I always put on a dab of conditioner too, on my face before I shave to soften the hairs even more. For cleanliness, I always try and stay in the shower and shave in there, letting the water knock it all off and down the drain. Also, don't shave every single day, give your skin a day or two to recover before shaving again.
@@ezbred8145Yup. Pre-shave oil before lathering on shaving soap with a brush. That got rid of like 95% of nicks/cuts for me. Using a dry towel/washcloth to pull my neck skin back under my ears to shave my Adams apple (by shaving AROUND it instead) took care of the other 5%.
Multi-blade razors can turn follicles inside out, leading to ingrown hairs and irritation. Razors with ever more blades were a race to the bottom and a retrograde step; the older single blade razors, such as double edged safety razors and straight razors, are still far more effective and less irritating to the skin. They take a bit of practice, but they are worth it. After 18 years of using single edged razors and having discovered classic barbershop companies such as Geo F Trumper and Proraso along the way, I still find shaving a joy and look forward to it. I could never go back to using multiblades and canned shave gel.
As someone with a full beard that’s basically God of War length, I just use hot water to prep my hair and skin, then I use a quality lotion and straight razor to trim. The lotion keeps my skin soft and zero irritation after. I use a foil Andis shaver for my neck to save time. Straight razor for all other areas. Nothing gives you clean lines like straight razor! I lotion each area as I go. When I’m finished shaving, I use the same lotion generously on my neck and a little dab on the others areas. My skin looks great!
Bro you should never exfoliate and shave on the same day. That way you are just gonna harm your skin. Exfoliating means getting rid of the dead skin cells on the top layer of your skin, and shaving does the same thing. It's called dermaplaining in skincare. Son if you want to avoid an overly-sensitized, burnt and irritated skin have gaps between your exfoliating and shaving days
Disagree - I exfoliate once a week instead of cleansing before a shave, and it's always the smoothest one with least irritation. It removes the dead skin cells and crap and lets the razor glide more smoothly and evenly. If you're scrubbing with a shaving brush you're already exfoliating anyway. Also it's not dermaplaning, that's done dry rather than the thick leather we use to protect the face during a shave.
@@-SimonRiley As with most things, it's a big fat depends. If you're using a cartridge razor I'd suggest staying with the grain; at least for me the razor burn was obscene. As soon as I switched to a safety the difference was incredible. I'm no expert but generally people do 3 to 4 passes, that's what I do, and I get a super close shave with little irritation. The passes are usually with the grain, then across the grain (I do from the centre out on both sides) and then against the grain. Super cheap too. A blade costs me a few cents and lasts about a week. Soap is 8 bucks and lasts me 6 months. I have course, thick hair so it needs a little more, a lot of people with finer hair are very happy with two passes, one with, then against. Blades and soap will last longer then, too.
Idk about exfoliating and then shaving . When you shave you’re “scratching” dead skin right off of your face/body. So a double exfoliation can be harmful especially to people like me who have sensitive skin
I really suck at doing a full shave. My last full shave was in March 2022. I shaved off all my facial hairs plus the mustache areas. Three days after my full shave routine, I saw so much redness all over my face. I abstained from doing a full shave of my face for one year and a couple of months.
The mistake that I made was shaving too tightly. If you run your fingers against the grain, if you press them against the skin you're always going to be able to feel more stubble. But if it looks smooth, it's best to leave well enough alone. Also, don't use aftershave splash on the areas you've shaved. Use aftershave _balm_ on those areas. Use the splash where you _haven't_ shaved. The splash will only further dry out the skin, and you've already scraped essential oils out of it. Use balm to rehydrate your skin instead. And the balm will make the skin feel as smooth as you want it to feel. These days I only shave the throat and above the beard line, so it's not a lot of area for me. My last full shave was in 2004, but I only discovered the pointers above like 6-7 years ago when I had my beard trimmed professionally.
The number one trick of getting the right neckline: be super lean and muscular and young😅 If your neck looks like in the bad example no lower or higher will give great definition 😆
Yep. Unfortunately my beard and jawline look exactly like the guy used in the bad example and going too low is just going to make my face look fatter and look like I have a neck beard because I don't have any actual space under my chin, it's just gonna look like I stuck a patch of grass on my neck. My whole life I've been a mouth breather due to a deviated septum and it has ruined my life in many ways more than one and once you get old enough you can't fix it unless you get surgery. Getting the deviated septum fixed and starting to breathe through the nose and mewing isn't going to fix it and I get really depressed at times thinking about how unattractive it makes me look.
@@mysticzero2314Bro you’re overthinking it. Embrace how you look and go to the gym more. I’m literally the exact same as you, deviated septum and mouth breather my whole life. Sure you don’t have the perfect angular jaw, no one’s perfect! You’ll be okay man
@sebastiangraham001 I've been going to the gym 6 times a week for almost 2 years so I think I don't need to go to the gym more lol. Also yes I wouldn't mind if my jawline was average or subpar, I don't need to have a perfect amazing jawline, but my point is it isn't either of those things. My jawline is practically non-existent.
Sure the inch above the the Adam Apple is a classic, but imho as long as you leave the hair on the bottom of your jawline higher hairlines can work as great, at least for short beards, as that doesn't distort the structure making it look like a chin strap which doesn't fit. Especially if faded but that's optional. Best to go progressively lower for longer beards otherwise it might look like there's a hole under the beard with long fringes/bangs hanging around the jaw ^_^.
The exfoliation tip is only good if you specify next to that how many shaves you usually do per week cause you shouldn’t be exfoliating more than twice a week if you have sensitive skin. Plus a good exfoliatior is essential.

You know I get it just like if I've been around the house cleaning, doing stuff in the yard. But when I go out I clean up. Shaving can irritate the skin sometimes. I'm not throwing this guy under the bus. Depends on where you are and what you're doing.
Yeah, it's indeed possible the pic used at 0:31 as bad example of this did it not the best way and went even above his jawline, you can see on the front of his chin he didn'leave even a cm on the bottom of it, but when I left about a cm on bottom along it and it didn't look this chin strappy, though I also have less neck fat, no shaming intended, but it can factor on the "George Lucas effect" though I'm sure he also shaves higher than where his real jaw would be (:
