Appreciate the steady non-hand held camera angles. My grill is an E-320. Bought the kit, thanks for the tutorial.

Two years ago, the igniter of our grill stopped working and we ordered a replacement. Once we got it, my mom asked me to replace it, but I told her I didn't know how. She told me to look it up on TH-cam, because you can find any solution to any problem on TH-cam. Sure enough, this was the first result, and it worked out very well. Your instructions were precise yet easy to understand. After watching, I was able to change it easily. It still works well to this day. I just want to thank you for the help. Very well done.

No way! I had no idea there was a battery in the igniter button. I’ve been lighting mine with a flame for years once it stopped working. Watched your video, changed the battery and it works!! Thanks Steve!!

Nearly nine years later based on your video date and yet the timing is perfect. Giving my old grill to my son and tuning it up so it works well right out of the gate. Putting in the igniter was the next and last step. This informative video did the trick. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to make another man's work a lot easier.

Wanted to take a moment to thank you for this excellent, step-by-step, all-inclusive instructional video surrounding changing the battery in the igniter and/or switching out the entire igniter system. My father passed in 2000, and he was always my "go-to" guy when something mechanical has gone awry. I actually had tears in my eyes while watching this video because the manner in which you teach/instruct is so very similar to the manner in which my father would have helped. Thanks . . . for the instruction, and for the memory.

This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound th-cam.com/users/postUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just pulled my 2008 Weber E-310 out for the Summer and went through the yearly checks of ensuring it's safe to use (hoses, burners, flavorizer bars, grates, tank mount, igniter. The igniter button didn't produce that quiet and familiar clicking sound and, upon inspection, found the battery in the igniter had corroded (didn't even remember when it was last changed). When I attempted to gently remove it, a metal pin of some type inside fell out of the battery tube. So I decided I probably needed to replace the igniter. First thing I did was to call Weber for the correct part # and purchased this kit 2 days ago from my local authorized Weber dealer to replace the igniter on my 2008 Weber Genesis E-310 (that's the model you have. The E-320 has the side burner). The Weber part # for this specific igniter kit is 67847. It's readily available through either Weber or grillparts.com, if you don't have a well-stocked Weber dealer nearby.
Although I'm not much of a DIYer, I'm going to install it this evening (first time I'll have ever done a repair to a grill). It looks to be fairly straight forward from your video. Thanks again for taking the time to go over the installation.
Quick follow-up: I was able to change out the entire igniter switch system yesterday evening without any problems. Thanks, again, for your step by step "how to" video.

Great video, thanks for putting it together. For anyone else looking to fix their ignitor, here are couple of preliminary steps:
    1. change the battery
    2. check for corrosion on both of the battery contacts (this is the most common problem)
    3. if some of the burners are igniting, check the electrical connections

Thank you so much - this is one of the best videos on TH-cam. Great video quality, great audio, very clear instructions. I was going to buy a new igniter but, after watching your super video and seeing how the igniter system works, I took the battery out and noticed that there was a little oxidation or corrosion on the battery contacts. I cleaned the contacts, replaced the battery, and cleaned the electrode - and that little thing is clicking away. Took me less than 10 minutes - THANKS TO YOU! Have a great summer.

Just bought this e-310 used at an estate sale. This old e-310 Weber grill doesn't have any rust on the body anywhere except the burners aren't all shiny and new looking, but they aren't rusted out either. Good job Weber for making an excellent quality gas grill!
Anyway, Thanks for making this video Steve. The igniter is the only thing NOT functioning because the battery exploded inside. Your video is still relevant 11 years later.
Weber doesn't make it easy to find the igniter parts for their old grills. My igniter has the part number 1819-51 on it, but Weber's website doesn't have it listed anywhere on their website. There are lots of Chinese knock offs on Amazon. I'll give Weber a call before I buy a cheap knock off since the old one lasted so long. Besides Weber deserves our business even if it's just ordering a part.
I'll definitely only buy Webers going forward!
Again, thanks for the great video Steve!
Appreciate the time and effort you put into making it!
    Cheers!

Thanks, Doug, I agree, I'm not sure why they make it so difficult to find the correct part. I have however, found their customer support line very helpful. That's how I finally found the correct igniter.
And I completely agree about the Weber Quality. I had some Big Box grills before I bought the one in the video. Sold it maybe 5 years later when I upgraded to a larger Summit. Webers just last!
Glad the old video helped, Doug!

Very useful video, it shows well how the igniter is assembled. The problem in my case was just oxidation of contacts, deep cleaning solved the issue. When you remove the plastic cap for changing the battery if you keep it in your left hand and push the button with the right thumb you see two small contact stripes on the sides. When you push the button those are supposed to touch the spring that you see inside the hole and close the circuit. I cleaned them and now it works fine. Check that before disassembling the whole thing.

Just setting up a new Weber Spirit and couldn't figure how the igniter worked. Thought it was broken. Come to find out we were expecting the igniter button to push 1/4" or so down to send a spark. Come to find out, we weren't pushing and holding the button long enough to hear the switch working. It barely moves. Simple solution! All is well with the new grill. Thanks for the video.

thanks for your video! i'm late to the party, but i wanted to share another repair method that works without having to buy new ignitor assembly.
my repair method with this style of ignitor was to clean the contacts on the upper push button and lower receptacle with automotive electrical contact cleaner (wet the contact and use a small screwdriver or pic while still wetted) to clean the terminals back to shiny. reassemble and test with new battery for spark. then, most important step - - remove battery and put a dab of dielectric grease on the top and bottom of the battery to prevent the contacts from corroding again, reassemble and confirm function. i also put dielectric grease on the plug-in terminals for good measure. $22 saved vs purchasing a new one, and it only takes about 10 mins to do this. cheers.

Much better than the owners manual, very informative. It took me only few minutes to fix the ignitor; thanks.

Not sure what you mean, if a question. Yes, it is pretty difficult to see. Tried my best to make it clear. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thanks, Chris. That was why I made it - I found it hard to find the right parts. Living in the Dakotas now and can't wait for warmer weather- miss my grilling time

Thank you for the video. I don't have an weber grill. But the concept is still the same i guess. I have an separate igniter from where my battery goes. I am guessing I need to replace the battery housing?

    • @CooksGarden
      @CooksGarden  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

First check the battery housing to see if all it is is corrosion. I neglected to talk about that in the video. If it's clean, then yes I would look at the battery housing if you have an electronic ignitor and not a pressure switch ignitor.

Very nicely done. I agree gas grills are great especially on week nights when there is not as much time. But I can always kick up the flavor a few notches with my charcoal grills. I love Weber grills. It is a great idea to have both gas and charcoal. In fact having a Weber gas and a Weber kettle is a great combination. I often use both at the same time.

Thanks Steve. You are an excellent teacher. Just replaced the broken ignitor on an old Weber Grill that came with the house we just purchased. We could not have done it without you! Thanks again and best regards. Happy Grilling! Julie from NJ
By the way, can you fix the transmission on our Chevy?

Thanks for such a nice comment. I still enjoy teaching and even have Wednesday night Livestreams on Simple editing tricks for home videos and movies. Sorry, but Powerglides (Chevy tranny's) are out of my bag of tricks for now. But I used to do it back in the early 70's! Thanks again, enjoy the grilling! I sure do....
