What a STRANGE turn of events at Saint Laurent, the first time we've ever had to chat about a PRICE DECREASE from a luxury brand! What's your take? Buy YSL bags at their new decreased prices: rstyle.me/+_r2ccV1YXDU4ULua3aEltA *AFF
This actually makes me respect YSL more. I've probably completed my bag collection already, but I would buy YSL just to support them. They respect the times, and I feel the other brands have become so greedy. Even thinking of selling my chanel bags.
I would feel that too if they hadn’t increased their prices almost 30% in the last couple years. It seems like they’re just correcting their own mistake
Lol sell your Chanel before it starts falling apart like mine has and it's only less than a year old! Meanwhile I have a Lulu from 2018 that looks pretty new
Don't respect them too much. They see the writing on the wall and you can best be sure the rest of the "brands" will follow. We are headed for the worse recession this country(America) has EVER seen. If you've purchased your bag thinking you can resell it down the line, well that's going away too. I never once purchased an accessory for its resale value. But if this is you, sell now!
They had to decrease the prices because they stopped doing sales and the bags are not selling well at full price. The regular customers who used to buy YSL during sales has no intention of paying full price. Glad I've stocked up on YSL , which is actually my favourite brand, during their sales. The items are classic and never age. I think that lots of people look down on YSL for some reason but if you dig in the history it's one of the pioneering luxury brands. Yves Saint Laurent was a genius, together with Gabrielle Chanel of course. 😉
No, LV and Hermes are pioneering luxury brands. They were founded in the 19th century. YSL was a fashion genius, no question, but it's not like he was known for his handbags. That's why YSL handbags will never have the prestige of some other brands. You're mostly paying for the brand name and not necessarily the best luxury as Tanner pointed out in his review.
I love YSL. Couldn’t believe their recent price increases. I think they found they couldn’t pull what LV and Chanel have been doing. And yes if we could get it on sale I wouldn’t even think of paying the inflated retail prices
Fully agree when i got into luxury bags 4-5 of my top picks were ysl .. the gowns have been fantastic in the og times and still are . Blazers are tdf too
@@longchampedthose brands did amazing utility goods (luggage and horse stuff ) for the rich and noble. Quite different from fashion pioneers like Yves Saint Laurent or Christian Dior who made the most stunning gowns and suits !!
Wonderful video Steph!! Very interesting that YSL has decreased their prices on some but increased on others. And I agree, they are being very strategic. It also gets people talking, which is free marketing for them as well!
Love your thoughts on what is happening in the luxury bag market. It’s refreshing that there are brands that are not following suit with the price increases. I think those brands are thinking about the long term and building relationships with new customers which will create return purchases in the future all while sustaining current loyal customers.
The brands are starting to realize that people are rethinking how they purchase. I sold 12 bags and kept 1 because it was a push present. I used to buy without thinking as long as I should have but now I am focusing more on retirements, savings, travel, and investments. I want to retire early and pay for my son's education. I am planning on purchasing at least 1 new bag next year as a celebration of a goal I am working on now and another one for another goal I am working to complete next year. However, with my travel plans I have now with my son it doesn't make sense for me to have so many bags like I had before. I will probably stop at 5 this time.
I totally agree with you. By lowering the price of an entry level bag, Saint Laurent is hoping that the people who buy the cheaper bag today are going to be the people who buy a more expensive bag 'tomorrow'. It will be very interesting to see what the other luxury brands choose to do re price point for the remainder of this year.
I agree with your analysis. I also think social media, especially Instagram & You Tube, introduced a luxury lifestyle to the masses, who then started buying high end luxury items that were previously not on their radar and the demand for these items skyrocketed. The resale market also made hard to get in store luxury items accessible to anyone who could afford it. If you’re Chanel or Hermes all you can do to remain exclusive is raise the prices and/or limit the quantity.
Yes you’re right. I’m currently doing some research on the history of the luxury market and houses and it’s fascinating. I’ll be sharing some insights soon. They call these brands ‘democratised luxury’ and the aim of many is to actually target the working / middle classes for the first time in history
Loved listening and reading the comments. You're the best! Plus the clothes, love your style. I know I always say this, but it's true. And the ladies are right, you are glowing. Have a wonderful week, and be safe!
They have had bad earnings and projections are down. Lower foot traffic. I think they assessed that they overpriced some goods. I think they are trying to drive volume.
