    I've started learning how to do things like this because our food in the USA is full of pesticides

    • @WhimsyCrafter
      @WhimsyCrafter  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Brian. It's the same here in India. But you know what,even when growing at home the kind of pests that attack your plants force you to use the insecticides at home too. Indiscriminate use of pesticides and insecticides have developed resistance in the pests. A simple neem oil does not work anymore

    Thanks for your video. I had some strawberries that my kids didn't eat and this year we lost 2 of our best strawberry plants during winter. Despite being wheatherized, we had a feral cat that kept sleeping in the container where are strawberries were and i think she killed them. So hopefully using your method we can get some more strawberry plants to come up. This was extremely helpful...I was trying to scrape them off one by one at first lol

    Thanks for ur video sister, easy way of removing seeds...but i do have a doubt that, what happens if i remove the bark of the strawberry at late night or at night?
    1. Where can i keep that till morning?
    2. After keeping in sunlight in the afternoon or morning, where we need to keep them during night times??.
    Please do reply for this...

      To germinate the seeds,keep the setup under morning sunlight upto 10 am.
      The rest of the day,it can be kept under shade. At night if the temperatures go severely down,you can keep it indoors else outdoors is fine.

    2.Can I keep seeds for the next season? Like harvest them now and sow in Dec or Jan... Or I can sow even now?? Please reply...

      Hello😊
      It's my pleasure to answer your queries,because you took care to watch my video.Thank you so much.
      1) Absolutely! I had bought these beautiful healthy strawberries for eating,but further research taught me how I could start plants from these seeds.I would suggest you hand pick the fresh strawberries individually at the market.That way you can choose the healthy fruits,which will help you get healthy plant and fruits.Try and avoid the prepackaged ones.
      2)I think it will work,providedyou store the seeds well.Even I plan to do the same,and for that,I have saved the seeds,and place them in double Ziploc pouches,and kept it in the fridge.I think the seeds will be fine.However,I can only be sure when I use them the next season.I am not afraid of experimenting.You too can give it a try.
      I don't know where you are based,but I feel this is not really the time to get the plants thriving.Even if they germinate,they won't live through the entire cycle easily.
      Hope I could answer all your queries.Please subscribe to my channel for more such updates,and do check out my other videos.

  • @leannekenyoung
    @leannekenyoung 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I wonder if this would work if I placed the “strawberry bark”(love that term never heard it before!) into a dehydrator for a few hours if it would cause the same result as leaving them in the sun? Would dehydrating them cause any harm to the seeds??
    If anyone knows the answer to the above and what temperature they used and for how long I’d really appreciate it! I do have an extremely sunny south facing window but only for a short period of time during the day especially during our Cold Canadian winters. During summer it may be much easier?
    🙏🏻🥰🇨🇦

    • @WhimsyCrafter
      @WhimsyCrafter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello Leanne. Thank you for watching this video😃 Dehydrator also came to my mind,but I was wary of its effects on the seed🤔
      I'd like to share another trick. Roughly mash the strawberry into a purée and then place the purée in a strainer,under running water...the water will wash away the pulp while the strainer will hold back the seeds,I hope I could explain.
      And yes if you want you can try it out in the warmer months when the Sun is brighter in Canada😊

    Do I need to soak the seeds to root before planting? Someone else said those are outer husks, not seeds, and it's hard to grow from them. Thoughts?

    • @WhimsyCrafter
      @WhimsyCrafter  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The bigger the seed,the greater the need to soak. The tinier the seed the more is the need to sprinkle them on the media,keep it moist and fungus free.
      I live in a tropical country,there is abundance of Sun ☀️ all year round so I do not do anything extra to get my seeds going.
      Many of my viewers abroad suggest stratification of seeds. Simply put,they pop them in the fridge for a few weeks before planting them outdoors,they say it helps with breaking dormancy.
      These seeds in the video germinated without any extra care and they sure were seeds,which is why they emerged. I guess you'd hv to find it out for yourself Elaine😊
      Thanks for watching,btw. Stay tuned

    • @WhimsyCrafter

      Sundrying is a natural way of treating seeds before sowing. When you put it directly,you increase the chances of losing them to fungal and bacterial rot.

      To be honest with you,I ,myself am a novice when it comes to strawberries,and the series of videos you already see on my channel chronicle my first attempts at growing the fruit. I think, autumn (September, and the early part of October in these areas) will be the best gardening season in Mediterranean climate areas. This is the time when the weather starts cooling down considerably, so you can consider starting your seeds then. This is all I can assist you with.

    • @WhimsyCrafter
      @WhimsyCrafter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Vaibhavi,thanks for your query.
      1) I have never tried germinating strawberry seeds in normal soil.For seed germination the best medium is cocopeat.If you at all want to use soil,you have to use ultra fine soil.
      2) Once the plant is established,if the temperatures where you stay remains constant,your plants will bear fruit within 6 to 7 months.However usually it takes about a year to actually get to fruition.
      Hope you find this useful.☺️

    Thank you, great information. But, though the music was nice it was loud and competed with your speaking. I found it a difficult balance.
