Had an aura about him that only true sporting champions possess. I remember Damien Martyn told a funny story how he was relaxing having a beer in a small town pub after one of these tests and was suddenly recognised, but everyone gathering around him wanted him to talk about Warne and what he's like. Laughing as he said a bloke with a 50odd test average was too boring and just didnt warrant attention by comparison to Warne.
That team was chock full of absolute legends but Warne was the undisputed king of world cricket. His status and legend will live on forever.

The sight of him back in the day was just something special. Crowd genuinely went quiet at every venue when he started his walk-in to bowl. You expected something to happen every ball. His mind games with the batsmen and his groans and grunts trying to indicate "I'm getting closer" to the batsman, even on just rudimentary block shots, to get into their head. He took so many wickets and just loved taking them, always celebrating big if he felt like it. So blessed to have watched his whole career, we all miss him. ❤‍🩹

I feel so lucky to have grown up watching peak Warne. He was a once in a lifetime artist who single-handedly revived a dying art form, at least in Australia. So many kids tried to be the next Warne, none of them came even close, in terms of his mastery of flight, turn, dip, bounce, creativity, guile. Zampa is good at what he does. Rashid Khan is very good. But I miss the days of real leg spin test spells, of see-sawing battles between bat and ball about survival, where balls are pitched way out past leg stump, only to go whizzing by the off stump bail! Rest In Peace Warnie.

This video has so many legendary faces. McGrath, Hayden, Gilly, Ponting, Lee and all. And to be a legend amongst all these legends takes some magic. Magical player.
(I have no idea how England won this!)

Magnificent. He just loved the big stage. He owned the big stage. I truly miss this standard of cricket. That legendary team lifted standards all over the world, with most of the top nations having a number of great players. Wonderful performance from England to beat them.
Incredible control and variation, and amazing how many wickets came from those straight balls a fraction quicker. Some wonderful catching from Hayden Ponting and Gilchrist as well. Such a massive loss to the sporting world. He was the true king and the ultimate match winner.
