PLEASE Dom! We need a part 2! I've been using Cubase 10+ Years and am still learning new things. Please give an in-depth look at Key Commands and there functions. Been in this rabbit hole for a few weeks now. Have always used the basic commands, but never like I'm about to thanks to you. I would also love an In-Depth look at the Media bay. That is another rabbit hole I have gone down. I've only been using a sliver of media bays potential and came across a lot of things that will help my workflow and would love to see your hidden tricks for the updated Media bay. Its crazy to see how LITTLE Cubase is used by Producers (I'm in the Pacific Northwest USA) when its got more functions than you know what to do with. I know 1 other person in real life (Not on the internet) that uses Cubase. Thank you for the videos and amazing Cubase content!
You should spend just one hour+ just to add all the shortcut u used in another daw into cubase. After have done this you should be familiar with cubase in just few days.
I didn't know you could view "customized"! I knew I made a few but was surprised to see over 20! My number one shortcut is "Shift+Z" to zoom to locators - could not work without it!
Thanks Dom! I've got a great shortcut to share that I use all the time. It's the "Pitch Visibility: On/Off" for MIDI editor. Super useful when you are doing drum programming!
Absolutely amazing video! Watched it 4 times back to back. Internalized on the first three and took notes on the last view. I hope that you make another video going over more shortcuts. Love Cubase and definitely appreciate your videos and instruction! Keep up the good work!
Hello Dom, a very good video but also a lot of information in a short time. I think I need to watch it more often. It would be nice if you made another video about it. Thank you very much.🙂👍
Thank you for the feedback Herbert. People seem to dislike longer videos and sometimes complain when I go slow but I’m with you- I prefer longer videos as well!
An enormous 👍🏻 dear Dom. BOOM💥!!!! It improves my workflow light-years beyond...thanks for sharing your wisdom with the world. Please upload more content like this. Hugs from Cuba
What a great selection! Thank you very much. I love to use "minimize all tracks" to change the order of tracks more easily like moving a track from the bottom to the top followed by "undo zoom"
Great video, as always Dom! I've added the Listen and Monitor options now. Like many Cubase users I have programmed my MIDI controller to handle my most used key commands. I can't always remember them when I'm away using my laptop out of the studio, as I now have quite a large number of shortcuts and macros. As a result, I have a key command 'SHIFT + K' to open my 'key commands' editor window.
I use Cubase IC Pro instead of shortcuts. This way I have buttons that clearly identify the function. Also, I can use it as a remote wireless controller across the studio. That could be an interesting video. A lot of people have an old iPad or Android tablet that can be put to good use.
Thanks Dom! These kinds of videos are fantastic and always help me learn stuff about Cubase of which I wasn't already aware. They absolutely speed up my workflow too! :)
This is great, thank you Dom. Steinberg should really think about an export and import file for multiple Shortcuts and Macro's. Doing all this manually is definitely one thing that isn't good workflow.
I'm still working out my workflows since making cubase my main Daw about 6 months ago, and I don't use audio much, I am mainly using orchestral libs. My main keymap additions so far are (on Mac): Ctrl-E - Open Key Editor in Window Ctrl-D - Disable/Enable Track F13 - Edit VST Instrument Ctrl-S - Zoom to Selection Horizontally Ctrl-Z - Undo Zoom Ctrl-I - Add Position Marker on Selected Track Alt-D - Duplicate Selected Tracks without Data Ctrl-1 - Toggle Step Input Ctrl-B - Show/Hide Lower Zone Ctrl-Q - Select Previous Quantize Value Ctrl-W - Select Next Quantize Value Ctrl-R - Render (with Current Settings) Ctrl+Num + - Octave Shift Up (Logical Editor Preset) Ctrl+Num - - Octave Shift Down (Logical Editor Preset) F16 - Show Only Enabled Tracks (Logical Editor Preset) From experience I have come to prefer not changing default mappings, and stick to only additions when customising. I have also obtained a Stream Deck because I'd rather not have to memorise a million esoteric key combos :-)
Re: "create sampler track" - - you actually have two options, each with a separate command. 1. From the media bay (like in Dom's video here) 2. In an audio part that's on a track. Although they are both titled "create sampler track", you cannot use the same command for both. Go to key commands and search "command sampler track" and you'll see what I mean. VERY handy and thoughtful feature. :-)
I only learned ONE thing, but it was really useful, so don't get overwhelmed by the amount of info coming at you in this vid, just cherry pick what might be handy for you and your workflow (then come back next week and pick another ect ect! lol).... great info.. thanks!!..
Hi Dom, Thank you for your really informative content. Just a question: where does Cubase save user Key Commands on macOS? I'd like to store them in my personal settings folder in case I need to reinstall the system or for backup purposes.
Love your channel! Trying to up my overall Cubase game lately, and your videos are just great. My biggest hurdle today is trying to get proper levels between Helix in, direct guitar in, Omnisphere multis (wayyyy too loud), EZ drummer, plus bass, vocals, FX guitars. Everything is always too loud. I'll keep workin at it! Thx again.
Super helpful Mr. Dom! Can you or someone in comments refresh me on what key combo or symbol is beng used for the Listen Shortcut at timestamp 11:03? Many Thanks for the work you do!
I use a lot of the same ones you do, based mostly on your previous videos. But one that is essential for me is to make the ; key be snap cursor to end of event. So that way L will jump the cursor to the start of an event and ; (which is right next to L) moves the cursor to the end of an event. And yes we want another video like this. Duh. :-)
The first key command I set up on Cubase is CTRL+Insert to bring up the Key Commands List. I found it very useful early on as I was learning Cubase to quickly learn and edit key commands as I went along and discovered new things about the software. Also......is it my imagination, or is this the first video to include a "BOOM!" in awhile?
"duplicate track" and "alt+P" are my most used shortcuts when i make Templates. I use templates as a ressource to build up very fast new templates/Projects, using "import track from Project" it takes me less than 2 minutes to build a new Orchestral project (based on Chordtracks and Folders with ready to go Instruments included some Midi events to listen. There are even prepared FX , STEMS and Groupchannels with routing and specific FX Plugins like REVerence ready to go.
Thank you for sharing this. One question: How do you assign the Key command to a Controller Line Set up the way you showed in this video? I can't figure it out. I'm really very new to Cubase. Thank you again for your help.
Do you use your Stream Deck for this or do memorized keystrokes work faster? Any plans on reviewing Nektar Panorama CS12 (in combination with Stream Deck)?
Hi, I always use the mixer view toggle between pre and post fader. This because I always struggle with the overcoming the 0db threshold and typically it’s not always clear whether it’ the input or the output… is it only me? Thanks a lot for yours.
bind complicated 4button shortcuts (ctrl+alt+shift+ F12) to a MULTI BUTTON mouse via their software (LOGITECH G600 in my case) and u have 3x12 side buttons + the usual multimouse buttons. The power of your Thumb! there is a video on YT how to map and use the Logi G600 in Cubase.
Is it now possible to assign a shortcut to a specific track preset? Or to call a specific track archive file from a shortcut? I've been able to do that with a Stream Deck and a mix of shortcuts and Applescript (It's actually how I call my pack of Maschine tracks and all the Cubase MIDI and audio channels and routing already set) but I'd rather have a native way to do this. Also I have another question: are the samples of the new drum machine (drum tracks) included into the library of the project?
Question: If you use "Open Key Editor In Window" . . . how do you then close it? Ctrl +W is the Windows default, but I wonder if you have a different command Dom? Same question re: the "Open Sample Editor . . ." Thanks!
i made it a workspace presets and just swtitch between all the different views, its then acting like a toggle switch. AL1 is the standard Cubase window setup, ALT 6 the MIDI EDITOR FULL window ( in my case)
Please tell me one thing, how to make a good symmetrical sound (not mono) using Cubase, for example, like stockers do? Everything is wide, powerful and at the same time symmetrical, you take a high-quality corporate, and it is powerful, wide but mirrored by channels, not like in cinematics, instruments are often distributed across the panorama, and a full-fledged track is centered. I have tried everything. Thanks in advance!
Thanks I finally tried a trial of cubase. I'm not sure what I'm missing I'm use to bitwig which has a huge number of hardware scripts for controllers like my Akai APC64 I was shocked to see the very small list of controllers in Cubase. Am I missing something. I also found the control must have return to the start of a track hidden somewhere cause I couldn't find it . I have used logic and bitwig and Ableton I mainly do basic linear audio recordings nothing complicated so I saw this video come up and as a newbit thought I'd hit the where are all the hardware controller scripts cause without support it's dead in the water to me strangely didn't see my 16 stereo aus audio inputs from my Fantom either yet the pop up in bitwig Ableton and logic automatically . Hmmm
Hi William, what controllers do you use? Cubase automatically detects a compatible controller. Otherwise it’s dead easy to create your own custom one in a few minutes- I’ve made a video about this :)
After I upgraded to 13, two things I hated so far is that, when I use the channels' slider in the mixing console, it lags when sliding between channels. I first doubted that it lags while playing back but it also lags when the playback is stopped. The second issue it messes up with my automation. Other than that, it works great.
easy... this is what you keep in mind when you work with Cubase every day!!! I have more than 34 shortcuts in my head. I don't need a printed list on my desk.^^
for some reason i assigned a shortcut to create sampler track and when clicking a sample and hitting the shortcut i get a message saying "The shortcut assigned is not currently available"
YES : we want a second video !

