In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Bichon Frise that you might not know.
    A Quick Overview:
    Group: Companion Dogs
    Weight: 7 to 12 pounds
Height: 9 to 11 inches tall at the shoulder
    Life Expectancy: 12 - 15 years
With compact bodies, baby-doll faces, and fluffy white hair, Bichons are a very appealing breed whose looks are enhanced by a perky, good-natured disposition. They are often mistaken for white Poodles. The Bichon, as he's affectionately called, is related to several small breeds: the Coton de Tulear, a dog who originated off the African coast on an island near Madagascar; the Bolognese, bred in northern Italy near the city of Bologna; the Havanese, from Cuba; and the Maltese, developed on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. Bichons also appear to have originated in the Mediterranean and to have been taken along on trade routes into other countries.
Bichons may be small dogs - large specimens reach barely a foot in height - but they're hardy. Despite their diminutive size, they're not classified as a Toy breed by the American Kennel Club; instead, they're members of the Non-Sporting Group.
Bichons are always white (although puppies maybe cream or pale yellow), with black eyes and black noses. Their arched necks give them a proud, confident look, while their well-plumed tails curve gracefully over their backs. If you're looking for a wonderful family pet, consider the Bichon. This dog loves to play. He's always happy (except when left alone for long periods of time), and his demeanor is affectionate and gentle.
Because they don't shed like other breeds, Bichons often are recommended for people with allergies. This is something you should discuss with your allergist since not everyone reacts the same way to a Bichon. Before making a commitment to getting a Bichon - or any type of dog - be sure to spend some time in the presence of the breed if you have allergies.

I miss my Bichon so much. He lived to 16 years old and he was the best dog I've ever had. He thought he was a full-sized retriever, and loved to play fetch more than anything in the world. He was trustworthy off leash, and the biggest people pleaser I've ever seen. We kept his coat cut very short because he was always getting into so much adventure outside he'd get filthy in no time. His hair was just barely long enough to protect his skin from the sun, and aside from that it never got any longer or we'd have been for EVER grooming him. He was also massive for his breed. He was tall and muscular, never overweight, but still weighed in at 24 lbs, standing at nearly half again as large as most Bichons.
Oh and Rudy LOVED the water! Though it might have been more about his OCD about playing fetch, I'd throw a tennis ball into the river at a swimming hold near our house and he'd fly off the rocks into the water and get the ball and come back and start barking at me to throw it again. He also became a good tracker, too, because again his OCD with playing fetch drove him to it. Eventually we'd get physically tired out of throwing the ball and we'd start hiding it for him, and he'd spend an hour (no exaggeration) looking for it, running around, sniffing, and circling back, until he was certain he'd found it usually up on a high shelf where he couldn't get to it, and then once he was certain it was there, he'd stand up on his hind legs and wave at the ball until we got it for him. Then we'd have to put it in an air tight container or he'd keep up his tracking all day long too. If an hour passed and he couldn't smell the ball, he'd finally give up and go lay down and sleep.

We have enjoyed 2 Bichon Frise dogs. They had different personalities but we loved them both! What they had in commons was they loved to swim in the Caribbean Sea! They were both strong swimmers and did not mind a wave catching them before entering the beach. They vigorously shook the water off!
Our make Bichon loved to make up games and play them on his own. He would chase a tennis ball on the beach and let it roll down the beach retrieving it in the sea and run on the beach with his ball repeating it for long periods of time. He was such a love of a pet. Very intelligent!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

They are awesome dogs. You must train them like a large dog. You must be diligent about potty training, as they can be difficult to train. Grooming is also a must. also making them comfortable, with all types of situations, lots of people and children love, the breed and will often, want to pet them. Finding one can be difficult as some want a puppy. Rescues prescreen applications and can be very strict with the adoption process.

