    We all need to start doing these things again. When I was little my grandmother had 3/4 of her yard just exploding in food. Her strawberry patch was really beyond. As a grown up I can look back and be in awe of how beautiful and tasty those berties were, and how lovingly she cultivated those plants. Heres to Irma. I miss you grandma. And I appreciate all of the self sustaining things you taught me.

      idk how the hell people did it. i mean.... seems like nowadays it's so fkking *technical*! i get the drip irrigation, that just saves time and effort and you don't stress the plant in hot environments. but.... starting seeds early, growlights, greenhouses.... wth were people doing to make gardens work previously??? :,(

    I did the seed drying that you showed and I have yet to plant them. Your channel encouraged me to plant like a crazy woman. So I went to Dollar Tree where they actually have 10 gallon grow bags or at least they did. I planted potatoes and my dirt was wet when I planted them so I was thinking they may just rot because I know your not supposed to plant potatoes in wet ground but I prayed and asked God to bless everything In planted. And wow, they are beautiful! I planted beets, celery, lettuces, squash and bell peppers and green beans. I get told all the time how good everything looks. I've inspired my neighbor to do container planting too. I have yet to grow corn and cucumbers. I will though. I've done all this in baskets that I either used a grow bag inside them or a blue Walmart bag and everything is doing great. I have strawberries that my grandkids come and check regularly. It's all worth it just for that. I showed them how to pinch off the leaves of the beet tops and the tops of lettuce to eat and my 5 yr old grandson loved it. Him and his friend are alot and the plants have just rebounded. I planted perrinial flowers and all kinds are coming up. I found out I can grow flowers from seed quite well. I love it! None of the management has complained either.

    I did this as an experiment last summer. I used moldy strawberries I found in the fridge, sliced skin as thin as I could and placed it on top of the soil. I remember sprinkling a thin layer of soil but hardly covered it. It was washed off anyway when I watered it. I placed the pot right by my other plants so it can get watered but it was only getting partial sun since it was being shaded out by the taller plants. I got a ton of plants and transplanted the healthiest looking ones. I haven’t got any fruits from it but it is winter right now and I planted the strawberries in early Sept. I shall see next spring. - zone10a

      they often don’t bear fruit in the first year, and if they do, It‘s the worst harvest of their 3 year lifespan, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t get the desired result!

    • @VineyardGHS
      @VineyardGHS 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't buy the sweetest strawberries, instead by the ones out of the organic section. Most strawberries that you get from the grocery store are cross-pollinated. In other words the strawberries from the cheap shelf will grow more like a cartoon picture of a strawberry and be nowhere near as sweet. As where the organic strawberries should grow more bumpy with weird shaping but be far more delicious.

      Also as your strawberry start to ripen some of the leaves will start to yellow this is a magnesium deficiency you can feed your strawberries very easily without affecting flavor with a product called calimagic it's calcium and magnesium plant food

      Geez…..wish I knew this before planting this year….wasn’t a bumper yield this year and since it was my first time planting Strawberries, I waited too long in harvesting and the rain made them mushy…..will know better next season…..and I bought June bearing and wish I had bought some Everbearing…..used two flower boxes on the deck…..👵🏻.

      You can grow a lot of plants in vegas it just depends on how much shade you can put them in. We grew some broccoli and it went like crazy. Had to stop because bees love the flowers it produces

    In the US, a lot of fruits and veggies are hybrids or radiated, and won't produce good seeds for fruit. But I threw out some pinto beans from the trash onto the ground, and 4 days later they had sprouted! So I planted them. The trash had inoculated them. Funny.

    • @MintyyIsOdd
      @MintyyIsOdd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If getting fruits/veg that you wanna sprout seeds from, check where the brand supplies the fruit/veg from. If it is from inside USA, it will not be radiated and will be able to grow. I did this, shaved a side of strawberry with yellow seeds on it and decided to use the paper towel method and put the strawberry seed skin thing onto it, I checked it today and although it’s very small and very hard to see there are indeed green sprouts coming from the seeds!

    • @nobody6317
      @nobody6317 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Imagine if the radiation caused a mutation in the genes that cause them to grow something extraordinary
