Fun fact: A Shiver is another word for a group of sharks, a Frye is a group of eels, and the “Man” in Big Man is short for “Manta” cuz Big Man’s a manta ray
On the scroll dealing with the three lights, you can actually see the logo that is tripled to make deepcuts’ logo so there is definitely a connection. Also Octarians are severed tentacles of octolings, which is a reference to how real octopi have a nerve cluster that functions as an extra brain in each of their arms that lets them move independently when cut off
They are Shiver, Frye, and Big Man's individual clan symbols. They appear on the backs of their respective splatfest tees and Shiver's is on her fan.

There are three of them on the orange sticky note on the sunken scroll. I’m not describing it well admittedly but it’s the thing that you see right before all of their broadcasts

16:50 This was the letter the previous agent 3 got when the became captain. As stated by "promoted to captain" in the scroll itself and that sticky note is for the captain's hat with headphones not a vehicle.
The alterna logs mention "freshness" as being some unquantifiable, but universal property of sea creatures. It's something that others can sense or notice as shopkeepers comment when you hit certain level milestones, but whether "freshness" is simply a way of describing how stylish or fashionable someone is, or if it's some metaphysical property isn't clear. To put it more simply, levels = freshness, freshness = ??? All sea creatures have and recognize "freshness" but it's not clear what it is.
Freshness seems to be a sense inherited from the crystals of alternia before being re-absorbed by the marine life [mostly squids but]
I assume its a triple pun, fresh as in food that the alternians wanted to see, fresh and crisp air they likely didn't have but wanted none the less and also fresh as in 90's cuz I guess they just were really big 90's fans
Now we know that thoughts can physically materialize, maybe of pure will of squib and humans freshness as a concept became, metaphysical and transcendent of time itself and everything that was ever "fresh" was added to it but thats just, a long stretch
15:30 on the mobile app (splatnet 3) there is a mode called the wandercrust. In this, you can use your points earned from matches to get backgrounds for your phone, but that's not important. The "mode" features Crusty Sean visiting these places, as he is on a vacation, so that creature in the scroll is most definetly Crusty Sean. (I just checked and this is confirmed because the exact same artwork is in the title) :)
You can actually get a special piece of headgear if you complete all the objectives in the app (you just need to put down a few turf points you earn hy just playing to complete the objectives)

One of the symbols of the three lights is on Shiver's Fan. Another interpretation for 'three lights" could be the joining of Inklings, Octarians and Salmonoid to save the world. Three races normally at odds with each other, or three 'lights' in a sense. Smallfry doesn't change until Octavio joins the party to help after all, and as the leader of the Octarians, it can be argued that he is their 'light'. Idols of all kinds, especially the Squid Sisters, are the 'Light' of Inklings everywhere, and Smallfry is a 'light' of hope, as his kind are being hunted down but he shows that they can be friendly.
Frye uses some sort of wind instrament in her fight to call to her eels.... And the symbol for her part of the trio is a shell. While I don't think we can see what she's playing.... what if it's some sort of flute made from a shell?
On the Squidbeak platoon page, the sticky note actually contains a drawing of a modified captain's hat, the same one the old Agent Three, who is now a captain, is wearing. This page could be referencing how they were promoted to being a captain since Splatoon 2.
All three of these symbols can also be seen in their studio, but far away enough that it's not visible during an Anarchy Splatcast broadcasting.

The three lights, I theorize, is supposed to be Inklings, Octolings, and Salmonids becoming apex in the new world, but I’m not 100% as I feel the DLC is going to further expand Salmonid lore. We still haven’t had a Big Run event, afterall! 😊

16:22 Sunken scroll 19 is the letter to the First agent 3, promoting them to Captain. The submarine thing? is just the captain's hat that they wear. It's just the hat cuttlefish wears in the first game and the ear covers agent 3 wears.

7:27 Those three symbols are used on the back of the Splatfest tees with each one corresponding to a member of Deep Cut. The one on the left is Shiver's, the top is Frye's, and the right is Big Man's. If I remember correctly, the icons also appear on the Deep Cut set to the left of the lobby. Also, the symbol on the left appears on Shiver's fan.
On sunken scroll 19, that post-it note is captain 3’s hat, you can see them wearing it at all times, I thought it would be easily recognizable for you since you have all the scrolls, also that scroll is for captain 3 when they took the captain job when Craig Cuttlefish retired.

