An elegant alto solo by a very accomplished musician wedded with one of the best jazz bands on the planet. Great performance Karolina and the crew of the WDR Bigband.
The gorgeous arrangement is by Michael Abene, and Karolina soloes incredibly beautiful, getting at times a tenor sound out of her alto.
Her technique is world class, but that tone is out of this world.....

Another marvelous treatment by Karolina Strassmayer. Her lower octave on the first chorus sounds much like a tenor. Lovely sub tone work! I don’t have anymore platitudes I can give her playing. Her playing is often like the late Phil Woods. Her playing is simply magnificent!

To get a sub tone like hers, which is impressive, open your throat, use a relaxed embouchure and keep a constant stream of air moving. Having a good reed doesn't hurt, either!

Never played this but its a beautiful tune. Wish she wasnt reading it always spoils it for me.
To timmo491: I suspect she is reading the alto orchestra part to know what the band is doing and when she should be playing. Not something she might play. She is too great a jazz musician to be playing a written out solo. She is improvising her part except when she is playing with the orchestra.
