Rock lights are great when you camp and do a little night off roading. Other than that, its for looks. Personally, having them set to turn on as you unlock the truck as a ambient light, not full brightness like this video, works well.

The whole point of mounting them in the wheel wells is so spotters can see where your wheels are in the dark offroad. Performance>aesthetic

I've seen guys with wheel spacers so large, you could see the brake rotors from the front or behind. I thought that was pretty awful as well.
