Great tribute. In 2008 Nik Turner travelled all the way from Wales to London to visit my Dad who was in a hospice with cancer. He didn't know my Dad but came all that way. He played Flute and comforted my dad who was in a really bad way that particular day. It's no exaggeration to say that Nik kept my Dad alive for a bit longer. So for that Nik will always have a special place in my heart R.I.P.

So sad. In my opinion, Nik was the secret weapon of Hawkwind on the classic 70’s albums. His playing and songwriting contributions elevated Hawkwind from being a good British space rock band into an exceptional, groundbreaking musical act. RIP Nik.

Master of the universe is 1 of my all time favourite songs Niks vocals really make that song "spacey". I went the Hawkestra reunion concert. Allowing Sam Fox to sing with Nik ruined it and was disrespectful to him.

This is so sad….fond memory….I was lucky to spend an hour with Nik over a drink at Annie’s nightclub in Wokingham in 1981.. we chatted about Hawkwind and ICU and Sphinx….we got chatting about his experience playing his flute inside the great pyramid in Egypt when recording Xitintiday…he rushed out to his van….leaving me think what’s gone on….he came back with a tape for me called Nikpryaflutamid……Nik playing inside that Pyramid…..what a gent, he was interested in my story too….such a humble zany larger than life….what a nice guy..bet he will be jamming along with Robert Calvert and Daevid Allen now……yeah very sad…..respect to you Nik….

I spent the winter of 1992-3 in South Goa with Nik and each evening we would cycle to the beach and he would play his flute as the sun set, he would then play his Sax to some backing tracks on his cassette player in a nearby restaurant. He loved the music of Miles Davis and So What was a favourite of his. He once told me that he played Hawkwind songs as his day job but his favourite music was always jazz especially music like Bitches Brew. Will miss his down to earth friendliness.

Hello; back in about 1974 or 75, I saw Hawkwind, including Lemmy Kilmeister, Dave Brock, Stacia Blake doing her mostly nude performance art/dance, Nik Turner on saxes, flute, etc. Stacia is now an artist. This venue was in a typical old theatre, so it was cozy & audience & band artists were really close. Incredible show, of a great, favourite band,

Very sad news. Too many people gone this year. Loved NiK, ICU, All Stars & the Hawks. Saw him many times especially in the 1980's. Not everybody's cup of tea, I know but I loved him. A real free spirit. I guess Hawkwind in Heaven needed a sax and flute player. Reunited with Bob, Huw, Lemmy, Ginger, Dik Mik,. Go outside tonight, turn your ear up towards the sky and I bet we will hear a bit of sax blasting down from above! Thanks for the music Nik! lots of love.

very sad news indeed. I'm from Chile, and I've always dreamed of one day traveling and seeing old Nik live (and Hawkwind, of course). Progressive rock isn't usually very popular here, especially if you're under 40 haha. It is very sad for me because in my musical journey, from the moment I discovered Hawkwind and consequently Nik's work, I have been captivated and amazed by his sound. Thanks to Nik I discovered my taste for instruments, for sounds, for the environment, and all that characteristic atmosphere. Today my goal is to make music with their influences, and by infinity and the cosmos that will be the case. Grateful to live life listening to such a tremendous person.

The Hawks were the first group I saw, at the Hammersmith Odeon on Sunday, February 9th, 1975. It cost a pound. The group featured the classic lineup with Lemmy and Stacia and it
was glorious. Between 1971 - 1975, they couldn't put a foot wrong. From all accounts, Nik was a very nice man who took the time to chat with the fans. He was also responsible for
writing great tracks such as "Masters Of The Universe".
    He was a class act.

Gutted . I saw him more times than I can remember. With Hawkwind at a couple large gigs and big festival in the 80's, and with Inner City Unit at a small basement college gig wearing a sparkly cape with shaven head except for one long peace of hair in shape of a horn! Mainly though I will remember him for the many many times my wife and I had great nights with several bands over the last 20 years. We went to see him whenever we could with Inner City Unit , The Nik Turner All Stars , Hawklords and especially Space Ritual. Back in the early 2000s he would wear a strange red.spikey top covering his whole upper half and head making him look like a bizarre red Sonic the Hedgehog as he would walk amongst the crowd playing his saxophone. These gigs were always at small venues, sometimes with less than hundred people but he always seemed to love playing and had a broad smile and a handshake before and after the show . When the Space Rock show finished he'd often come back and play the Pink Panther theme . We last saw him about 3 years ago guesting with Hawklords at age of 79. I remember going see Space Ritual at the same time Led Zeppelin played their reunion gig at the O2 . As usual we had a great night and.I distinctly remember thinking that I knew that we were exactly at the right place.

One's Heroes are passing through the veil...don't panic, your memories will make them prevail. He died on Remembrance day. We shall remember him, a true Inner Space Warrior, with some idiosyncracies along the way, but hell, so have i and they're not a few. Always dug those woodwind fluctuations, especially until WOTEOT (and namely on that gem). He was the one who could compete with the Great Andy McKay and the giant David Jackson from contemporary groups you should know about...he was the guy whom Hendrix dedicated a song to, at the Isle of Wight Fest in 1970, and he was only in the audience, with a silver painted face. Hail Captain Turner. Salute!

Found out the news when I woke up yesterday. Was a very sad day for me. I am a massive Hawkwind freak. I have more Hawkwind in my music collection than any other band or artist. I have one Nik Turner album, Space Gypsy, on CD and it's great. I saw Nik Turner's Hawkwind in Austin TX, where I was living at the time, at this tiny club Calle Red 7 back in 2014. He was selling a limited edition 7 inch red vinyl single for Falling Angel. Only 500 of those were made. When he stepped outside of the club I went up and talked to him for a bit and he signed the Fallen Angel record that I bought. I also got my picture taken with him. He was one of the coolest people I ever met. That record is one of my prized possessions. So glad I got to see him live and meet him. It was a great show.

I was at this show too. My first time seeing Nik in Austin. He was very friendly the 2 times I met him in Austin. With Nik gone there is no more Hawkwind. Unlike Brock he has carried the flag forward. Hawkwind was my favorite band too. 😪

Hawkwind are amazing. They are the seminal space rock band and with Nick and Robert Calvert on board they pioneered the outer limits of absurdity and creativity. Along with BOC they share the Michael Moorcock influence too.

A reminder to appreciate the music of many bands as possible and live your life to the max but also keep vises (alcohol, soda, fast food, etc) in balance so you can live a long, healthy life.

Space Ritual is wonderful: Nik, Dave, Calvert, Lemmy, King, Detmar and Dikmik - molded into a wild and rogue rythmn machine of humanity's fears transmitting a wall of sound on the emergency broadcast frequency across the galaxy - Time we left this world today ..... see you on the other side Nik.

A fantastic person who was the true spirit of Hawkwind.. Would have been nice to see a word for nik on the Hawkwind homepage twitter or Facebook... But I suppose the captain won't allow that..

A friend and myself had the pleasure of meeting Nik Turner in 1984, Earth Ritual Tour. Had a coupke of drinks with him. A wondrful, genuine guy.

Nik lived only a few miles from me here in Wales, not that I ever met him. Very sad news indeed.

Do you have any info about the funeral? Maybe his family want to keep it private but if you know anything alot of people would be grateful.
