just fantastic in every way. Great video. Thanks for recognizing this truth.
You are a very intelligent young man Stockton is my favorite point guard and if he had more great players around him he would have definitely won championships.
I think Malone, as good as he was, was the achilles heel with the Jazz team. Malone can score and give you numbers, yes, but in a championship game every team has that player. The problem with Malone is he is not a clutch player, when the chips are down he can not rise up to the occasion...... basically he's a choker and doesn't have the nerves or killer instinct to set that dagger into the hearts of the opponents. Malone is a great player, but I wouldn't want him as my #1 player if I'm playing for a championship.
I 100% agree that John Stockton is the greatest pg of all time, I've said this since 95', and being from Houston, I considered him a legend well before he ended our season in 98'! Magic was great, but even Wilt Chamberlain picked Stockton over magic lol I think the 84' draft was the greatest ever because it had a top 5 player at pg, SG, pf, and center!

made playoffs all 19 seasons he played. in 16 of those seasons he played all 82 games. His consistency, iron man toughness, focus, decision making and IQ 2nd to none. He is THE prototype PG.
Yep John Stockton was definitely underrated but had skills undeniable. I believe he was over looked at times because he was low key and just went on about his business like a blue collar worker. Him and Malone had the hardest pick and roll to defend. If him and Malone had a better supporting cast as the other greats did they could had a couple of championships.
Gotta give respect to Stockton & Malone for their consistency and longevity. They're really compatible to Mike and Scottie on the collective consistency. Unfortunately, the ring or no ring issue will follow Stockton. And that's bullshit. That's why videos like this helps. I can't say he's the best though. I think that could be Zeke aka Isiah potentially. But, he gets that for leading his team to back to back titles. Along with his winning at every level going back to St. Joe. But Stockton does and should in the top PG category of all time!
John Stockton definitely is disrespected by some fans, and dumb sportswriters. But he's well respected by the guys who played against him. Great video!
In my opinion, John Stockton is the best point guard ever! Magic is second. Best shooting guard is Michael Jordan. Kobe is second. Best small forward is Larry Bird. Pippen is second. Best power forward is Tim Duncan. Charles Barkley is second. Best center is Hakeem Olajuwon. Kareem is second.

