    If you are lefty and know how to use it , you have a very big advantage. First ,block the opponent with the lapel grip to block the moves and then work on your attack. Great vid Jimmy and Travis!

    Mr. Pedro, getting out of rear naked chokes done by amateurs isn't all that hard. A master of grappling should be an escape artist. If your coach doesn't teach it to you, he is either lazy or on a power trip. More posture breaking please!

    WAIT! I have so many questions after watching every Travis/ Shintaro video...
    Travis said that you want to grab the right sleeve of a righty, then you have some control over his body cuz they can't turn to throw you...
    Also 2:05 he says clearly not to circle to your right against a righty, you would be helping them cuz they want to throw you in that direction...
    0:36 aaaand he said that if you grab someone like that they could Maki komi ( or something like that ) you :p

    Very good sir.
    Iv trained bjj for 4 years blue belt.
    Just did 6 months judo training and achieved my adult yellow belt.
    I love the honor and respect involved in judo the club i train at asked me what my goals were and i told them .
    They welcomed me with open arms and respect.
    Im currently in Brazil training for two months in San Paulo at b9 with master barbosa.
    The judo i have learnt has helped me tremendously with my stand up and take downs and body control.
    Osss 👏👍🥇👍👏

    Thank you for this video if you're standing still it's hard to throw you. I've studied all the martial arts to some extent all my life but I'm not going to the Olympics. I'm going to that big tournament out in Denver. I might even enter the group event. You know where everybody puts on their orange state issued gee and fights for their life in a cell in the Denver City jail.

  • @williamm4366

    I feel like until today the grips and bacis of judo throws and pins are lacking in the fundamentals of bjj, you only see great standing up actions only at the highest levels and that's a shame because that's what dictates all the fight.

  • @timgraczewski872

    In a previous video Jimmy suggested that you secure the inside lapel before grabbing the sleeve. Is the recommendation here targeted to BJJ players competing against opponents generally inexperienced in standup? I compete in BJJ and I’m trying to develop a strong grip-and-takedown game plan. It feels like 2-on-1 to secure the sleeve first is the most effective.

    Nothing better than a clean Judo throw in BJJ, but damn it's hard to get good enough to pull it off.

    So genius and so elementary, I forgot. In ping pong, beginners want to go for the slam. But you can't just slam the ball. You have to move the ball, left and right, forward and backward, until your opponent cannot control the ball anymore and hit the ball high, then you slam the ball.

    Awesome it's great seeing a fellow,lefty accomplish something
    so many techniques at my dojo had to be modified for me to use
    which sucks. And thus I tried boxing instead of kung fu but I want to learn judo so bad. judo is the ideal anti bully martial art, it and boxing.

    I have to disagree on most of the video
    There is an easy way to defeat someone using jigotai..defensive stance or here, stiff arming. Also you have to create kusushi to throw a person, he's calling it motion, but that is semantic. 3 elements of a throw are kusushi, sukuri, and kake. Off balance, entrance or fitting, then execution. Also, grabbing someone's sleeves doesn't give you control over their body. It may give you some control over the arm, but you have to control a person's center to control the body.

    • @gregorde
      @gregorde 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ronin2167 you know Jimmy was world champion and a 2x Olympic medalist, right? I think he knows what he’s doing.

    • @ronin2167
      @ronin2167 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregorde when you are relying on strength to jerk a person into a throw I would disagree, but that seems to be the trend of modern judo. I learned from older guys.

    • @ronin2167
      @ronin2167 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregorde also grabbing a person sleeve does not give you control of his body. It really doesn't even give you control over his arm. The key to successful throws is controlling your opponent's center, not an appendage.

    • @gregorde
      @gregorde 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ronin2167 the point of controlling the sleeve hand is to shut down your opponent’s offense. Jimmy controls the sleeve hand then sets lapel hand on the inside, giving him total control over the inside space. The grip he has on the sleeve allows him to drive the arm into the hip. This is pretty basic grip fighting that certainly any shodan should know. Jimmy is one of the best grippers in the world.

    • @ronin2167
      @ronin2167 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gregorde Sorry, but I disagree, and it wouldn't work on me or any of the Judo guys I train with. It's a very narrow and simplistic understanding of Judo. Which is the problem with today's Judo. Sure they are good in the things they do with other's who only understand Judo in a similar manner.
