In today's baseball sports talk video, the Breaker Bros Sammy and Omar discuss why Major League Baseball does not have more two-way superstar players like Shohei Ohtani. We go into detail as to how making players specifically choose either pitching or fielding/hitting during the early stages of their development may limit the amount of talented players who could also be two-way superstars in Major League Baseball like Shohei Ohtani. Do you think the MLB could have more two-way stars if the development was more encouraged throughout their entire careers, or is it simply too difficult to do and Shohei Ohtani is the only capable player in modern times?

Ohtani not better than babe is probably the funniest part of this entire segment

How about we let Ohtani win one World Series Championship before we start putting him in the GOAT conversation. 🤔

@@BreakerBrosBaseball he is the goat. Babe wouldn’t make college right now.

Never heard of a GOAT in any other professional sport with ZERO championships on their resume 🤔

@@BreakerBrosBaseball he has the wbc. Also some people consider bonds the goat, also no championships. Baseball isn’t an individual sport. Amazing you don’t know that

The first thing about Ohtani is that he pitches right-handed and bats left-handed. By doing so he balances his body TORQUE. I believe that if someone bats and pitches one-sided only, the body eventually will give out earlier. Second, Ohtani work ethics play a major role, he is so devoted to baseball since Japanese baseball BOOTCAMP. Third, if you follow his lifestyle you will notice that money is second to him. Finally about the Babe Ruth comparison: If you time travel Ohtani to the Babe Ruth Era, what record-breaking will Ohtany have based on his physical capability. Today athletes are stronger, faster, and have more variety of pitches.

Awesome thoughts here! Japan is definitely great at player development and it seems like they are even getting better with more and more highly talented players coming to the MLB becoming superstars. Appreciate the insight and you checking out the video! 😎

I also think $700M is because of his marketing powers, if someone else wants $700M they would probably need to be a two-way player and either Korean or Japanese.

Good point! But why can't we develop more two-way players from the USA? Why do they always have to come from other countries? 🤔

I think they do try, the Giants have Crawford and Eldridge, but I think they gave up on that.

So stupid. If everyone could do it they would. Who doesn’t want 700M?

$700M sure sounds sweet! Maybe MLB teams don't want more home grown 2-way players so they don't have to pay the players close to a billion dollars more often 💰

These guys are so reaching so hard to disparage Ohtani’s ability. The same old narrative. If a player has elite abilities on both sides, there be more. Ohtani is the Pioneer- there is nobody like him in any sport.

We mentioned that we really like watching Ohtani play and are happy that his stardom brings attention to the game of baseball. We just wonder whether he's the only player on planet earth that's able to pitch and hit at the Major League level. Maybe he is and every other baseball player in the world are only athletic enough to focus on one side of the baseball. 🤷‍♂️
