I started with a 20 year old Volvo 240GL with half a million km (engine was 100000km actually after repairs), kept it for years, then sold it for the engine... Malfunctioning overdrive was a pain in the ass (not the one from Star wars... just a silly button to get to 5th gear) but it did the job.
