Hey primo. Very nice work. Can i ask you a question? How did you go around the difference in the height of the wall plates? I see the wall plates are the same. I see thst you could control the birds mouth of one side of the wall, but then the rafter wouldn't sit fully on the plate. And if the rafters were to receive sheetrock youd have to float under later?
Whatever your rafter pitch on the left of the hip is, let’s say 6-12… and whatever the rafter pitch on the right of the hip is, let’s say 3-12… now find the center of 6 & 3, that equals 4.5… using a framing square mark a line 4.5-17… that’s your angle for the hip… 17 is the magic number
So just to ensure I’m tracking…. Let’s a 9/12 sharing a 4/12. Put your framing square at 6.5/16 and that’s the angle of the hip and I’m assuming the jacks on the steep side?
@@jasonperez0 For the hip rafter only… then lay out the hip rafter where the Jack rafters will land and measure each rafter, then cut each side on their corresponding pitch 9/12 and 4/12

Not just heel height but you would have to 3:30 offset the corner on the 4.5/12 side. For instance, if you wanted 12" soffits on both sides you would place the center of the hip 6" off the corner of the wall on the 4.5/12 side at 56.309 degrees.
A string line makes easy work of most complex problems on a build. Great explanation of a bastard hip. Great looking work also!

I don't think that's correct. A 3/12 6/12 Irregular hip is 12.6 degrees. A 4.5/17 hip is 16.7

Never heard of them.
When the building is square the plan angles are the diagonal of 8-12 = 34° & 56°
You might get 2 different sizes on your overhangs doing it exactly on the corner
Not might... always. Unless you change heel height. This is a hacky way of doing it.
