Talk about LONG ear tufts!!! HAHAHAHA!!!! Squirrels are likely the most fun animal to watch in their natural habitat!! They are incredibly intelligent as well! When the trees were trimmed here at my house while I was a very young child, they knocked over a nest of grey squirrels and one of the babies fell out. With such a long fall it amazes me that the little guy survived! He didn't even have his eyes open yet. We took him in after figuring out his mother would not take him back and named him Curly. Curly was a guard squirrel!!! Anyone who didn't live in our house got jumped on and ran around like a tree trunk. Sometimes people would run screaming from the house, others would laugh so hard they soon had tears streaming down their face. Curly showed me just how smart these beautiful creatures can be, when he was older we would leave the window open. He left in the morning and returned every night to cuddle up with us on the couch. More of their intelligence was shown on the feeder when she got to it and sniffed and sniffed, being fully aware of the pine marten!! A reintroduced squirrel may not have seen a pine marten before, but she knew instinctively that smell was a bad one and she NEEDED to be extra cautious! I'm so happy to know there are folks in the world who understand the importance of every single animal and insect living amongst us and helping to keep nature's perfect balance, well uhhh.......BALANCED!!! The work you're doing Dani is so extraordinarily important!!!! I thank you from the bottom of what's left of my melted heart!!!!!!! Thank you for loving wildlife enough to have the patience to be a photographer and thank you for the painstaking effort of editing and all that so we can come along and watch your journeys finding and documenting these absolutely amazing little fur babies!!!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!! This was one of the best uploads you've done my friend and I enjoyed it very very much!!!
In the midst of the cold, a community of cute squirrels hides many. I really want to call this place a beautiful fairy tale land. It is different from many places on our planet. It's full of beautiful nature.
Great job! I couldn't help thinking at the beginning when you were having trouble finding the squirrels that they were probably up in a hole in a tree cursing about how cold and wet it was in Scotland. 😂🤣😂
Thank you for another beautiful red squirrel video. I have a red squirrel visiting my garden in Fife in Scotland….I bought a squirrel feeder and filled it with nuts but she just ignores this and instead hangs upside down on the birds peanut feeder and takes the peanuts. Maybe one day she’ll use the squirrel feeder?! 😂
Dani, I lack words to describe the beauty of your films, your skills as videographer, photographer, narrator, your patience, dedication and your profound love for the red squirrels, therefor I say WOW!
This was amazing! I always worry that you'll feel pressure to find your photography target, so please know I value your experience and the beautiful nature you are in just as much. But what an incredible surprise ending, and those ear tufts!!! I'm so appreciative that you added such interesting conservation information. It's heartwarming to know there are groups and individuals out there who are working so hard to keep squirrels and the tree's that are their homes plentiful.
They are such a unique and beautiful squirrel. The places in Scotland were magical. I really like the photos of the ducks too. I cannot get enough of your beautiful videos. Thank you so much for doing this.
"Tell me that didn't melt your heart" Sorry, I can't. I think that this is probably your best video yet, though I may be biased, having lived on a bus in northern Scotland years ago. This made me painfully nostalgic.
Truly enjoyable piece! As I will never have an opportunity to travel to the Scottish Highlands you were my eyes and ears☺️. Beautiful video and photography as always. And to add a Western comment…they walk down the trees like Spider-Man 🥳
Hello from Indiana! A great story and story telling! I love hearing that people are working to restore land back to its natural state, before humans (in most cases) destroyed it unfortunately. It will be interesting to see over the coming years how reintroducing red squirrels to the environment how they effect it and it brings back something that has been missing from the woods since there absence! Great job, and love seeing and hearing that your love of these fun little tree acrobats as caught the attention of others that love and want to help them! Look forward to seeing more! 👍👏👏👏🤘
In a decade or so, when the tree bridge is built between the forests, it would be so cool to see a follow up video! Thank you for everything that you do- what an astoundingly beautiful video. And yes, the squirrels did melt my heart. ❤
absolute fantastic footage and presentation in general. big thanks for sharing this story and your experience. also love it that baby pear is always with you ;)
Beautiful footage. It would be great even if you did not find the squirrels. But the squirrel photographs at the end were astounding. I come from a land full of red squirrels but I never saw one eating while hanging on the hind legs. Great job! 👍
Beautiful photography and videography as always ......... when you want a squirrel there aren't any, ....... then they all come along at once - just like buses.
So gorgeous...wonderful pics I was already thinking of joining Trees for life as a volunteer, but now I 'll do it for sure in my next holidays Thanks for this wonderful film
A beautiful video, Dani, especially the last minutes. I passed by both Ben Shieldaig and northern Cairngorm in 2016. Regarding translocations - between 1989-1993, 93 juvenile Red Kites, all of them from Sweden, were translocated to different sites in Scotland in an effort to reintroduce an extinct species. Despite the fact that several of them were poisoned by stupid people that don't like foxes and crows, Red Kites are now green listed, as far as I know. //Per L
I’ve lived in Scotland for over 5 years and I’ve only ever seen 3 red squirrels. Then again I only just bought a telephoto lens this year 😅 they are so cute, I hope I am lucky enough to see one. The duck photos were truly magnificent!
Hallo Dani, i am from Germany. I can feel your enthusiasm for the Red Squirrel in each of your videos. The videos are absolutely brilliant. Your patience must be limitless. Thank you, keep doing that.
