Binaural audio didn't work for this one, unfortunately. And then right after filming this I noticed the driver's side rear caliper looks stuck, so going to have to open that up and see what needs to be replaced. Brakes have been due for a while on this GX!

Gxs do have sticky calipers. I just did my rear brakes last weekend on my GX470. Small annoyance, but it’s worth the hassle to clean brakes annually to prevent this from happening again. Nice truck!

Oops. They were bad. As in no more rear pad lol. Installed new rear calipers, pads, and rotors. All good now. Glad I inspected these myself, I’ve been hearing “brakes look fine” for the last 20k miles...

That is an ANNOYING Toyota thing. My Tundra does that practically every startup. And hangs on for at least 30-45 secs. Even when warmed up. Replaced the fan clutch. Nope still the same. It's really bad when cold. Sounds like the engine is being floored.

I bought a 2010 back in March - your videos really swayed my decision. Easily the best car I've ever owned, I can't believe how many boxes this thing ticks! There's something about used Lexus' where they've been screwed together just right, the whole car feels solid and like-new despite the many miles.

An equivalent Range Rover would be at the end of it's life with multiple warnings on. This Lexus is just getting broken in. There will be some wear and tear components on the suspension that will need replacing at some point but that applies to all vehicles. All major components are bulletproof on this vehicle.

We were set to get a 2020 GX but couldn’t make a plan happen. Ended up getting a used 2008 GX 470. This thing is absolutely phenomenal off-road and all we did is replace the stock tires and took off the runningboards. As of 2020 the GX still doesn’t have Apple CarPlay though. Great update!

Hey dude, I love my GX so far. It was your videos that had me dead set on getting mine. It's a white 2012 base model, black interior with a couple upgrades, no air suspension though. We are at 91k (put about 4k miles on it since I got it in March, bought at 86500), no problems other than archaic head unit. Applied marine rustproofing underneath so we'll see how it looks next year. Other than the gas mileage in the city (my Miata helps with that issue), it is a fantastic ride and so smooth and honestly not bad to work on so far. Excited to use it to tow craigslist cars later this year when I get another bonus to waste on some fun projects. These are cheaper than a lot of 4Runners that are the same model year with similar mileage but you get bang for the buck. Oddly enough, it even cost less on my insurance than if I had bought a friend's 2011 IS250. Thanks for your detailed coverage of this vehicle!

Hello, I work at a tire shop I balance tires every day. I have worked in different places. The main problem about tire balance is the techs. The tire balance machine has to be calibrated every two to three months. The machine has to be perfectly calibrated otherwise it will never balance tires correctly. Many tire shops are very bad at calibrating their machines. They will also unplug the machines overnight. That will through the calibration. At the shop where I work at many people will bring in new tires from different places to have balanced. Every time we balance we never have anyone come back. If they do come back, is to thank us for a smooth balanced ride. Nice vehicle im about to be getting a 2012 gx Im really excited

My wife convinced me to get one of these instead of a Sienna. Our primary purpose for this thing is just hauling the family. No offroading whatsoever. The thing is insanely fun to drive, however every single bump on the road is felt inside the cabin. Im going to replace the shocks and struts this weekend and hopefully that can imrpove things.

TheTopher Thank you!!! For the update... Definitely agree on all of your points. The V8 is what makes this a great "Beauty and the Beast" Type of vehicle. Beauty, for all of its luxuries, and Beast...Well.. That throaty V8... We own a previous Gen GX and love it.. But have always thought in the back of my mind, if Adding a 460 to our stable would make or break the enjoyment I feel out of driving the 470. Again, adding newer nicer amenities is always welcomed, but kind of want to see what the next gen(Poss Twin Snails) brings to the table. Thanks again for obliging to my asking for an update.

Inheriting modifications can come with a lot of unforeseen complications so having your own documentation on alignment changes and whatnot can really help out whoever works on it next. On another note - Have you ever looked into the GROM VLine system you could install inline with the factory infotainment? Basically an Android based system that you could run Apple CarPlay & Android Auto while still retaining the factory system's full functionality. I would love to see you test that before moving on from this GX. I need to know if it's worth a crap haha. Thanks for the reviews!

I've heard they work pretty well on the 470s, but have been having issues on the 460. May have gotten better recently though, I haven't checked up on it in about 6 months. That would be awesome to get apple carplay on the archaic touch screen heh heh

There are some companies that have a way of putting apple carplay into the old lexus infotainment systems. It is expensive though, but might be worth it if you don't plan on changing cars soon.

Dude, does your GX have a slight lean on the right? I also have a 2012 unit and I noticed it has about an inch and a half lean on the right even on level paved roads. Some say its the KDSS leveling. Any thoughts?

Where do you recommend finding a good road force balance machine? I have an FJ cruiser and have had vibration issues that nobody seems to be able to fix. Discount tire road force balancing didn't do the trick.

    • @TheTopher
      @TheTopher  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Dang. I had a set of tires I couldn’t get balanced either and they were out of round from sitting. I got these fixed at discount tire, but you could try going back if it hasn’t been long

dont sell it or modify it
keep it stock and drive it for the next 5 10 years
for apple car play you can always take the old infotainment system out and put a new one with full touch screen and apple car play
and also you can change the front and rear light to modern ones if you want
