My headcanon is that the guy who made up this exam question actually always wanted to write a book but never did so now he just used this opportunity to come up with an exam question to reveal the entire plot of his never published story. Change my mind.
I just love the fact the 2 of Bob's girlfriends are literally named Mary & Jane and nobody picked up on that. Still no idea how Sarah fits into the story though.
Based on the beginning, I assumed Carol was going to give Bob money three times with some specific conditions pertaining to each of the girlfriends that would match their names (which I missed at the beginning) - y'know, don't wed Mary, don't start a flower shop with Rose, and don't get into multi-level marketing with Pyhrra Mid, or something

From my understanding, the answer is specifically in context of breach of contract, since that's what the question asks for. The money could not be recovered for breach of contract, but could probably be recovered for fraud, or something else

In other words, Carol doesn't know it's for an illegal substance (if it can even be assumed to be illegal; I didn't hear it in the question). Why could Carol not recover the 3k from Bob, assuming the 3k for 3k exchange was agreed on in writing?
Wait, hold on; if I understand correctly, Carol didn't know that Bob was going to use the money to buy drugs and gave it to him under the assumption that it was something legal, but that still means she can't get the money back?
