I believe that Daniel ,whle in captivity,was elevated to chief Rab,by the king after answerng his dream.Daniel also gave us the wonderful prophecy of the 'SEVENTY SEVENS',in the book of Daniel, which accurately predicts the coming of Christ.So I believe they passed this down to subsequent generations & were looking for the star at that time.