Red squirrels are some of my favorite animals! I love their little ear tufts and the way they flatten their tails against the back of their heads when they're eating
Those squirrels are so cute. In Sask Canada my grandfather would camp at the same spot for all his years and the squirrel family there got to know him and accepted him every summer. I have fond memories of Grandpa's squirrels.
Yes, I love the way you tell the story and the way you bring the nature to us. My deepest respect and thanks to the professionals and all voluteers who are taking care of the nature. For sure, it melt hy heart.
Some wonderful work going on in Scotland to rewild the landscape and restore native forest cover and species diversity. Great video. Keep them coming Dani
What an awesome channel just been through quite a few videos. I wish we had red squirrels here in Hertfordshire they are so cute. There's so much more nature to explore up there in Scotland add to that amazing landscape photography too. Good luck have fun.
What a magnificent educational experience… I adore the squirrels on my property and I can’t get enough of your videos. Thank you for showing us the value of these adorable little forest friends.! I call my favorite red squirrel “THE BOSS” because he earned it and everyone else knows it too😂. I enjoy offering them treats as much as they love receiving them. They have wonderful personalities and I’m hopelessly in love with them. ❤️🐿
Totally a heart opener this video and your love for the little rascals (Suirrels) 🐿😍! What you love you would project and your love is projected in to these videos. Congratulations as a squirrel protector ! Doing a great job!
The bravest i ever was, was spending a month in Scotland with a friend stationed at Edzel. I was overjoyed to find your video in my favorite place in the world. I found Scotland so lovely. We didn't do tourest things. We just drove from town to town hiking and spending time in the beauty of nature. So happy red squirrels are being reintroduced. I hope it is successful and leads the way for many squirrels to flourish there.❤
I admire your patience in waiting for the red squirrels to show up. Great footage and great photos. Hopefully some of them will be in next years calendar. I also liked that you took pics of waterfowl, which is one of my favorite subjects to take photos of.
I wish that I would have had a camera the day that I saw a woodduck paddling down the edge of a creek with 13 babies in tow. It was an incredible thing to witness.
Have you been to Ireland, there are hundreds of red squirrels in my local wood in south Tipperary, I feed them every day and have thousands of pictures of them.
Hi Dani 😊 🐿 The wait was worth it, a wonderful video, such beautiful landscapes and a nice atmosphere by the fireplace, love your voice and the music, nature conservation and then finally the red squirrels, thank you very much for that, have a good time and warm greetings from Andreas 🐿 ❤
Exactly my thoughts as many before me. The professional and mesmerizing photography, filming and narrating skills of this video are really astounding and captivating. This was such a wonderful Sunday view. Restoring faith in humanity. Thank you, Dani, for all your work!
Very professional, charming & endearing!!! This is the second of your video's I have watched & I will certainly be watching more!! Hope to find that you have been to The Isle of Wight on your quest. Best of luck with your conservation work!!
.. and thanks to the aquatic squirrels, bigfoot, and Dani O'Conner Wild. Without them this documentary wouldn't have been possible. :-) (These last two have been awesome, you have arrived as far as I'm concerned. :-)
I've never done wildlife photography in the wild but I imagine it's long hours/days/weeks of waiting. Gorgeous images of the red squirrels and the Squirrelus aquaticus 😆 Thank you for highlighting the work of the trust and bringing their important conservation work to our attention.
Thanks a lot. Was feeling down but better now. Amazing how a video of nature can make me feel better. Very calming really. I love your storytelling a lot. Again thanks 🙏
Danni, another enchanting video; I sincerely adore your work. Well done. I remember being up in Braemar several yeas ago for a week and watching red squirrels in the garden of the house I rented, they were so utterly delicate and delightful.....they make our grey squirrels (so common here in the Chilterns) seem like total hooligans by comparison. I wonder, after falling so in love with the reds, what are your thoughts on greys?
🍃🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🐿🍃Well done! Have fun exploring the wildlife on your road trip to Sweden it sounds like a wonderful Dirtbag adventure (Patagonia Term). If you ever find your way to Canada let me know we have lots of wildlife here to explore. We can do a canoe trip in Algonquin and Killarney Provincial Park. Vancouver Island and the East Coast also have amazing nature and Wildlife but all our provinces has its unique beauty. 🤗🍃
As always, a wonderful video, thank you Dani! Hopefully they will repopulate and thrive in their new habitat in Scotland! Those little guys are so adorable, our feeder ist frequently visited by our red squirrels (Germany).
Beautiful shots, great editing and narration. Cinematic quality on YT 👍Probably a lot of hard work, but the result - this movie has been a pleasure to watch and it made my day 😃
I live in an area where I have only internet by LTE really. So I need to spend my gbs wisely. And all the time I see a video at least I crank up the resolution from 480 to 1k to to really acknowledge your amazing and heart melting work
Yesterday I was honestly wondering where Dani would be and when a new video would come out. I so much look forward to watching this video and it's great to see you back!
It's brilliant. This is of a cinematic quality and detail that is unknown to TH-cam. The amount of work and patience is not to be underestimated. Just know it's appreciated and seen.
Lovely. Beautiful footage of the country I live in. 🏴 Now in the mood to go to work. Well It is a Monday.
The cinematography, storytelling and editing of your videos is gorgeous. Dani, I am mesmerized, much Aloha from Hawaii.
I love how the squirrels wrap their tails up on their backs.
Thank you, SquirrelSpace, for sponsoring this video.
Ive now fallen in love with your family of red squirrels! Thanks Dani

Thank you squirrel space 🐿, for supporting this channel 🌰
