Ditto - Sadly, though the time shall arrive soon, _if it hasn't already_ that you will be reminded/come to the realization that all of the forces (burgeoning contemporaneously?) that were at work perverting the game - around the time of your departure from its 'fan base' - have now only grown more powerful, out-of-touch and sinister in the drive to completely destroy it. That is/was the irresistible allure of Ohtani because he embodies all that stands in opposition to the tyrannical rule of the "Sabermetrics/Analytics Gurus" and their insanely, twisted, defeatist, anti-competitive approach to sport. Now, you must find yourself wallowing once again in this slimy world of endless chatter over grotesquely bloated $400 million contracts and who's next in line to sell their soul for the promise of obscene wealth, mind-numbingly obsessive, silly preoccupation with "pitch-counts" and myriad other mostly 'meaningless' indicators of nothing infecting play on the diamond. Ohtani brought (back to the game) a bit of the free-wheeling spirit that has been sucked out of all "big-time" professional sports in our sick society due to the usual culprits i.e., greed, misplaced values etc. It's only a matter of time, sadly and tragically, before this merciless sickness fully infects Ohtani's thinking and attitude; finally exacting its inevitable toll. To wit: They've convinced the poor man that he's incapable of finishing a start (he hasn't a complete-game to his name) and mustn't dare continue to entertain the notion of playing the field on days that he doesn't take to the mound - In fact, even you have probably begun to ' sip on the Kool-Aid' .

Also, he is good-looking and big. Such are hero elements. His behavior shows that he has a kind heart with an adorable personality. On top of that, we see him loving more baseball than making money, unlike other greedy athletes.

I am no way in trying to compare him to the players that I grew up watching in the 90s, but Shohei is dominant on the mound like one of the trios of Braves starters (Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz), has a smooth batting stroke for a power like Ken Griffey Jr., and he has a speed to steal bases and also turn what can be a single into a double like Rickey Henderson. Shohei is doing almost everything at a high level, and there hasn't been a player like this ever. Shohei is the reason to watch baseball.

  • @satoshiwatanabe2840

Yes, Ohtani can win both. But there are a couple of pitchers doing better than him, so Cy Young will depend on the second half. As far as MVP is concerned, there are no discussions. VALUABLE means what it means. Ohtani is the MVP. He is the face of MLB.

Making baseball exciting is understatement, the fun to see this young man do his thing as a batter is one thing but to watch a game he is pitching is awesome. The enjoyment of a great batter being strike out is amazing. The real question is how long can he do both and what will he become, a batter that hits home runs or a strick - out master of all time? For many let’s enjoy watching baseball sitting on the edge of the seat.
