That is a super sexy build, not many builds that have a custom battery for fs bikes, that is the type of casing I need to hide my em3ev battery instead of the triangle bag
@@CoolWatts Its ideal for me, 52v and 20ah gives me plenty of range, just need to come up with a case shell to hold the battery in place so i can bin the triangle bag, sticks out to much and zips are not ideal given the on and off button. Admire those skills you have for making your own custom bits for the battery.

I've read of a few people having issues bending/breaking the rear frame due to higher torque numbers.. Thanks for your message. So far, no problems with either of my DS Canyon builds. But I always ease into the throttle gradually, keeping in mind these bikes were designed for human power.

Brilliant fabrication of your battery in particular. I choose hardtails for my BBSHD builds to allow for larger frame triangle for more battery capacity. To me, having the additional complexity and weight and compromise to packaging of a rear shock isn't worth it. The biggest hole in the DIY aftermarket ebike industry is...lack of dual suspension bicycle frames which offer enough frame triangle space for a minimum 30 amp-hr battery build. I would like to see how you built your earlier battery box before the current one. I am currently sewing a bag to hold mine and don't have access to a large 3d printer.

@@ChapuzasconRober thanks. Having a 9 or 10 speed cassette makes it less of an issue; you'll still have wide gear ratios. I believe mine came with the middle gearing (38?), and I only use 3,4 and 5 on the cassette.
Wait, what did Bafang do to the high performance community? Is it about the newer firmware that's locked at 28A? I thought I saw another firmware one could flash on Endless Sphere. Also, wouldn't using an ASI BAC855 controller bypass the firmware issue and offer even more performance? (Or am I misunderstanding something?) Thanks!

Hi i'm concedering the x1 gen4 for the canyon strive carbon 2021 xl for the alps (20%) and the netherlands 80% (so mostly flat) do you think this is a good plan? and if so is 52v enough or better 72v? want to use it for "downhilling" in the alps and simple trail riding in the netherlands, and what do you advice on the throthle the thumb or half twist dont know if full twist will work nice in the alps

Hi. Thanks for taking us through your build. Very interesting. I currently have Bafang Ultra on a Chinese Dengfu e22 frame. Which I use for eMTB trail/enduro type use. Jumps, rocks, mountains, chunky terrain etc. Never ridden on pavement hahaha I love the bike. Have had alot of drivetrain/cassete wear problems and eventually had to move to an IGH. But otherwise the bike has been bullet proof. Even with some hard crashes etc. At first the power was killer, but with use I am starting to crave more. So im thinking of building up something similar, but with more of an eMTB/off road emphasis. I still want to keep the bike somewhat MTB focussed. This is a really good inspiration and has definitely got me thinking about it again
Get the x6 controller or wait for x12. I had 2gen with bac2000, and now i have 3gen with x6 and it ramps up a lot faster and the power delivery feels more instantaneously, but im not so sure if they are any reliable, mine kit saddly died after a week, and im waiting for a new one.

