They're literally charging what these consoles cost when they were new in stores 😂

Yeah that's absurd. They'll tell you "SUPPLY AND DEMAND!!!" We are literally a niche community. Who do you know in real life cares about retro games? It's not supply and demand, it's collectors hoarding these games for their shelves collecting dust for years instead of just recirculating them around and around, you play a game, finish it, sell it to someone else, and so on. Games are meant to be played and appreciated not put up for display collecting dust. I can't say it's the youtubers to blame, it's just people not using their judgment. What are you going to do with your collection when you're 80 years old? Bury it with you? No games are meant to be passed on, and if you don't plan on having kids to share these games with why even hoard them. These companies should be doing reproductions too.

@@Valstrax420 Hey I collect games so i don't agree with that part however you make a good point it's a very niche community i don't know anyone in my friend circle who cares about anything besides "PC PS5!!" The supply of Wiis and PS2 are definitely extremely high yet they charge prices as if they were some rare collector's console.

Remember when you were a kid and took your new SNES game to the 2nd hand game shop because you played the shit out of it and got bored, they said you can have any game you want in trade. I remember giving in earthworm Jim and them saying take your pick, I picked pinball dreams and the guy said are you sure, the newest most expensive games are on the top shelf, and I said nah I like pinball, that's how these small businesses should make money, with a mutual agreement, not like this.

Man the retro market is crazy but there are still deals to be found. I went to this one pawn shop that had all the games behind glass, had to ask the guy to get each one for me, nothing had stickers on it (red flag should've left at that point) And the ones that did have stickers on them he said "oh that's the outdated price need to update those" never again

I live in the UK, by the way. My local game store, which has sadly closed during the pandemic, was so good for pricing. Some of the gems I have had from them include an OG XBox and 2 games for $47. Bully for $11 when the other store was charging $25. I converted the prices to USD.

I actually have traded with dk in the past, they used to be like a typical store giving about 50-60 % game values from price charting, the last few times I’ve checked they are down to giving 10% game credit compared to value. Now the values they show are for cash and you get 20% more for store credit but the overall value doesn’t make it worth it

You make excellent points. I wanted SEGA CD and a Genesis 32X but I didn't even want to spend the money on the new mini. So I just watch long plays here on TH-cam (NintendoComplete is the best one with a huge variety) and it scratched that itch real fast. Same with 3DO and CD-i. Just watch those games on TH-cam (most of them are FMV anyways). Saves me so much money and space!
My only weakness is PlayStation. I have every console in box and most are new/open box. I was smart though and scoured eBay for a long time to get some of them. I can't imagine paying these prices for junk used stuff. Those are close to what I paid for brand new. I got a brand new fat PS2 for $350 and a brand new PlayStation TV Lego Movie bundle for $100 not long ago.

PSP parts can still be purchased on Amazon and Ebay. You can get a whole new faceplate on Amazon for like $10-$15 bucks. Get you a small screwdriver and pop it on. Takes all of the scratches and scuffs from the screen immediately most of the time. Because it's usually the plastic over the screen that's messed up.

As someone that has sold to them, its generally pretty easy. They can screw you over though if the label is damaged they just mark down the game to half off the quoted price.

Couple months ago I sold them 234 ps2 games pricecharting value of $3400. They sent me a check for $2000. Which I thought was more than fair. If I sold on ebay considering fees and now getting a 1099 for anything over 600 bucks and the time and hassle of shipping I figure I lost maybe 4-500 bucks. How long would it take to sell that amount of games, plus they had free shipping to them.

@@SoulProphet Nah, they don’t do any kind of checks or cleaning or anything. Even if you pay extra and buy the “good condition” consoles, you’ll still get dirty consoles that probably haven’t had their thermal paste changed by DKOldies at all and the consoles themselves may not have even been opened at all by them. Just look at Jacob R who bought a “good condition” Xbox 360 from them and it was dirty as hell and hadn’t had its original thermal paste changed. And then there’s ReviewTechUSA who bought a “good condition” Nintendo Entertainment System and it had a big chip in the plastic at the front of the console & its original screws at the bottom were replaced with crappy Phillips heads which can cause issues with the front loading cartridge mechanism. Then RTU also bought a first party NES controller and it was SUPER dirty and sticky. Then he bought Super Mario 2 and the contacts at the bottom of the cartridge were dirty. I think I’ve made my point.

idk people keep harassing dk Oldies and their prices...they are a business they are not like your homie collector..... people complain about them not refurbishing and cleaning stuff but then you wanna bitch at how much they are willing to pay as a small business. if you are expecting them to take apart consoles clean and repair circuit boards and ship shit for free then they can NOT pay alot up front or they will have to raise the price. this guy is claiming that they are making 250% profit but that is necessarily true. it's called the cost of doing business. you bitch about them selling for too much but then complain that they aren't paying enough.... take a minute and learn some simple economics. they have a base line they will pay take it or leave it...then they will take you dirty broken system and clean it up and repair it....but after like 5 employees have touched it they need to charge a certain amount. if you are uncomfortable with paying to much and not getting paid enough then you clean the consoles, put them up on your own stores web site, warranty it your self and make sure you don't charge too much. lol. these stupid TH-cam people crack me up