Im pretty sure that the half circle is shiver because in the Splatfest results team gear won and shiver was super happy while these purple symbols were falling I think that if big man or frye would had won it would show their icon too.

On one of the websites for Splatoon, there's like this character relationship chart. It mentions Lil Judd wanting to backstab Judd, but he can't because he's too small.
But if someone's researching the cats, it's possible that the older Agent 3, or now captain, is researching the cats, as Captain Agent 3 thinks that Judd is suspicious. Seems like the cats might maybe play a role soon. Plus, they do probably have something in common with that psycho telephone tartar.
The three lights might be the three clans / ancestors of deep cut (because we can see their logo in the news and others and the sunken scrolls tell us that they’re each in a different clan
17:11 I need to point out that it's the side view of the Hat Captain 3 wears in the story mode of the game, the page is talking about the original agent 3's promotion to captain.
The symbols in the three light scroll are also Shiver, Frye and Big Man's symbols ( Like in the past two splatfest you can see shiver's when she was announced the winner)
3:04 Notably, the light on the far left is likely the Shark Light, since at the end of both Splatfests so far, since Shiver won both, that symbol showed up like virtual confetti on the screen, so if Frye or Big Man's teams win in future Splatfests, then I suspect those symbols will fly up for them as well
The other two lights in the 3 lights sunken scroll are Shiver and Frye’s symbols, Shivers is on her fan, i think Frye’s is on one of her charm things, I don’t remember

Couple things:
1. There are actually three streams of light when little dude transforms. They swirl into him in a fan pattern. It's a bit hard to notice cause the screen fills up with marine life imagery first. But they are definitely there!
2. The symbol with the half circle and a rectangle definitely references Shiver, as the patterning within the rectangle references the striation of raw shark meat. It looks very similar to wood, so I can see why it might not be as easy to notice! I think the third symbol could also be raw eel meat, but the resemblance isn't nearly as uncanny. So it's hard to say.
3. Surprised no one pointed out that the manga page looks like a reference to JOJO's Bizarre Adventure. At least the style seems to be referencing it. I've never read JoJo, and have only watched some of the first two arcs, but I do recognize the style from all the memes out there.
for number 2, i've seen someone else say it's kamaboko, which is a japanese fish cake thats a long semicircle on a block of wood! so yeah it could just be a block of wood lol. also, i recommend trying kamaboko, it tastes rlly good and has some different color variations :oo i dont know of any that are blue tho

As for the imagery, I feel it could go any way, I think it's all an allusion to edible seafood. And lots of fish have similar wood like striation in their meat haha! Considering shivers very traditional Japanese presentation I wouldn't be surprised if it was referencing a traditional Japanese fish cake meal too! And the shark meat reading would work with her shark theming!

My guess is when Deep Cut mentioned 3 lights, they were referring to the 3 prominent streams of light going into Small Fry
2:59 this are actually Shiver, Frye and Big Man’s symbols respectively from left to right (but could also refer to each of their clans)
The scroll talking about eel manipulation mentioned the promise land, and the only other place we’ve seen that mentioned was when tar tar was “helping” us get there. Either this could be a call back to the octo expansion or it has a deeper meaning.
Keep in mind that this is the English translation and must be taken with a grain of salt, the Japanese version might not have this overlap in phrases

In Splatoon 2, he asks the player if they’re ready to join something bigger than themselves when they first try Salmon Run, similar to what Tartar asks before “taking Agent 8 to the promised land”, and we all know where Grizz ended up.
The promised land could also refer to the world outside/above Alterna.

The "Submarine" in the Craig Cuttlefish Employment Scroll, is actually Old Agent 3's new hat sincd he's captain now.
On the second seascroll page you can see on the orange note that there is the three parts of the deepcut logo and also the half circle light is on shiver's fan.
Also on the bottom left of the page you can see the three lights and that they seem to combine to make one light kinda like at the start of every newscast you see the three parts of the deepcut logo combine into one
And in page 19 that drawing is of old agent three's hat btw
The idea of the lore getting even crazier has me so excited for what Nintendo could bring to the table in the DLC and eventually in the far future with potential new game modes and the 4th game years later after 3s release.