Very nice build! But saying mt7 is the brembo carbon ceramics brake of the bike world…well… not even close😉 look for hope v4 with steelflex brake lines. Those are better than mt7 by a lot. Though a very very nice bike✌️😎
"Nope, I ride intelligently" That feels like a bit of a dig to the rest of us bro, A lot of mid drive owners have toasted rear hubs while trying to ride intelligently, I think the quality of the hub to begin with has a lot do with it's chances of survival. An Industry Nine Hydra hub is going to survive much longer than say... a stock Walmart bike hub.
Didn't mean that others don't. Point I was trying to make is that any high-powered mid drive needs to be used with extreme mechanical sympathy, as the bike drivetrain was designed for 500w, not 5000! The metal cassette helps, as does the metal freehub ratchet (which I still have yet to install).
Just finished watching it all, love how much detail you went into on every choice you made! I did have two main questions first have you heard of the LightningRods mid-drive kits? And when comparing the power to a 72v bbshd did you test both at the same power to compare, like the bbshd at 65A? Because you mention it the cyc feels like your 72v bbshd +25% but you are running over 60% more power than it. Curious how the both would feel and compare at the same power. I currently have a bbshd with a aftermarket controller but only on 52V, hoping to make the move to 72V by the end of the year!
Thanks! No, used my 72v BBSHD at 40A max, due to the nylon gear. I've gone 7 years on the original nylon gears in my builds. Yes, I thought exactly the same thing, expecting to feel a bigger power increase in the 72v X1. Nope, for me, as I mentioned it felt like about maybe 25% more. Maybe others who've used both can chime in. I've heard of the lightningrods years ago, but never used one. 72v on the BBS really makes a huge improvement. @@CoolWatts I currently still have the nylon on my bbshd been a year and been good at 65A, I play to run the same amps on 72v and if the nylon gets destroyed I will buy a High Voltage peek gear. Interesting that does make me very curious on the difference at the same power. The lightningRods stuff seems pretty cool to me, like a bigger cyc pro but without the PAS. If I burn out my bbshd I play to move to his "big block" single stage mid drive with the belt deduction. I will read into your postings, I mostly hang around endless-sphere or the High voltage discord so I don't believe I have read them before
@@CoolWatts Hi Slava. Nice build. I also have Cyc X1 gen2 with bac2000 in UA. As I can see, your acceleration is too slow for X1 5K watts, I guess you are on stock settings from Cyc. You need to raise Current Regulator Ki to 30-35, Current Regulator Kp need to be at 0.5-1, depends on linearity of your motor operation, default is 0.5. The settings are under Legacy Configuration of Motor Enable Commands of Asi Bacdoor app. Of course your basic power settings must be adequate for this mod to work. Btw, have you tried to use Trampaboard VESC 100/250 controller or any other 100/250 VESC based design controller? I'm aware Cyc's X6, X12 are VESC based also, but reliability with their in-house controllers still sucks. Regarding your motor temp. 45C the highest, you need to check if your real motor temp. corresponds to app readings. As I know Cyc provides the settings file with some degraded temp. readings, you need to ask them for settings with real temp. readings. My motor after replacement due to overheating problem now used to have not more than 65C in summer. With the first settings file from Cyc my motor temp. won't raise more than 30C)). Did you have any issues with sprag clutch in a gearbox (motor won't engage and spins freewheeling)? Many people say the sprag clutch Cyc used to equip the motor (it says NSK, but in fact Chinese counterfeit) won't last long with high power use. Quality german made 100-120EUR sprag clutch lasts 6 months+ with hard use compared to Chinese $4-6 fake. Cheers.
@@CoolWatts I don't understand. The m615 still has yellow blue and green phase wires where you can connect your controller to and bafangs battery only connects to the stock controller. The hall sensor board is the same as bbshd.
@@HardcoreHokageI think he might be tripping, I have a new Bbshd and decided to open the controller since I’m planning a HV kit 72v upgrade in a few months, it’s still the same 3 phase wires and they can really lock you from using different batteries since it’s just positive and negative wires🤔
@@kimhyunwoo8983 might be battery lock through the can bus to the stock controller but if you're going for hv and high power you remove the stock controller anyway. The mods are all the same. BTW if your going for high power replace the nylon gear for a steel one.
nice build bud ! but the 5,5 KW is a bit clickbait^^ this bike peaks around 2300 W as we see in the display :) for that power u will need at least 5 of the 40T in Parallel
Well assuming he ran at a continuous rating. Then he would be running at 72v 80 amps aka 5.7kw. The controller can handle way more… now the motor idk I’ve heard cyc does a horrible job when it comes to the thermals and don’t have any protocols built into the system for thermal throttling, so it often causes the motor’s magnets to fall out of place or for people to just basically melt the motor without knowing.

According to Peak Torque channel pressure tests QR axles result in less frame flex due to higher pressure.

It looks powerful but it strikes me that it wont have much range with 3 x 4Ah batteries? Could do with another in parallel ideally, or another 2.

Very nice build! But saying mt7 is the brembo carbon ceramics brake of the bike world…well… not even close😉 look for hope v4 with steelflex brake lines. Those are better than mt7 by a lot. Though a very very nice bike✌️😎