The price decrease is great news. This would attract more clients like us who avoids ridiculous, unacceptable price hikes such as those in other luxury brands with high price tags and low quality
Same. I think they got too big for their britches. They are nowhere near my radar at their current prices, even with those couple bags they “reduced”, they are still at over inflated prices. Maybe if those small loulou’s came back down to reality around $2100 like they used to be. But nearing $3k, they’ve lost their minds
@@2CrazyFrenchies the same. They may now drop the prices, but since covid their prices skyrocketed!!! I lost any desire to buy one for 30% or more increase
I bought a small envelope black matte bag on sale at Neiman Marcus back in 2018 for $1300 it’s now $2750!!!!! I later bought a Medium envelope reg price for $1950 in 2020 that bag is now $3050 … safe to say I got my moneys worth still have them and love them but would never pay that price now.
Amazing video, love the information and how well it’s put together. These are the type of videos I enjoy, I own a business so I tend to look at most things this way. Lovely! I won’t buy the Lou Lou since it doesn’t retain value, even if it’s lowered in price, I rather spend more to get better quality/value. Mind you I do have 7 YSL bags in my collection as well as 7 chanel bags, I just try to add pieces that are unique. Thanks Steph, your videos are great!
I don’t pay super close attention to price changes, but I noticed Fendi seems relatively stable (I think the last price increase for mini peekaboo was 2 years ago), and actually the LV Noe bag was recently redesigned with added feet and the price decreased $100. Looks like the toy loulou decreased about $200 as well. I agree with your marketing thoughts. Thanks for the awesome vid!
I saw a table at Neiman Marcus full of YSL, Bottega Veneta, and Louboutin at 50% off. They're not going to put these prices online just yet but if you go into the stores you'll def see them.
Awesome video and analysis. I really enjoyed listening to you. I love YSL, and i will be buying the Icare next. it is on my wish list. I do agree with you regarding the YSL strategy.
That is great!!! Finally that may be realising that those price increases are unjustified at any given level and in the long run does not make sense. Hope with also inflation getting sorted things will become more reasonable
LOVE your videos, just gobbled up a bunch in a row. Love that you're direct, give us the vital deets only, and have topics that you know we want to hear about designer bags! Thank you from a new subscriber 😊
Very interesting content and perspective! I personally have money to spend on luxury bags etc. I like the look of the college bag in ysl. I only own Chanel, LV, and Fendi as of yet but might look at YSL in the future.
As a YSL girlie I am very happy the prices are going down I will be taking a trip to Europe I think for a little birthday haul for some pieces on my wishlist 😁😁😁 I’ve had my card holder for over 10 years and it still looks new whereas my LV Cles and key holders have been in for repair or are in such a bad state they are not worth repairing.
I agree with your thoughts. While I was always a Chanel buyer ( since the late 90’s), I am priced out of Chanel. These days I am loving Saint Lauren- my favorite , Sac du jour, especially Supple! But if the Chanel Grand Shopping Tote makes a return, I will spend to get another.
Enjoyed your analysis! Always enjoy your videos! I am just glad Icare gone up as I purchased it in 2022 :P I think this price decrease makes me respect the brand more
I feel like this price decrease is just a gimmick. It’s not that much less, doesn’t change the bulk of the money you need to spend on a bag. I don’t understand how $300 makes you change your mind on a $2500 bag. To me, if all of a sudden we are talking $1000 less then it makes a difference. That’s also why I don’t buy used, the prices are way too high. If I need to spend $2000 in a used bag I prefer to spend $3000 in a brand new one at the boutique with the experience that comes with it. I do have a lulu and a woc from YSL which I bought last year and this price decrease means not much to me. I really want their sac du jour and their manhattan bag
The Chanel WOC actually starts at $3,350. With a base shaper, it’s an excellent multi-purpose bag but with its $3,700 after tax price tag, it’s not marketed for the masses to afford. Great video as always, Steph!
It is also to target the buyer of the vintage/pre-loved pieces from YSL itself or Chanel, LV, Hermes. They can get new for the price of pre-loved. When the market is unpredictable you try to strengthen the share. It's a red ocean strategy but when the overall market growth stagnates this is going to happen. I have been a real estate pricing strategist.
I think designers might be getting wise to the impact of the preloved market. There isn’t the market for paying new prices in the current climate when you can pick up some amazing preloved bags
Quality, I bought a medium puffer in cream lamb leather last year in Brown Thomas Dublin. After a week the leather came off all four corners and peeled badly; Google told me this was happening worldwide. This hasn’t happened with my Chanel 19 lamb YSL HQ wouldn’t exchange the bag, Brown Thomas did as I’ve a good purchase history with Chanel YSL & Gucci and I choose a 5 a 7. It’s put me off buying from YSL and I’m going to sell my 5 a 7
I think saint laurent aren't afraid to experiment with their pricing. There was a time at the start of 2022 in singapore where the price of the small loulou breached the SGD4000 mark (which meant a 30% increase from 2020 prices), but I think the sticker shock was so great that they swiftly put it back down to SGD3600. Seems to me that they aren't afraid of pegging their entry tier pricing to market conditions, which is nice because the pricing of the bags won't run away and suddenly become inaccessible overnight (unlike chanel, where no matter how hard I work, the price of a medium classic flap has always managed to outpace my monthly income 😅)
I am so excited to hear this and hope prices hold steady for my European visit In September. Planning on going to outlets in either Paris, Milan or Florence. $aving$!!
