An interesting period piece. I'm puzzled about the use of coal and oil for fuel in the same locomotive. 1:18 " ...takes on coal, six tons of it ..." 1:40 " ... fuels with 1500 gallons of oil for auxiliary burning ..."
The S.A.R. had a Oil-Coal Firing set up. With minimal changes to the firebox they added burners to the backplate. Which means they had to have a coal fire maintained while the burners are operating. Availability, price and quality of coal influenced this style of firing arrangement.
A few sitting cars, but most or all are newer. I think the buffet car is one of the 4 RBJs when were origionaly BJ1-4, the oldest BJs Some of which were in service by the end of 1951.
This is so terrific, so polite, such manners. How I wish society was like that today
What a great little video.
"Believe it or not it's a sunny day" 🤣🤣🤣
Pure memories lost again
