    Just an FYI for those who don't know: UV 400 protection means that the glasses protect your eyes from both UVA and UVB radiation.

      Thank you brother. Actually I was quiet worried that my sunglasses has uv 400 protection but no uv A /B. 😅 Thnx again for clarifying.

    Very important to all pilots out there: Often your windscreens are already polarized which means that with polarized sunglasses you will see weird color shades when your looking through them. Also from some angles it will be hard, if not impossible, to read your digital instruments! So, from a pilot to all pilots out there: better use non polarized sunglasses for flying;)

    The UV-A and UV-B protection is especially important for people with blue, green, grey eyes. Those with dark or brown eyes have a higher concentration of active melanin, which naturally protects against UV ray damage.

    • @Manny4356
      @Manny4356 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Ali hassan why I'm going for non-polarized? Basically, I feel like you only need polarized if you drive more than most people or if you're around large bodies of water or selling cars, basically if you're around a ton of reflecting sunlight. Polarized glasses can also mess with the vision of your electronic screens, and this is bad if you're an uber driver or an airplane pilot. Also, for many brands, polarized glasses usually cost more (polarized raybans are usually $50 more than non-polarized). Yes, polarized glasses reduces sun glare more, but non-polarized glasses will still provide 100% UV protection. You'll have protection either way. I have 5 pairs of glasses and one of them is polarized just in case I ever need it. It all depends on you, your lifestyle, and what you normally do outside of the house.

    • @sav2040

      Manny4356 I really appreciate this explanation a lot! I live in FL and need a nicer pair of glasses for driving and the beach and found a deal on a polarized pair of sunglasses from ray ban but wasn’t sure of it would make a difference. For what I’m looking for the polarized is definitely the right choice especially considering the deal I got. Thanks for this info!

    I think you should also mention the effect polarized sunglasses have on LCD screens, they give off a rainbow sheen to them which makes them a little annoying to use with GPS when driving or texting in the sun but I still found the screen legible.

      Good point. This also happens if you have heat blocking ceramic tints on your car. I have five of my windows tinted in my car (everything but the front windshield). It's not too bad when I look out the side windows but it does present a mild problem when I am trying to look out the back to reverse.

    Even cheap plastic lenses filter UV intrinsically; glass lenses, ironically, do not filter UV without pricey extra coatings, and for outdoors/ recreational uses, can shatter with devastating consequences. Also, for optimal visual acuity and depth perception, you want to use the lightest lens shade, not the darkest as he wears in the video. Dark = wide open pupils, equals shallowest depth of field and focus. An old eye doctor rule of thumb is in the lighting you are working in, when looking in a mirror with glasses on you should still just barely be able to see your eyes in your reflection; any darker, and your detailed vision will be compromised, and if say driving, could have dangerous reduction in vision. Save the fashion eyewear for the clubs, not for critical uses. Polarizing filters much more light than might seem at first, and is useful mostly for water, or snow, very harsh reflective environments.

      z1522y doctor said polarized lens are better than none polarized and recommended I get them. I am in Australia though and am pretty sensitive to the light.

I have RayBans from the 1980's, and the etching is found elsewhere, but they could be counterfeit. But I really liked this video because you actually taught me about somethings that never would have been questioned as far as plain sunglasses go. Thank you

      As a fisherman, I only buy polarized sunglasses (ray ban / Costa del Mar / Maui Jim) because it helps to see the fish threw the topwater, but I wear my polarized glasses in day life too, it is great, every thing you look at seems more lively due to the better contrast.
      The only downside is when I look the screen of my phone (very minor issue so...)... And the price, good polarized lenses are more expensive than regular lenses, but it worth the price IMHO.

  • @AGC828

    Very general information. What you don't tell us is the fact that non-polarized lenses will still reduce glare. At least in my own experience with a quality pair of non-polarized lenses. Ray Ban New Wayferer with G15 green lenses. Not that much worse than Oakley's Prizm Sapphire Polarized lenses which I have in my Holbrooks. Perhaps today wasn't "sunny enough". That only in super intense (e.g. bright midday sun bouncing off white snow)...will there be a noticeable difference.
    On days where there is strong sun and glare a quality pair of non-polarized lensed sunglasses will work just fine. Do the same job pretty much.
    With winter around the corner I will be doing another a/b test...see if there IS a difference. Or, if all of this is snake oil. Marketing.
    Is the "contrast boosting tech" for real? I plan to buy a pair of Costa's to try...for a non-biased opinion...

If they do not, they probably have sleept during the classes and then they have bigger problems then what type of sunglasses they shall have.

    Polarised lenses do not necessary block UVA radiation. So don't hold your breath and save your money.

    Polarized glasses negate the "heads up" display on the windshields of cars.

      @Kacpa2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will also see thermal treating markings on the side and rear windows of all cars, and see other issues with similar transluscent materials, it may be really annoying and distracting on top of making it harder to see. Its better to have non polarizing glasses for driving.

    • @Manny4356

      They are not. As stated in the video, polarized ones will have a P on the Ray Ban logo of the lens as as well as on the inside of the temple. But either way, you're guaranteed 100% UV protection no matter whether you're have a polarized pair or not.

    • @JoeyLegendd
      @JoeyLegendd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No they are not. They have a chemical on the inside of the lens which you can see if you hold it up to the light from the inside of the frame.

    I can't hear what he is saying, hes not articulating his words. I want to know what type of glasses that gives me best view regarding of uv ray or polarized or whatever. I love when i put on a pair of glasses and they don't make the surrounding black. I want to have clarity and see really good.

      Polarised is important for people who get reflective light from the sea, sand, e.g fishermen if you are to use it in town and for driving non polarised may be a better fit.

    • @moriarty3160
      @moriarty3160 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It comes from the open sides so the lenses can't do anything to help.
