By the way anyone watching this in 2020, this technique is now illegal! Not allowed to throw anyone directly over their head/neck anymore. You can go for the yoko sumi gaeshi which is more to the side and over the shoulder than the head.
@@reigninblood123 BJJ - I only mentioned it as the video is titled 'sumi for BJJ'. I had to learn this myself as yoko sumi gaeshi is my main throw in BJJ and ive had to learn never to go for this sumi variation.
@@reigninblood123 Well it depends on the ruleset obviously, but in IBJJF competition there is a rule where the wording is such that people have just refrained from attempting this technique, because if you dont hit it perfectly you can get DQ'd. If Jimmy in this case just touched Travis leg it would be considered a sacrifice throw as a defence to the single leg while the opponents head is on the outside. In that case if Jimmys head even slightly touches the floor you can get a ref DQ you.... (obviously each ref is different too...).
3. Single leg take down with the head on the OUTSIDE will no longer be allowed for kids & white belts (ref will just stop & restart, no penalty). For blue to black it is allowed but if the opponent then does a counter takedown (by grabbing the belt like a ‘sumi gaeshi’) then they will be Dqed. SO, just shove the head into the inside and do a side sumi-gaeshi which is legal.
Thank you very much.

I believe head outside sumi-gaeshi is illegal in IBJJF tournaments.
