Vishwanath had a fan following akin to a film star. In Bangalore during 1970s and early 1980s he was next most popular person after legendary actor Dr.Rajkumar. We fans used to address Vishy also as "Annavaru" just like Dr.Rajkumar was addressed affectionately. We used to bunk School and College to watch his batting. Whenever in Bangalore Test he failed in his batting, we thousands of fans used to walk out from the stadium without bothering to watch the remaining part of the match. In my opinion, keeping aside all records and total runs scored by any batsman, Vishy was the greatest entertainer as a batsman and the first "Super Star" Cricketer of India
