Great video! I am however a little saddened by the missed pun in the title. It should have been "How fast did Usain bolt?"

His acceleration comes when he was fully upright. Shoulders are square with his hips, which make his kicks propel him faster than anyone in that race.

I'm guessing Eddie has read Steven Strogatz's new book Infinite Powers. He uses the same example to introduce calculus.

Differentiation is basically finding the Individual Components (IC) of the Whole and not restricted to finding the velocity.
Integration is finding the Whole given the ICs and not restricted to finding the Area.
So its all about ICs and the Whole and not just speed and areas.

That was just his average speed, his peak speed was 40+ kmph. And if he wanted to make a record he would have run faster instead of celebrating before reaching the finish line

Duh...that's what Mr Woo is explaining--the speed at ANY instant or place (delta time tending to zero) is not the same as average speed.

And to think his overall top speed would be higher than that cause of course your dealing with averages in this case. Which is why it's good that you point out that his 150m race gave him a faster 100m time. Think it would give people an insight behind the magic of numbers I feel.

I think he'll come back to that in part 2 of the series, as calculus is the toolbox for dealing with this kind of mathematical problems.
