I think Sophia and Presley are immensely talented and I am sure they have worked very hard but that talent and hard work were supported by access to lessons and teachers and classes, transportation or the ability to uproot and move to NYC, auditions, money for agents, money for proper audition clothes, supportive and available parents/guardians, I could go on and on. I work for a youth theatre with a competitive teen program and I see first hand how those with more privilege get further ahead than others. I mean look at all the kids who win Jimmy Awards and go on to star on Broadway. Yes, they are talented and have worked hard but most of them come from expensive private schools or performing arts schools. Lower income/Title I schools barely have arts programming, let alone the ability to qualify to be a participating Jimmy Awards school. Privilege and the access to opportunity are huge factors in success, and I strive to make art education more equitable and a reality for all students, no matter what zip code they were born into.
Wow, getting her big break on Broadway while Sophia is gone has really improved her singing hasn't it? She was always heckin amazing but her belting is getting so much better and her singing sounds so much more her own and a bit mature now then it did in older videos. Livi very true! I just saw Will Blum as Beetlejuice and he has his own quirky take on it while still capturing the ESSENCE (see what I did there) of the character. Presley was also phenomenal!
I like how she sings it her, she has definitely improved on this song from when she was 15. When she originally sung it I didn't exactly like how she sung it like a girl scout. She plays the girl scout role main, and so it sounded like the girl scout became a goth teen who doesn't molest people. All im sayin is here she actually sounds like an angry gothy mourning teen over her mom really than having the baby girlscout voice. I love it.
i absolutely adore the "sweetness" presley brings into her voice when lydia is talking more directly to her mom and reminiscing, it shows how lydia was happier with her mom and the hope lydia is still holding onto at those points. and then when that sweetness starts to break down its when lydia wont quite admit that her mom's gone but she is coming to realize the truth and is more bitter/gruff with her voice n belts more. the progression is so good, and not to even mention the change in voice when talking about her dad- when mocking him (00:49) she still sounds pleasing to the ear but also like "annoying" like she is supposed to by being more nasally. then when lydia is responding to her dad presley brings in more sass and frustration, its all soso good!!
I sing this every day and I still sound like a dying animal. My whole family is pushing me to go get vocal lessons cuz I live singing and my music teacher said I have potential but I’m WAY to shy.

She has so much better technique than Sophia, I feel like Sophia has really strained her voice over the past year or so because of her unhealthy technique but Presley knows how to belt in a similar way without straining her voice and it’s incredible to watch. She’s literally my age and so fucking talented I love it 🤗
she has said that she only does the raspy tone in special performances so technically she’s not doing it all the time and you only see her doing it because that’s all people record in the theater and your not supposed to record so I don’t know how they got away with that if look at a compilation of her singing in the musical you’ll see that she sometimes doesn’t do the raspy tone as I’ve said before
She is totally coming into her own! I’m not a vocal coach but to my ear it seems like she’s making really smart vocal choices to preserve those vocal chords!

Her voice is so high and angelic with her slightly older appearance plays into her age ranging from 14 to 18 and it just works so well with Lydia. I hope they switch up her outfit in little ways throughout the show. A cute hoodie over the classic dress or that striped beanie she has after befriending beetlejuice would just be a god sent!
I feel like this song is supposed to more angry than peppy which, as much as I love her, is the way Presley is singing it in this. Sophia brings kind of that darker, mournful vibe to this song and that’s what I love about this song. Lydia is frustrated with her father, she’s mourning the death of her mother and she is unable find any reason to keep living. There are so many emotions going through Lydia’s head so everything is chaos and I can hear that more in Sophia’s voice. They are both so incredibly talented but I prefer Sophia’s Lydia. I also wish I could sing like them.