I'd put Stockton at #3 all time behind Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson.
I think it's silly to say his disrespected, as some of the comments might. People often argue he's better than Isiah, Frazier, and Kidd. Still, top 5, I disagree with video, moderately.
@@joshuashamai2876 He's #4 to me: Magic, Robertson, Isiah, Stockton.
And those kind of people aren't majority. So he really comes as underrated. For anyone who doubts his greatness, there's always many of the greatest players ever and their opinion on Stockton. Beside I. Thomas :D, not many of them don't put him as the greatest point guard ever.
Love this Clip Bro! John was a savage! And one of the hardest workers in the NBA.
I wouldn't even look Nash's way if Stockton was on the table
5:37 He's especially disrespected whenever Isiah's in the conversation. Stockton fans would point out his All-NBA selections, PER, assists titles, steals titles, etc... while Isiah fans would mention the championships, Finals MVP, 40+ point performances against the Jazz, Karl Malone being a great scorer for those assists, etc...
Yep yep, but the 40 that stood out the most to me is the night Malone dropped 40 on Isiahs face..with that beautiful elbow drop. 40 stitches
He’s underrated
For most of his career he was the second best player on a small market playoff contender
Still he had made the most of his career
He played all 82 games in 16 of his 19 seasons with Utah
He had the most assists in a season his first season as a starting point guard
He also has the most assists and steals in league history
He was also one of the original players on the 92 Dream Team 🇺🇸 that took home the Olympic gold medal 🥇
I would argue that he was never the second best player on that team. Malone needed him more than he needed Malone.
Charon58 He was the anchor of that team for sure. Not to mention, his ability to play the passing lanes, afforded Sloan the ability to stack the paint. Which he routinely did. Hence why Utah was a monster on the glass.
If numbers matter, assists and steals, then Stockton is the GOAT.
One thing you don't want to sleep on: in the first half of his career, he was quiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick
He was always quick. Had a deadly first step.
I played PG through highschool, Stockton was simply It, the Guy, the standard. reading This hatred amazes me, I bet these guys never played ball in their lives, only video games. He is the definition of a PG, and on today's Game we would see more scoring from this beast. All timer
Absolutely my favorite player of all time
John Stockton. The Einstein of basketball. "He was playing chess while the others were playing checkers." That quote says it all.
A player with the greatest anticipation while playing under control at the same time which enabled him to excel as a complete player and set unbreakable records.
When you go up against john stockton, its not 1v1, its you vs the entire utah jazz
Well put, well said, will pass your channel info to some who appreciate real talk, thank you!
@@gotonamelastname9517 100% agree!
@@twistifyyy you know nothing about basketball then if you don't think Stockton is top five for point guards
@@twistifyyy you can't name anyone better. Trying to tear Stockton down because he ran the offense better than anyone? That's just dumb.
Always enjoyed watching Stockton play, selfless, team-focused, tough as nails, great awareness... Personally, he'd be my first pick for the 1 spot...always
John Wooden's favorite player and the greatest point guard of all time. 'Nuf said.
Let me tell you how underrated he is. One year later only 58000 views on this popular channel!
1. He was on the Dream Team. The famous clip from the documentary where a fan in a Dream Team t-shirt starts talking to Stockton and not even realizing she's standing next to one of the players shows the discrepancy between casual fans and the players themselves. The guys he played with all know how great he was. th-cam.com/video/6iBhNppSBeE/w-d-xo.html
Nothing wrong with pointing this out to the young fans now, but you'll have to be like Stockton himself: don't expect any reward for it.
thank you for spitting mad facts right here people always argue he does not have a championship like bruh that does not always matter
John Stockton is the all-time leader in points accounted for (points + points from assists) in NBA history, almost 2,000 ahead of Kareem
Anyone who really knows basketball does not UNDERESTIMATE Stockton
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Says hes a huge fan of MJ and SP but rooted against them in the finals. I think you have no fucking clue what a huge fan is
next time I have an argument about a guard 1 I share this
Thanx
And I always thought that Stockton was the real leader of the Jazz those years, not Malone... The Media always focuses on Karl Malone, don't get me wrong he is actually one of the best power forwards who played in the NBA, but he didn't have the assassin instinct that Stockton had it... That's why I consider him as not just the leader of the Jazz those years, but also one of the best point guards and the pure point guard you can watch and have the pleasure that played this game.
I’m a Bulls fan and I’ll be the first to admit that John Stockton is an all-time great.
Jeff Hornacek was his stunt double
😂😂😂😂
My All Time Team is...
C - Hakeem
PF - Duncan
SF - Bird
PG - Stockton
SG - Jordan
that is my exact all-time starting 5
Stockton was so good man and some people think that Stockton could not play in this league today please he shot 51 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3 back then a guy who could shot like that today plus his court vision passing ability mastering the pick and roll and he was tough too and would play through i juries as well and still give you the business has no idea
You are my favorite nba you tube guy of all time if you start by saying john stockton is your favorite point guard of all time. Good job, mate! From Utah
This is the best video on youtube. Fact.
All time leader in assists and steals. There’s not a close second.
Easily the greatest point guard to every play the game. Smart, durable and just fantastic in every way.
Great video. Thanks for recognizing this truth.
That Stockton to malone for the all-time assists really brings backs some memories
You are a very intelligent young man
Stockton is my favorite point guard and if he had more great players around him he would have definitely won championships.
John Stockton and Tim Duncan are my favorite players ever.
It was so much fun watching that Jazz team!
Stockton fulfilled the true role of point guard
best episode so far. another level :] although a bit to short.
That record will never be broken
Humble greatness can sometimes be hard to spot & remember.
When brain and basketball match in one single guy.
Stockton to Malone. I heard that phrase so many times and it never got old.
Over Isaiah???!!
@@rawdogmaterial365 most definitely
@@armandodelossantos736 that's not reasonable at all....he couldn't go left... He couldn't elevate his team to win a title... He wasn't even the best player on his team
@@rawdogmaterial365 Whaaaaat? Stockton was definitely the best player on his team and he could go left with no problems! Who told you he couldn't go left? That's crazy talk. If you're comparing him to Isiah, than you have to compare teams and competition!
@@rawdogmaterial365 Isiah had 3 other players that could run the point and they often did. He even had a guy coming off the bench that could run point! Stockton is the most pure pg to ever live and with a better defensive team, he would've won at least 1 ring
brah, you make some ridiculously good videos.
My Favorite player and of course point guard! Kids this is how you play the point position. Try to make the best decision for your TEAM to put them ahead.
A Duo like Stockton and Karl Malone may never be seen again because it takes selfless esp that in this day and age is sadly rare. Thank God I was alive when they performed their magic.
The Mailman didn't Deliver on Sundays
Great video...he was the best.
Great video! I feel like you had some fresh takes compared to other TH-camrs.
made playoffs all 19 seasons he played. in 16 of those seasons he played all 82 games. His consistency, iron man toughness, focus, decision making and IQ 2nd to none. He is THE prototype PG.
In this 'I shoot' mentality of modern NBA, John Stockton's assist record may not broken, MAY NOT be broken.
You need to do hey Kevin Johnson, and Derek Harper video!
Yeah, KJ was something special...
Stockton is the ebst PG ever cause he is (was) in nba jam. That's it!
He's heating up, he's on fire!
The programmer of NBA was suppose to release the version with Jordan in it.
Stockton was absolutely the best and most amazing true PG to ever run the game on an NBA court!!
Hes the best man that guy bleed basketball. Him and magic are the best pgs
Grind , grind, excellence. John stockton.

keep making videos Dude, i love them
In my opinion, John Stockton is the best point guard ever!
Best center is Shaq, I can't think of anyone more dominant then him