Hey Steph! So I have plenty of luxury bags and always loved the Loulou and the College bag but my husband was always insanely underwhelmed by them so I never got it at the end. He loved Tanner’s review and was happy that he was right 🤣 I still love them though and maybe finally will purchase one - I love colours so it has to be a colourful one. Hopefully the price decrease doesn’t mean they are going bust 🤞🏼
Been eyeing LOU LOU in medium for couple of months, and almost treated myself on a trip to Paris the other week. To my pleasant surprise learnt about price drop from sales associate at Selfridges today. It's a classic ecstatically pleasing bag that will last and I absolutely adore YSL!! (my 2nd bag form them)
Hmmm… I think Saint Laurent quality can be quite poor for the cost. I’m happy to hear they are decreasing the price especially since they seem to be lowering their quality in production. LV, Dior, Goyard, and others seem to be better options in my experience.
I hadn’t checked but I thought they had decreased from memory. I’m happy this is the case and would buy more from them !!! I already have a few YSL pieces. Yay
I have a YSL Le Carré bag with canvas and black trim. It looks like YSL doesn’t sell Le Carré online anymore and no reseller has my color of bag. Do you think it would be worth to keep? Like it potentially might become a “rare” bag? Thanks!!
I agree with your marketing thoughts, makes sense. YSL doesn’t particularly appeal to me, except the iCare. There seem to be a fair number of capucines going through the auctions in Japan.
I have the small LouLou flap bag Matelasse in natural tan and its quality is amazing it's one of my fav. I love the brand I have a few pieces from them and the quality is not at all mediocre.
Great content. Thank you. I sold all of my CHANEL bags in November- February 2023/2024 and am super satisfied with 5 Hermès bags in my collection. I remember selling all my LV bags in 2014 to help fund my start-up. I also remember buying the never-full when it was released in 2008 at 375 euros.
I used to love YSL and wanting to build a YSL collection. But the service was so bad during my first visit. It could be just the particular SA or the store.
I’ve noticed that Louis Vuitton “quietly” decreases the prices on certain items often. People just aren’t aware of it. I think it’s great that YSL has done the same. Especially because the Lou Lou has been one of their most popular bags and their sales dropped drastically because of the huge price markups.
They simply finally woke-up and saw sales was in decline and no one is buying anything at the moment ., people buy more pre-loved right now more then ever So they decided to decrease by little their price $ to « survive » and brings sales IN.
I really did see suche price devrease. on November bought one Black Cassandra in Oslo at 1200 euros (same price in Paris) and I’ve just bought one beige in Italy at 1290 euros.
I used to love them, but they did multiple price increases in 2023 and they completely lost me. Love the history of the house - Yves was incredible. Not surprised that greed is hitting them hard.
I will never order YSL again. I ordered and received an uptown clutch, and it was for a wedding so I didn’t even really take it out until the wedding. It smelled terrible! It smelled like marijuana or a skunk or something terrible. Anyway it was past the return time, and they didn’t even fix it. Thankfully it wasn’t too expensive, like $725 but still. I can’t use it at all. The more you take it out and move it around the more horrible it smells, and I ordered it directly from YSL. I’ve tried everything to get the smell out but I can’t. So I’m so unimpressed with them and their customer service. Never again.
I actually aim to get my first ysl which is the manhattan shoulder bag. but i cant seem to remember their old price of the manhattan bag after their current decrease.
I have a protective spray that I put on the bag to help keep it waterproof. I'm very careful with colour transfer. I'll be sharing more on the waterproof protector soon as it's a product I've been using for over a year and will be available for use soon
It makes me more interested in this brand 😍 I mean I was already interested in this brand before but now I’m putting all my energy and money towards YSL and give up on Chanel it’s just to out of range 😍🥰
YSL had to make a price adjustment due to the price gap between London and Paris. For some bags, the gap is around £400! Euro to Pound difference + Tax back
YSL may have lowered the prices on a few bags bc they are competing with the secondhand market. If a consumer goes to purchases a Lulu and the price difference is drastic they may easily go with a gently used version.