I have a bichon and I had him by a society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. He’s been with me for more than 2 years now. They told me that he was 5 years but looking at this reaction and his teeth I could tell he was much younger. I took him to the vet and he confirmer it. Jazz was 1 year when I had him. (More time for us)
Jazz is really playful and sneaky. He loves to test my limits and he’s really cuddly. I love him so much. We’ve been through a lot together. Jazz was an abandoned dog. They beat him up and broke his paws and threw him our of their car when they left him. He was really scared the first time I saw him but I knew he was for me. Because he never showed himself there and when I called his name, he immediately came to me and let me caress him. I fell in love instantly. I took him with 2 days later and he’s been with me ever since. ❤️

He loves going outside and running. He barks when people come into the home, and barks at the dogs next door, across the yard. He doesn’t bark other than that. He is so lovable. He loves to play with the cat. But the cat, is not having it… he doesn’t care for him intruding on his space. We use to own a bichon for the pass 18 years Plus. (put to rest today).. Yes, I did say 18 years plus... Today unfortunately we had to put to rest our beloved it Cookies a female dog, She came from a highly professional show dogs family. However she was not a show dog by any means , she was beautiful in every way, she was a healthy, never sick, an always energetic dog and for the pass 3 or 4 years. She started to lose her hearing and vision for the last 6 weeks she started to have issues with her hips and not able to walk or even walk in a stray line and sitting down most of the time. Today, I cook breakfast and i try to give her some ham and eggs that i just cool. After that she try to walk around the kitchen to see what i had to offer but she couldn't even walk. We had to make a difficult decision after her short age of 18 yrs old (108 yrs old in dog years).... We will miss you Cookies.. She was a great dog and I'm sure you would enjoy having a bichon as a family member and everything on this video is right on point, You will love to have a bichon to the end of their life!

I adopted a dog, 3 monts ago, from a foster who found him living on the street. We thought he was poodle terrier mix. Until a second time the groomer came, and he said his coat is like that of a bichon. True to that, when I read about bichon frise characteristics, they're match to my dog to the T!
The thing is, I don't like small dog with cutie cutie hair.....like bichons or poms. Luckily, since I never knew what breed he was, that doesn't matter now. He came to me with shaved hair, because he was matted when he was found. Now, after great nutrition, his hair really fluffy. But I'm keeping him hair short, because I have mild allergy to pet hair.

I have a Bichon and he is 7 yrs old. I got him from a rescue farm had his DNA texted to see what kind of dog he was. It came back a Bichon. This is a great dog form companionship. My dog Toby , goes every where i go and i mean everywhere. He is easy to train and easy to bath he loves his baths and grooming day. The only thing i have found weird about him is that he barks at his food before he eats Other then that he loves to play, walk and follows me everywhere. I love this dog if my husband would let me i would have more.

I got Yuki from a shelter 3 years ago, they thought she was 5 yo. She looks just like the dog in this video. She always has to be around people, can't stand being alone. She prefers to have human touch at all times. At night, she'll start at the center of my bed but by morning she is under the covers on her back right next to my head always leaning against me. She never plays with toys and rarely with other dogs. She is smart and can learn things right away. For a small dog (10 lbs), she is fast like a pistol. Her hair is soft, but very hard to groom because her hair knots up everywhere - she cries when I brush her, so I have to use a flexible comb to gently pick out each knot. She doesn't shed or smell at all. Her teeth were in bad shape and her breath was horrible - she had 13 teeth extracted last year . Since then, we do daily teeth brushing and gum wiping which helps tremendously. This is a high maintenance dog for sure.

Our daughter thought it would be a good idea to get a dog her freshman year of college out of State...I know, bad idea. We tried every parent angle to stop her to no avail. Within 6 months, dad got a call and she asked if we wanted Ella...dad drove up from Texas to Ohio the next morning! Dad has been her favorite for 10 years now; she is a wonderful soul.

I was never a small dog/non-short hair dog person my whole life....when my grandmother passed away, we took her dog who happened to be a Bichon Frise....and you know what?....he is the sweetest, most well behaved dog that I have ever had.....the only thing that I would say is wrong with him is his breath, man does it stink...i assumed it was a rotten tooth or something like that but when we took him to get a check-up, nothing came back to me about his teeth (I was not present during the visit)....a friend of mine who also had one before said his dog had a similar problem as far as the bad breath goes....he refuses to eat/chew the breath eater treats so I don't know what to do....is this just an issue for Bichon Frise or what??.... anyone have any ideas??

Ours is 10 and the vet says his teeth are awesome, no visible tartar but he too has bad breath. Loves to eat, have switched to a refrigerated dry food, no wet food now, he has lost 3/4 pound. He hates water, bathing and grooming even though he has had it regularly since 3 months but if there is a lake with a bird in it he will race in to try to catch the bird. He also hates to be alone for any length of time and will follow one of us throughout the house all day, needs a buddy to be around but is very loveable and sweet. Not a barker either unless someone rings the doorbell and then his loud bark is surprising for a little guy. All in all a wonderful dog, can't imagine not having him around.
