    I mean, who in the modern era will ever beat Babe Ruth's WAR? Ruth was playing in a time with half the number of teams and he never played against Black, Latin, or Asian players that are completely specialized. We are in an era where a pitcher can throw 105mph and balls are being hit the furthest they have ever been hit. They compare Ohtani to Ruth because these are the only two players in history to be elite two-ways. And Ohtani already surpassed Ruth in Ks on the mound. Most of Ruth's WAR is after he gave up being a two-way player which he only did for a season and a half. C'mon guys.

      what people also fail to mention is baseball was just a past time for the folks in that era. it was pickup ball that grabbed anyone off the streets to play. in this day and age kids are bred the moment they can hold a bat and do it all their lives and only a small percentage even make it to the mlb. people who do not take that into consideration are just idiots or just bias. real talk here.

      @BreakerBrosBaseball  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great perspective! Definitely see where you are coming from, but you don't think Ruth can hit 105mph? That's an insult to the players from back in the day thinking they can't hit the pitchers today. Ruth faced Hall of Famers Lefty Grove, Walter Johnson, etc. Were they bums? Just because we see non-stop media coverage about today's players doesn't make them pound for pound better than previous generations ball players. Also, Ruth likely would have kept being a two way player if it weren't for the fact that he hit home runs at a historic clip so it was foolish not to make him only focus on batting. Ohtani passing Ruth in K's isn't that impressive as hitters routinely strike out over 200 times per season nowadays and it still lands you 10+ year contracts.

    • @BreakerBrosBaseball
      @BreakerBrosBaseball  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just a past time pickup ball really? Sounds like they weren't really even trying. Tell that to Cy young who threw 749 complete games or Babe Ruth with hit 714 home runs. Not fair to say they were just doing it for giggles with that kind of effort.

    • @icekangz817

      @BreakerBrosBaseball the babe can definitely hit in this Era but we won't know how he will pitch against the modern hitters. Imagine this, if you put judge back in that Era I'm guessing he's hitting 100 bombs in a season. Any power hitters in this era would average 50 bombs back then. The main point is they had to get mechanics, military folks, people working a real job to go play. The modern day Era have kids built for the game.

      Well to be fair, Babe Ruth's bat weighed 44.6 ounces, which is much heavier than any bat used today. In 2023, most MLB bats don't come close to Ruth's bat weight. The average bat today weighs around 32 ounces. 💪🏻

      Understood. So if Ohtani is one of the greatest the way the media covers him why doesn't he play a position on the field whenever he can't pitch due to injury. Only being a DH when he doesn't pitch is his choice . He can get his out there and put a glove on and earn the $700 million by playing some defense too. That would help bump his war up a lot unless he sucks in the field. LOL

    Is he overrated? Maybe....whats really annoying is that hes almost a cult of personality at this point. People criticize players in other sports for signing with super teams to try and guarantee a ring, but shohei somehow is free from that criticism. Its also annoying how everyone hated the 90s yankees for supposedly buying rings(even though they drafted and developed their core) but everybody is okay with la doing it.

    when ohtani is doing both he is underrated. since he is just a hitter for at least a year then he might not be in the same league as other hitters, but we shall see. he seemed to run out of gas as a hitter when he was doing both so lets see how he does just hitting and not having to carry the whole damn team on his back. no bias, just trying to be honest.

      Great points here! Signing such a massive contract doesn't guarantee anything. He was on the same team with Trout (two of the best MLB players) for years and we saw the results that had with the Angels. His promotion is definitely worth the money, but as far as on field play the hype has gotten out of control for primarily a DH who pitches from time to time whenever he's not injured.

    He's not overrated. He's a superstar the likes we have never seen before. But now that's he with the Dodgers, he's gotta show that he can lead the team to win the World Series like he did with Japan in the WBC.
    He can't do what he did with the Angels. Produce awesome numbers but year after year his team is pretty much out of the playoffs in July.
    Right now, Ohtani is kinda like Jokic pre-NBA title. 2 MVPs, multiple All-star selections, but no postseason success (I know Jokic did help lead the Nuggets to the Conference Finals in 2020 but outside that he kept getting bounced early. (Note, I know MPJ and Murray were injured for some of those postseasons)).
    If he doesn't help the Dodgers win the World Series, he's possibly gonna end up like what James Harden is currently. An all-time great player but comes up small in the postseason.

      @BreakerBrosBaseball  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great points here! Awesome comparison to Jokic as well. We agree that Ohtani is a superstar player and to be put on the level of the GOATs he'll need to start getting some rings on those fingers quick like Jokic was able to do, which took him to another level in terms of stardom and his place as one of the best big men of all-time winning championships. It didn't work out with the Angels and Trout, but maybe the Dodgers will be the team to make it happen for him.🤞

    If you guys know anything about baseball, WAR goes bit accurately rate a DH. Stop using WAR to grade a DH. Also the 2024 rating , that’s low rating. Ohtani will be the first ever 50 HR and 40 stolen bases!!

    • @BreakerBrosBaseball
      @BreakerBrosBaseball  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So DH's should get a pass on WAR because they don't want/or can't play the field? When he can't pitch because of injury, why doesn't he grab a glove and play a position on the field? He's getting paid $700 million. That should be enough for him to learn a position and earn that pay check when he's not batting or pitching. 😂
      Let's see about that 50HR and 40 SB season! Once these players sign massive contracts, you tend to see the teams want them running a lot less to prevent injuries over the long term to protect their investment (similar to Mike Trout after he signed his big extension).

    You two are a couple of clowns. How the hell would you compare Shohei Ohtani's numbers to the numbers of Babe Ruth's? Honestly, if Shohei Ohtani played against AAA guys (if you compare to Ruth's competition), Ohanti's WAR would be a million. We all know Ohtani is the much better player than Ruth. He's not the hitter Bonds is but how many innings has Bonds pitched?
    The very least you could do is add his WAR in Japan to his current WAR in the USA and even that is insulting Ohtani when comparing him to Babe Ruth. Ohtani is one of a kind and is the best two way player ever!

    As he gets older I’m going to say he will have a lot of injuries. Japanese players have always been injury prone due to being overworked and over practiced throughout their playing time in their high school days. Especially pitchers throwing way too many pitches when they are young.
