I'm 65 too,but I wasn't a surfer or even a soldier...But I can play and sing this song in my guitar, specially when I am drunk. We are getting old my friend, but I'm pretty sure Neil Young never will....At least..........4 us.Greetings from São Paulo.
Well I'm 64 now and this is one of my favorite songs by Neil. I love his songs in this vein. I was an Airman in the Air Force, but it was peace time, just missed the Viet Nam War, and I want to thank everybody who went to Nam in my place. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Long may YOU run.
This song takes place in my father's hometown, just after the Trans Canada hwy opened. We visited often my grand mother and two aunts at their store in Blind River. I've often thought the car ended up at 1 of the 2 scrap yards , one to the east well out of town and one just to the west along the ACR tracks that run alongside the hwy. McFaddens mill, logging were the bigger employers in the 50' and 60's, all very quiet now. So many around the world love this song, for so many different reasons. Great song writing is timeless.
My best guess is the song refers to about 1962 or so just after the Trans Canada hwy opened along Lake Superior. Neil lived and performed Thunder Bay for a while before heading to Toronto.Long May You Run", peaked at #71 on the UK singles chart.[5] The song was an elegy for Neil Young's first car (which he nicknamed "Mort"[6]), a 1948 Buick Roadmaster hearse that died in 1962 when its transmission blew in Blind River, Ontario.[@@derekbone6803
Neil's voice is soul deep can listen to him for hours and hours like I did in the 70s and 80s sounds just as good in 24now I'm 61 and still as layed back as then
From Bill Graham's, Steve's & Melissa's Memorial concert at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park: Laughter, Love & Music 11-3-1991 I'm glad I made it. I still get emotional when I hear the music, from that day. I can only imagine what it must been like for all of there friends, that played on that day. I had no idea there was a film. I would love a dvd copy if it's available. Who knew barely 4 years later, we would all be gathering again, for Jerry.
Man you aren’t lying. I went to bed one night, as a 28 year old and woke up a 63-year-old man the are kids are going grown and gone, And the overtime and money Was all for nothing . Neil's beloved Pontiac hearse, "Mort" (a.k.a. "Mortimer Hearseburg"), was the inspiration for this song. Neil drove "Mort" from Toronto to Los Angeles, where he met Stephen Stills and formed Buffalo Springfield. Neil was in Canada driving to Sudbury when 'Mort' broke down in Blind River, June 1965. (Which is contradictory to the lyrics; "well it was back in Blind River, in 1962, when I last saw you alive").
This song takes place in my father's hometown, just after the Trans Canada hwy opened. We visited often my grand mother and two aunts at their store in Blind River. Long May You Run was a pretty good album by Neil Young. In some ways it was sort of a Buffalo Springfield reunion, but credited to the Stills/Young Band. Neil Young and Stephen Stills are also great guitarists: I loved their dueling solos in Buffalo Springfield.
Yes. But the song is always sad. Neil just discarded his car that served him for a long long time before he even became famous. That car was always in bad shape as he can not afford new cars yet..so it is sad, poetic and poignant
Crosby , Stills , Nash , Young , Dave , Dee , Dozy , Beaky , Mick , Titch , Simon , Garfunkel , Peter , Paul , Mary , John , Paul , Ring & Georgeo Band .
That was before Neil kicked Crosby's ass, because he gave very rude commentaries about Darryl Hannah. Anyway, Neil doesn't need them and an occasional reunion with Stills on one of his concerts will do. Long may you run Neil!
My brother always said when he was 10 , that C S N was a better band without Neil Young and I always said as a 7 year old that Neil was the best member. Looking at this band now some 50 years latter , I would of hated to be the sound engineer cutting records for CSN and Y because Neil is a natural individual stylist . Willie Nelson is another individual with his own sound . And maybe it was this , me and my brother Argued about all those years ago. They made being 7 years old cool.
What you say about Neil being more of an individual stylist is true, but as a sound engineer and producer it's stimulating and exciting to make the elements of CSN&Y work in a recording.
It appeared to me that he was waving back the camera guy. Neil’s always been very tetchy about being filmed at concerts where it’s not on his terms. At Woodstock you don’t see any shots of him as apparently he insisted he’d only play if there was no footage recorded of him. Hence some people mistake that it was only CSN that played, rather than CSNY.
Lotta people hated Bill cause he was the down and dirty bottom line guy in the idealistic world of rock.Took a special Grace to pull that off.Still miss playing football on New Year's at Kaisers having to block Bill.He didn't pay shot but I don't know anybody who wasn't proud as hell to work for him.
Try not to worry. I'm 65, an ex surfer and rockn roller who likes Creedence and all the good stuff!!# Was a soldier too!
long may you run, troop...

Ciao,David, le tue parole e tue musiche resteranno per sempre, per sempre.
Was so lucky to see CSN&Y at Woodstock as a 16 year old visitor from the Netherlands, they and their music have never left me since
Neil Young was not at Woodstock.
@@saturdaysierrasky9548yes he was, but he didn’t want to be filmed. Sat a little beside the group!! Just how Neil can be🤷🏼♀️
Extra fantastic !!!! Oh my , time machine please !!! God I long for yesteryears !!!!!

God given talent. Beautiful voice. Long may you run.
Watched this, noticed the date - 30 years ago. I was there with a friend long since dead. Time goes so fast.
Neil and Crazy 🐎!. The bomb!!
So many beautiful memories! Peace everone!❤

Simple and beautiful song

Love this!
Another fine video and performance from Neil, from The Stills-Young Band album of the same name from Sept '76.
I’m 71. I found lots to do fixing your stormy weather.
love it
Love you Neil 😍
Neil was in full control.....
He didn't let Stephen do a lead solo.
If it was me i would've said "Hey man do the fuckin' song alone!
Neil's a one man band.
Yes, he is.
Super

awsome

i bet Cros and Stills put a formidable dent in the catering table after this gig!

Why didn't the other three sing the "Oh, Caroline, no" harmony line? Who arranged this listless version? Bummer, man.

Love those guys I love that song, but this performance sounds like they just phoned it in.
I beleive anything can happen, come out of a bad situation into a good one, like I believe that Lynard Skynard will Tour with Neil Young soon!
😂😂😂2022 : Nothing so far!
Neil did not like the cameraman
I use to think he was singing about a friend or something. lol
Was he waving the cameras back?
probably the control volume was loud and sign to down
It appeared to me that he was waving back the camera guy. Neil’s always been very tetchy about being filmed at concerts where it’s not on his terms. More likely monitor speaker was way too loud. Points and motions to bring it down.
@@SeadartVSG No, it was definitely the camera guy he was waving back. Same thing happened at Woodstock and why he doesn't appear in the film.
Yes.
It was only an old hearse.
Great song though.
Yes, great song. Don't you think Neil would have cherished the old hearse ?
Crosby looks like a dwarf from LOTR
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young is All ways better WITHOUT Crosby, Stills and Nash!
Crikey, talk about body language! Were they even speaking to each other?
Ikr looks like they arent liking eachother much
Could Crosby and Nash act any more bored?
THAT'S HOW POOR IT GETS ... OUTSIDE OF THE STUDIO.
