GOD, THE MEMORIES OF A HAPPY,ER TIME COME,S FLOODING BACK JUST LISTENING TO THEM NOW, CHEERS LINDISFARNE FOR ALL THE GREAT TIME,S BACK IN THE DAY. PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU ALL MY FRIEND'S. 🙏✌️😎🏴
Pure dead brilliant, Billy chanelling the one and only Jimmy Alan Hull as only he could do. Missed but never forgotten, those Xmas concerts will be with me forever.
@@tomdevlin9274 tom so agree as long as the songs are sung alan hull will be alive ! I lived near marty and his music is great too ? lindisfarne are great and i,m scots and used to drink with pete agnew who formed nazareth so love music from that era ? I,d love shields to have a 70 festival during a summer ( when we get one ) with lindisfarne /nazareth etc
My favourite song from Lindisfarne. It sounds as good as back in the 70's I think. The sound quality is better of course. And the harmonies are awesome! Thanks for uploading
In those days Lindisfarn used to sing in the local folk club along with Vin Garbut. Not nessissarly on the same nights. Loved it all. It told a story. Not like today drivel. Xx❤
Great gordie band. I worked up there in the late eighties. Fucking loved Newcastle, and I worked all over Britain, best people, reminded me of being home in Ireland 🇮🇪.
2 x 12 string guitars - what a brilliant jangle! i loved this song as a kid, I live in the South of England but it always reminds me of happy times in Northumbria.
Just a wonderful group and lots of memories for me. I have played this song in my last band years ago and in my current one and the audiences love it!! One of my first 8-track cassettes was "Fog on the Tyne" .....played in my Ford Cortina Mk2!!!!
Billy did a great job of heading up Lindisfarne after Alan Hull died. A great talent in his own right. This was a very good Lindisfarne line up and soon decided to call it a day after this. Music to be loved for all time.
End of September and only know just found this, what the hell have I been doing, take,s me back to the great day,s we had back then, good memories some a little hazy but still put,s a smile on my face. PEACE TO YOU ALL MY FRIEND'S. 🕊️🙏✌️😎🏴
Looking back it's quite amazing how Lindisfarne represented, gathered, championed and gelled a whole city as one. District against district, street against street, family against family and brother against brother. Whatever differences they had Lindisfarne could bring them all together through the power of great songs. What we need now is a Lindisfarne in Ukraine, and Israel and Korea and Afghanistan........
In Edinburgh the “corner” was the Binns clock at the west end. A favourite meetings place for first dates. On the hour and half hour were the main times. By quarter past and quarter to those stood up would then hook up anyway. Probably all urban myth. Those were the days.
Lovely. The singing blend is super. The only thing I missed a little was the bass, whose heavy plodding beat was such an atmospheric element in the original. It's there, but doesn't stick out in the mix as it might.
Totally agree. I noticed it pretty soon, too... along with the wonderful overall quality here and with such a superb song. I bought their first album way back when, and even though I was (still am) a guitarist, I alway played "air bass" to this one.
@@Maltloaflegrande There is too much attack on each note for a wind instrument. In the admittedly mimed OGWT video (surprising) it looks like a Fender bass, and in a 1973 Australian concert and interview it's a Rickenbacker fretless bass that's being played.
@@mrt3870 Oh, don't get me wrong, I figured it wasn't a tuba even then (and bear in mind the tiny PYE transistor radio 1 was hearing it on; it's a miracle I could hear the bass at all!) but the sustain of each note had that slight tuba-esqe quality. I've also seen the OGWT footage of Clements with a P-bass, and that certainly seems more feasible than the Ricky he was also sometimes seen with. In the latter years of Lindisfarne MK1, he was often photoed with a P-bass fretless and I saw him on OGWT playing that behind Rab Noakes shortly after he quit Jack-the-lad. it's very easy to get that deep, soft sound with a fretless. Either way up, the bass sound on "Meet me" was awesome.
@@Maltloaflegrande It is indeed the sort of parp-parp, parp-parp 4/4 line that a tuba often plays, except it was more bung-bung, bung-bung. Maybe it was deliberate, consciously or subconsciously, as the North of England has a long history of successful brass bands. Thank you for answering.
Takes you back to an innocence that never truly existed, but was good on paper. Gentle poetry sung with a smile on their face. You must have a heart of flint not to smile listening to a song like this. Good luck Ms O'Reilly x
What a band. The late great,Alan Hull, singer songwriter. The guy on mandolin, who sang meet me on the corner &also featured on ,"Maggie May",by Rod Stewart. The whole band oozed talent.
these are cool tho like: did i miss them somehow during the 70s 80s? God speed anyway ps this is REALLY hard music... The timing, the instrumentalsim and even the lyrics are toungue twisting at times.. this band, despite looking like MASSIVE MASSIVE hippies back in the 70's... is a highly taught set up exeleent music Gs
Lindisfarne. Great Group !!
Oh the memories.. singing along to this in Ireland this morning 2023..🎵👍