I am trying to shift from pro tools and these shortcuts are my absolute starting point for my Cubase Journey
it saves you from a lot of headaches
Welcome to the Power House of Cubase Pro 13.
Really tried to leave pro tools but it’s tough. Mainly because of editing and some other details. There’s a lot of good stuff on Cubase tho
You should spend just one hour+ just to add all the shortcut u used in another daw into cubase. After have done this you should be familiar with cubase in just few days.

Thanks Dom! I've got a great shortcut to share that I use all the time. It's the "Pitch Visibility: On/Off" for MIDI editor. Super useful when you are doing drum programming!
AWESOME shortcut!
I can't believe I only hear about this now. Thank you kindly! Game Changer for editing drums.
I combined the commands “Audio-Bounce selection” and “Midi-Bounce midi” into the one macro and hotkey using PLE. One key join regions of any type
Absolutely amazing video! Watched it 4 times back to back. Internalized on the first three and took notes on the last view. I hope that you make another video going over more shortcuts. Love Cubase and definitely appreciate your videos and instruction! Keep up the good work!

I figured out "Add Track" "T" Last night coincidentally Haha! 😅
I use almost only shortcuts and I use a Stream Deck to trigger them faster and easily 😉
I didn't know about *Bounce MIDI*. That is awesome 👍
It's awsome! Thanks Dom

First off love the shirt
My export mixdown is literally CTRL+E. Nice and simple 😅
It sure would be neat if Steinberg would add in to Cubase a keymap help page like the one Dorico has.
"duplicate track" and "alt+P" are my most used shortcuts when i make Templates.

What's the advantage to using Events to Part over Bounce Selection?
You can dissolve the part and move the events around. Also it doesn't generate a new audio file, ie SSD space.
Do you use your Stream Deck for this or do memorized keystrokes work faster?
Any plans on reviewing Nektar Panorama CS12 (in combination with Stream Deck)?
