That was the saddest thing I've ever seen
Olivia Vasquez to be fair Jamie was the only one who disagreed with Eugene’s being bagel for the sole reason that he didn’t like the taste-which honestly doesn’t make it not a bagel. He just outright ignored that it was a creativity factor. Also it’s a bad idea to have a kid judge when Eugene serves alcohol, not to mention the kid had no professional experience about the cooking in this episode.
Oscar Tran It’s good to have a variety of perspectives when judging a competition like this. The Try Guys have minimal experience and they’re going without a recipe. Lord knows they’re going to screw up. Having a variety of taste buds on the panel leads to a more interesting discussion in regards to the Try Guys cookings as there is no telling what the outcome will be. Also, the kid could be seen as a customer in the store so it’s not really a bad idea.
GalacticJellyFish While I do agree that variety is good, you still do realize there’s a rather large discrepancy between the judges right? Generally speaking, adults are able to enjoy flavors that kids don’t, and while this is a generalization, it’s evident enough in this video. For example, Eugene’s bagel which was so infused with beer. In addition, as I’ve said before the child has no experience with professional judgement, you don’t see kids on professional cooking shows as judges simply because most people are doubtful of their decisions, which are more prone to certain things. Seen in this scenario, Jamie simply disagrees that Eugene’s bagel is not one because it’s spicy, which I felt was not an adequate reason. In his own rankings, he also only focused on taste- neglecting all other categories. Yes different perspectives are important, but I still think there is less room for error if a child isn’t judging without experience, especially if one of your chefs loves to add alcohol and a large amount of spice.

Jamie was there for a few laughs and a different perspective (the perspective of a bagel layman, if you will).
Also, the alcohol content gets cooked/baked off, making it ok for kids to eat. It’s generally seen as ok to let kids eat mildly alcoholic desserts, too.

This is my fifth Without a Recipe I've seen and I am very much convinced Eugene can indeed cook and is just bored.
I’m convinced that he can cook, but decided early to give him a handicap by making NOTHING basic.
He can cook basic stuff, like eggs, rice, but he cannot cook well, as a chef, I can tell

The judges that annoy me the most are the ones that say a specific version of the food doesn't qualify as that food basically bc they don't like it.🤷♀️
And the judges deciding that sweet bagels are muffins doesn't even make sense. Like, there are qualifications for a food to be designated as a certain food, and one for muffins is batter. Bagels are made with dough (like Keith's was), not batter. If they're gonna be pretentious about food, then at least their "totally not what it actually is food" should be something that can still sort of quality as whatever they say it is.
tbh aside from jamie i was not a fan of these judges. they seemed kinda stuck up and like they didn't want to be there at all. I totally agree with you.
As a Jewish person, the whole thing with cinnamon raisin/chocolate chip bagels is the expectation of savory. It doesn’t necessarily have to do with liking them.
@@fruitbythefoote As another Jewish person, I call bs. I love sweet bagels. What makes a bagel for me is how it's cooked. If you can get that right (and a lot of people don't, even many who think they know what they're doing) you can put whatever flavor you want in them.
@@Libbathegreat I don’t dislike sweet bagels, but they don’t have as much function as savory ones. Sweet bagels are great for desert, but savory bagels can be the bread in a breakfast sandwich or stand on its own with cream cheese and lox. Sweet bagels only work with cream cheese and they almost always have too much sugar and make me want to pass out afterwards. As far as Keith’s bagel goes, it was poorly formed and as you said, if a bagel isn’t cooked properly, it all goes out the window. Just because it has a hole in the middle doesn’t make it a bagel automatically.

I just got to say especially being from New York and living on Long Island cinnamon raisin bagels are 100% a bagel. Every single bagel store in New York carries them. I’ve been eating them my whole life not gonna let a bunch of people from California tell me that it’s not a bagel!! Lol

I think it's a shame that they brought Jamie on to judge but the other judges clearly didn't take his opinions on board when judging the bagels, considering how wildly their final judgment varied from his.

Not saying the way the did it was right but they are the professionals and he's a kid who eats bagels also kids are not the best taste judges ask them if you look good they'll tell you the truth but kids judge things on how they like it whereas judges know the critics you judge on and I don't know who's kid he is but it kind of to me sounded like a oh couldn't find a babysitter brought my kid to work he may as well be apart of the video vibes I could be wrong tho just how it sounded to me
@@its_ri_baby Jamie was a fan that they met at an event, and was brought onto a video ages ago for a reason I can't remember. But basically he was a hit with the audience because he had a good dynamic with Eugene on set considering Eugene's general dislike of children. They bring his mum whenever he appears on a video so it's not a case of him being a child of the staff. I can't remember the full story now as it was years ago but Jamie has been a visitor to the show for enough times to be recognisable. He's judged without a recipe a few times too so if his opinions weren't wanted then why let him judge.

Well if he was specifically brought in to be judged then yeah like I said earlier it felt like those times when the parent brings their kid to work and to entertain them they let them join for the fun of it, again not what they did and how they ignored his judging input was acceptable in any of the situations. But also from my various competitions it's majority rules he seemed to be the only one with extremely different opinions to the other judges they seemed to all have similar opinions so

After rewatching this ep a good amount of times I definitely think they put Zach in 4th place for shits and giggles. Like Ned's bagel was undercooked and doughy but Zach's bagel was just super salty? He also was creative adding water from New York and still ended up last? Make it make sense

Yo, Zach deserved better. Keith's was literally underbaked and labeled as muffin. Eugene's crust was the only good part, the bread part was bland so likeeeeee- Also Ned's bagel was doughy and it lost all the sesame soooo, Zach def deserved at least third or second for actually having a bagel even if it was too salty.

I would say that both the accuracy and the having basic tasting bagel is 1000% better than Ned's failed basic sesame seeded bagel. I really think the only fair judge was Jamie. Like seriously, the other judges are so unnecessarily harsh and up their own arses. Saying a cinnamon raisin bagel isn't a bagel is BS considering most bagel companies make those. Just cause you don't like sweet bread. The female judge was so dramatic, especially when saying she was covered in grease, get over yourself. Also her telling off Jamie for a cute little joke when mouthing at Keith, my God woman you're not his mother, so condescending and was quite a terse tone - irritated me so much throughout. I'm so glad the judging panel improved significantly after this season
I agree 100%, I hate when she’s brought on as a judge because she’s always unnecessarily rude to Jamie for whatever reason. She talks over him, berates him, and never takes into account anything he says. She also doesn’t judge fairly or properly, she was especially awful in the ice cream episode. Seems a lot of people don’t like her in these episodes, she has a generally uppity and rude attitude.