I’ll probably never buy a Saint Laurent bag at full price. I bought my large envelope bag for around $1800 on Fashionphile and it was in perfect condition. I did buy my Saint Laurent wallet directly from the store for around $650 but I think it was worth it because I’ve used it every day since then.
I know me too! Luckily I got all of mine at the lower prices so it hasn't stung me too bad but frustrating for anyone who did get one at a higher price point.

Hopefully the price decrease doesn’t mean they are going bust 🤞🏼
Thanks Steph for the info it 's not so much though but at least there is a decrease in their current Price, nice Hair msn Steph i like it.
Just noticed in Australia price has decreased too on the small lou👏🏻
Your hair looks GREAT!!!!
Thank you!!
$300 Chile Please that isn't enough in this economy
Youre hair look so great like that. Beautiful change. ❤
Thank you! It's a little clip on fringe from beauty works
Love your new look! Center part suits you
This is a really interesting strategy so I will be sitting back and seeing what happens. It could swing either way in my opinion
Steph I am so so so sorry I am late because I was not well and you really really made my day you are my truly truly inspiration🥹🩷✨😭
Yay
Great video. I wonder if they gonna do “sales” again 😅
Very interesting explanation! ❤
I have a YSL Le Carré bag with canvas and black trim. It looks like YSL doesn’t sell Le Carré online anymore and no reseller has my color of bag. Do you think it would be worth to keep? Like it potentially might become a “rare” bag?
Thanks!!
I have the medium cassandra quilted nwt never used i feel it looks too fancy for me although beautiful. Is it out of style?
I agree with your marketing thoughts, makes sense.
YSL doesn’t particularly appeal to me, except the iCare.
There seem to be a fair number of capucines going through the auctions in Japan.
In 2018 I bought my medium loulou for $1900. Crazy how the price grew to $2900 and for small, medium is probably more.
I think it’s a great strategy. I hope others either hold steady or reduce. I recognize there is an element of exclusivity.
There are news articles about the Kering’s group high revenue decline in 2023 so it’s the reason for ysl to reduce prices.
I’ve noticed that Louis Vuitton “quietly” decreases the prices on certain items often. People just aren’t aware of it. I think it’s great that YSL has done the same. Especially because the Lou Lou has been one of their most popular bags and their sales dropped drastically because of the huge price markups.
Which LV bags have you noticed decrease out of interest? Yeah it's nice to see the decreases
Love the new hair
They simply finally woke-up and saw sales was in decline and no one is buying anything at the moment ., people buy more pre-loved right now more then ever So they decided to decrease by little their price $ to « survive » and brings sales IN.
I really did see suche price devrease. on November bought one Black Cassandra in Oslo at 1200 euros (same price in Paris) and I’ve just bought one beige in Italy at 1290 euros.
That was their first mistake imo, renaming the brand.
You sound like a Karen. I don't trust your conplaint. 😂😂😂😂
I actually aim to get my first ysl which is the manhattan shoulder bag. but i cant seem to remember their old price of the manhattan bag after their current decrease.
Question- how do you take care of your suede bag against color transfer? Thanks
I have a protective spray that I put on the bag to help keep it waterproof. I'm very careful with colour transfer. I'll be sharing more on the waterproof protector soon as it's a product I've been using for over a year and will be available for use soon
@@Handbagholic Hi all, any way to protect vernis leather from color transfer? 🙏
It makes me more interested in this brand 😍 I mean I was already interested in this brand before but now I’m putting all my energy and money towards YSL and give up on Chanel it’s just to out of range 😍🥰
i agree! You look amazing ! So much younger ❤️
Good move. Your cardigan is stunning please can you tell me the make? Thanks
There is a link to it and discount code in the description 💖 it’s so cute highly recommend
@@Handbagholic thank you x
YSL had to make a price adjustment due to the price gap between London and Paris. For some bags, the gap is around £400! Euro to Pound difference + Tax back
Not here in Japan though 😢 yet the prices increases more
YSL may have lowered the prices on a few bags bc they are competing with the secondhand market.
Oooo i would be annoyed if I paid the higher price 😅😂
I know me too! Luckily I got all of mine at the lower prices so it hasn't stung me too bad but frustrating for anyone who did get one at a higher price point.
*immediately adding that cardigan to my cart 😂 😅 thanks..
haha I've hardly taken mine off since it arrived! So cute, very Chanel vibes
Would you recommend buying a vintage chanel or a new ysl as a beginner?
Steph, love the new hair ❤
Thank you!
love this necklaces you are wearing please share brand
Thank you! I’ve put links in the video description to them 💖
At today’s cost for LV or Chanel, if you have access you’re better off getting an Hermes.