"Nope, I ride intelligently" That feels like a bit of a dig to the rest of us bro, A lot of mid drive owners have toasted rear hubs while trying to ride intelligently, I think the quality of the hub to begin with has a lot do with it's chances of survival. An Industry Nine Hydra hub is going to survive much longer than say... a stock Walmart bike hub.
Didn't mean that others don't. Point I was trying to make is that any high-powered mid drive needs to be used with extreme mechanical sympathy, as the bike drivetrain was designed for 500w, not 5000! The metal cassette helps, as does the metal freehub ratchet (which I still have yet to install).
Just finished watching it all, love how much detail you went into on every choice you made! I did have two main questions first have you heard of the LightningRods mid-drive kits? And when comparing the power to a 72v bbshd did you test both at the same power to compare, like the bbshd at 65A? Because you mention it the cyc feels like your 72v bbshd +25% but you are running over 60% more power than it. Curious how the both would feel and compare at the same power. I currently have a bbshd with a aftermarket controller but only on 52V, hoping to make the move to 72V by the end of the year!
Thanks! No, used my 72v BBSHD at 40A max, due to the nylon gear. I've gone 7 years on the original nylon gears in my builds. Yes, I thought exactly the same thing, expecting to feel a bigger power increase in the 72v X1. Nope, for me, as I mentioned it felt like about maybe 25% more. Maybe others who've used both can chime in. I've heard of the lightningrods years ago, but never used one.
72v on the BBS really makes a huge improvement. You can read some of my build articles about this on electricbike.com.
@@CoolWatts I currently still have the nylon on my bbshd been a year and been good at 65A, I play to run the same amps on 72v and if the nylon gets destroyed I will buy a High Voltage peek gear. Interesting that does make me very curious on the difference at the same power. The lightningRods stuff seems pretty cool to me, like a bigger cyc pro but without the PAS. If I burn out my bbshd I play to move to his "big block" single stage mid drive with the belt deduction. I will read into your postings, I mostly hang around endless-sphere or the High voltage discord so I don't believe I have read them before
@@CoolWatts Hi Slava. Nice build. I also have Cyc X1 gen2 with bac2000 in UA. As I can see, your acceleration is too slow for X1 5K watts, I guess you are on stock settings from Cyc. You need to raise Current Regulator Ki to 30-35, Current Regulator Kp need to be at 0.5-1, depends on linearity of your motor operation, default is 0.5. The settings are under Legacy Configuration of Motor Enable Commands of Asi Bacdoor app. Of course your basic power settings must be adequate for this mod to work.
Btw, have you tried to use Trampaboard VESC 100/250 controller or any other 100/250 VESC based design controller? I'm aware Cyc's X6, X12 are VESC based also, but reliability with their in-house controllers still sucks. Regarding your motor temp. 45C the highest, you need to check if your real motor temp. corresponds to app readings. As I know Cyc provides the settings file with some degraded temp. readings, you need to ask them for settings with real temp. readings. My motor after replacement due to overheating problem now used to have not more than 65C in summer. With the first settings file from Cyc my motor temp. won't raise more than 30C)).
Did you have any issues with sprag clutch in a gearbox (motor won't engage and spins freewheeling)? Many people say the sprag clutch Cyc used to equip the motor (it says NSK, but in fact Chinese counterfeit) won't last long with high power use. Quality german made 100-120EUR sprag clutch lasts 6 months+ with hard use compared to Chinese $4-6 fake.

AFAIK, locked the new version of the BBSHD so it can no longer be upgraded with an aftermarket controller, and must be used with their crappy battery.
@@CoolWatts I don't understand. The m615 still has yellow blue and green phase wires where you can connect your controller to and bafangs battery only connects to the stock controller. The hall sensor board is the same as bbshd.
@@HardcoreHokageI think he might be tripping, I have a new Bbshd and decided to open the controller since I’m planning a HV kit 72v upgrade in a few months, it’s still the same 3 phase wires and they can really lock you from using different batteries since it’s just positive and negative wires🤔
@@kimhyunwoo8983 might be battery lock through the can bus to the stock controller but if you're going for hv and high power you remove the stock controller anyway. The mods are all the same.
BTW if your going for high power replace the nylon gear for a steel one.

nice build bud ! but the 5,5 KW is a bit clickbait^^ this bike peaks around 2300 W as we see in the display :) for that power u will need at least 5 of the 40T in Parallel
The pack I built is capable of 105A max, at 80v that's over 8kW. I've seen 5000w peaks on the display.
It's easy to check with BMS amps and battery voltage readings. This motor peaks to 7KW with Nucular controller
Well assuming he ran at a continuous rating. Then he would be running at 72v 80 amps aka 5.7kw. The controller can handle way more… now the motor idk I’ve heard cyc does a horrible job when it comes to the thermals and don’t have any protocols built into the system for thermal throttling, so it often causes the motor’s magnets to fall out of place or for people to just basically melt the motor without knowing.

The BBSHD, at 72v, is awesome. See my video from 2017. Bafang as a company, with the current direction they've taken snubbing the enthusiast market and locking their products, I will never again support.
