I think it's worth considering how naming the book "100 Days of Sunlight" affects the reader from the beginning. As it is the theme (and therefore the revelation at the end of the story), making it the title gives the reader something of a "reread" perspective. People are going in looking for the aspects of sunlight, not surprised by them. It puts the reader "in the know," rather than in the mode of "curiosity," which in part gives the story the impact you're looking for. The title impacts how readers go into the story, assumptions, and what they're looking for, etc.
I think this is very helpful. Titles are the bane of my existence. I have such a hard time coming up with titles on my own. I have two ideas for graphic novels and the titles are the hardest part for me. I will give these ideas a try!
That's so real... But I just put my pro's name so that it's easier to explain my story to someone who is kinda helping me write. Like the beta reader who I show my writing halfway. So if I have multiple WIPs I don't confuse them

My novel is called Distorted Perceptions. It always had that title, and it felt right from the outset. My short story/flash fiction collection is Alternative Landscapes. It's more abstract, rather than literally referring to landscapes, and it also came from the title of one of the stories, which is called Colour, Clutter, and Alternative Landscapes. Great discussion. I think many titles out there are too generic, because authors are so concerned about genre expectations. 😃💝

Anyways, great video, I think that thinking about how you can make the reader ask a question is key. Make sure its strongly connected to your story or it won't ring true but other than that an original title that creates a question will always be a winner.
I have two names in mind for my book. It's about a young girl who is kidnapped and used as a test subject by someone who wants to make like a potion kind of thing to keep children young. The two titles I have are "Timeless" and "Forever Young" but I'm not sure which one to use yet.
Interestingly, my two books that are titled came to me from the premise. They are two books in a seven book series. And, I haven't thought of a name for the series, or the subsequent books, really, because I think I just don't have enough information yet? It'll come eventually. The first book is called "The Tournament", because it has to do with... well, a tournament, and the events surrounding that. The second book is called "The Oasis" which I love, because it's a major location in the book, and it represents the theme of finding peace/relaxing/not stressing in the middle of a barren, desert place. ^_^

It really catches the theme I was going for, but after listening to y'all talk, I'm realizing that it's not concrete. There's no image, really. So I think I'm going to keep looking, like you suggested, as I write!

My debut novel is being edited rn, so I hv a lot of time on my hands to outline the sequel, to rest, and to think about the little things that go into writing a book- one of these things being the title! I hv a title, but it's not really fitting besides what happens at the end of my book... I'm also trying to brainstorm an overall name for the series, but that's really hard!!! I took you guy's advice and wrote down key words that center the theme and I grew more in love with my book. BROTHERHOOD is my main message, but I cant quite wrap my head around what to do... Thank you so very much for making this video and I will not procrastinate with my title anymore!!!! If you hv any suggestions, that would rlly help!
What really helped me was studying other people's creations. Mine is a fun project cause I'm not a professional but I intend to make it as realistic as possible, as I would have to make it a believable and enjoyable story. So I watched various media, from anime/manga, comics and cartoons to games and I noticed a pattern, especially since I like to mimic that sort of theme picking: there is a rather specific concept in the story, or just a regular word but it's specifically put into context so that it's clearly distinguishable. This particularly is a really used and interesting pattern in manga/anime I really like. So they come up with the concept everything rotates around and make it the title, or maybe there is something related to said concept that united with the concept itself creates the lore, therefore it's a great way to summarize it into a few words, precisely two in most cases. I felt mine was dumb, so I changed it a lot, and when I decided to bring in the concept of the hip hop community I really love, I decided people would unite in crews, and one day the protagonist would form one with three friends. It is a world of constant fights between Rebels and Repressers, both specific categories having triggerable powers. Those three friends happened to have awakened powers and so are Rebels, hence the name "The Rebelcrew", which stuck as the main title. I loved it since I wanted something simple and viable, and I genuinely hope it doesn't already exist

I usually don't have any trouble titling my books, scripts, and stories. I can find a title very easily.
