A look back at the harman kardon Soundsticks

  • I recently moved and I was setting up harman kardon Soundsticks in the office. I purchased these speakers almost twenty years ago to match the first iMac, which was also translucent. All these years later the speakers still sound great and work like new. And they still look pretty cool. As an extra bonus we also take a look at the Blue Snowball USB mic.

    I was looking into getting a set of these quite a few years ao, and about a week later I found a set in a dumpster, no power supply and the soundsticks themselves were split, I jerryrigged some power and hot glued the sticks back together and they worked!

    Had the exact same speakers as you showed here. Was very satisfied with them for the most part. The upstairs room my PC was set up in was right over our kitchen downstairs. Every time I decided to play one of my PC games, my wife was IMMEDIATELY aware I was no longer "working". The base unit was on the floor and those base sounds would shake the walls downstairs. Down side: mine only lasted about 8 years. Power surge victim, I think (and, yes, they were behind a 3k joule protector)

    • @RonaldBrown59
      @RonaldBrown59  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great story, thanks for sharing you fond memories of the speakers. And sorry about the power surge sending them to a early death. I've always had mine on a surge protector, but I'm not sure of what the spec's were on it. I hope I get another few good years out of them. And thanks for watching.

    For anyone that can't find the volume buttons, they're not buttons they're touch capacitive buttons on the bottom front of the speaker where the hole is, you will see two silver "furnishing," these are the volume buttons. You don't need to press them in, you just tap your finger on them.
    The knob on the back is for bass volume and power when pushed in.

    Awesome Blast from the Past!!
    I do wish the quality of products were still the same. USB has taken over everything anymore...
    That "plug" RCA male btw.
    They still sound awesome. A client of mine has one at his office desk. I tested it, it sounds great!
    Yes the knob is for the sub amp.
    They still make and sell those to the best of my knowledge. They are "of course" wireless now, BT...
    I must confess though, I was never crazy about the see-though look on those or the Apple see-through look.
    Great post Ron!