These are the songs I miss hearing on the radio.
You diamond's. I was in the Netherlands and I pestered my friend to keep playing on the harmonica. It might seem naff to you now but I'm tears. ❤
Takes me back to a Lindisfarne Christmas Concert at Newcastle City Hall. Magical night. Magical music then and now - 40 years apart!
Pure dead brilliant, Billy chanelling the one and only Jimmy Alan Hull as only he could do. Missed but never forgotten, those Xmas concerts will be with me forever.
Actually Alan Hull only sang harmonies on this, and he didn't write it.
@@lonegroover OK mia culpa but you know what I mean, best band ever those Xmas parties were an absolute amazing party.
There should always be someone somewhere playing the great songs of Lindisfarne & Alan Hull...
There always will.

This song always brings tears to my eyes , my own reasons,, I'm sure it does the same for others....
You are not alone.....many a Lindisfarne tune has brought a tear to my eye....
I just sat there crying like a fool, this was one of my dad's favourites.Salford's best, gone too soon.
You had better believe it
Cried my eyes out at Northern Kin to this yet again this year... x
Me too, trying to play this in my newly formed band to my girlfriend, now my wife. very misty eyed.
Alan Hull. Fantastic songwriter and musician. RIP Alan.
Pretty sure this was written by Rod Clements
@@Turkishtone Correct! 100% written by Rod!
Bliddy Bliddy Brilliant x Maybe I have only listened to this 100 times or me? AND sung at the top of my voice every time!!!!
My favourite song from Lindisfarne. It sounds as good as back in the 70's I think. The sound quality is better of course. And the harmonies are awesome! Thanks for uploading
One thing I can put my finger on, the song is way too short! 😉
Living in Thailand now and listening to this brings back some great memories from being brought up in the North East
Me too. I am in Japan now.
Serious talent. And the voice is not diminished. Beautiful to watch.
We saw those Christmas concerts too, they were absolutely brilliant!!!
Simply fabulous, real tear in the eye stuff. Thanks for upload.
Great music never dies
Folk music is awesome especially from lindisfarne
i didnt want the song to end so i played it again this was beautiful

Wow Beautiful song one of my all time favs thanks for sharing
Gr8 song.. Love Lindisfarne ❤️
Excellent group with the amazing voice of Billy Mitchell, which was a fantastic version of the song.
He has an excellent voice....Did he join the group after Alan Hull's passing?.....
First I came across the cover version by Melanie. Both versions are beautiful.
Great gordie band. I worked up there in the late eighties. Fucking loved Newcastle, and I worked all over Britain, best people, reminded me of being home in Ireland 🇮🇪.
Beautiful work 😢
Great band who's listening in 2022

Fab performance.. miss Alan 🥲 but would see the great Lindisfarne regardless ❤️

Agreed.
great music from great musicians
Must be good, as you’re getting old, to realise that you are as popular now as you were in your heyday. And can still hold a tune
Takes me back
Lovely ❤️
reminds me of my teenage. years. great
Bubbling like a bairn. Love this place.
I saw Lindisfarne live once in Windsor. But they have never recovered from the death of Alan Hull.
Wow! Ray(‘s your glasses) Laidlaw!!!!!!
Came across this by complete accident today, one of the best versions ive heard
Me too ❤️

Just a cover band without Alan's voice!
For Helen...
The best kept secret in the world id the NE of England we dont have great wealth but we have every thing else
Brings back old memories
Still sound great after all those years.
How terrible that the voice sync is out
I first heard Lindisfarne in either 1970/71 Australia when they "supported" Slade. They were unbelievable, for me they made the concert.

Wow, majestic. And, for me, like for many others, so so emotional.
Always makes me think of buskers at the monument on Saturday afternoons.
I know he’s not the original but I prefer Billy’s voice over Alan’s especially when they do Lady Eleanor.
Part of the best top 3 all time maybe .this american pie and Nilsson without you....
Thank you.I loved this as a child...brought a tear to my eye.xx
fucking awesome
great song!
Looking forward to seeing these twice this year
perhaps better than the original....a very great group
Fuck off
It’s good but you can’t beat the original line up....
'Love this rendition even more than the original from way back - thank you for uploading !
Rest in peace,Bill.