With the three lights scroll you can actually notice that the bottom left symbol is on Shiver's fan! The one on the top sorta looks like the deepcut logo too but I otherwise haven't seen that one anywhere
The scroll of Crusty Sean has to do with the Wandercrust. This is a feature in the Nintendo Switch app where you can trade in ink points to help support his adventure across the Splatlands. At the end you unlock a special piece of head gear and some special Splashtag names.
2:14 could be referring to the three swirls of light, the combination of Octavio, SS, and Deep Cut performing together, or even just deep cut themselves.

Am I the only one who thinks it is hilarious the creators of Splatoon 3 decided to make everything in this game related to the number 3. Even the lore...
The three lights scroll represents big man, shiver and frye (or at least their ancestors or something). The bottom right light is obviously a manta ray which represents big man or someone else in his family/clan, the bottom left light has the symbol from shivers fan and from the fan which is also on the sunken scroll with shivers ancestor and sharks, and finally, the top light is most likely representing frye but i couldn't find that exact symbol anywhere from what i saw so it could be representing someone else, however i doubt that.
On the scroll talking about the lights, if you look at the bottom left of the entire page the three symbols are all there and they are next to a line drawing of the deep cut logo, on an orange post-it-note on the same sunken scroll page, there is also the three swirls that make up the deep cut logo and you can see the grey and yellow colour palettes from the top right of the splatcast news on this particular image of the three swirls. Just below that particular image on the left there is also another small line drawing of the deep cut logo again.
Personally i think that the all of the logos refer to shiver, frye and big mans clans, i also think that the top logo is an eel circling something as there is a little tail tip or something at the top of the circle, i think the bottom left logo is the sun setting on the ocean and i think the bottom right logo is just a manta ray.
On the squidbeak splatoon page, the post-it-note contains a drawing of a modified captain's hat, the same one agent 3, who is now the captain of the squidbeak splatoon, is wearing in game. This page is most certainly referencing how they were promoted to being the captain in between splatoon 2 and 3 as in the photo cuttlefish is wearing his retirement clothes and holding the letter of appointment whilst joyfully smiling with the squid sisters as they are most likely giving this letter to agent 3 during this image.
The page with crusty sean on a bike references the splatnet 3 wandercrust which is where you help a character go through different areas by using points earned trough painting turf to unlock different rewards for different areas such as wallpapers, stickers and in game gear. It is definitely crusty sean as the app says that the current challenger for the wandercrust is indeed crusty sean.

at 3:05 the symbols actually represent frye, shiver, and big man. It is seen on the back of a splatfest shirt and corresponds to what them you are on.
The other two symbols are for shiver and Frye. You can see shiver’s on her sprinkler of doom. You can see shiver send frye’s in the background of the news broadcast.
When they got a hat confused for a ship...besides that part of the video I’m glad you covered this. There’s some details I didn’t noticed.
So couple things I wanted to mentioned that I theorize for a few things you were questioning
-the thing that shiver/deep cut was referencing as the “three lights” during the little buddy transformation scene, was the in the visual. If you look at it closely, you can see that it appears that 3 lights are being swirled in.
-the three light symbols are the clan symbols/family crests of big man, Frye, and shiver
-the symbol that’s speculated to be Freys kinda looks like three eels if you look hard enough, rushing at you like in her boss fight
-saw someone else point out that shivers symbol seems to redeemable a fan
The three icons are what appear when one of the idols win a splatfest, the bullet shaped one appears when shiver won ,the manta ray is obviously big man so the bean looking thing must be fry
At 2:55 the three symbols in the top right corner are deep cut’s logos. The bottom left is Shiver’s and can be seen on her fan, and Frye is on the top. You can see all their logos on the backs of the Splatfest tee’s too.

What are your thoughts on these headcanons I thought of for Captain 3:
They mostly communicate with sign language. Though Callie and Marie translate on their behalf.
They still have trauma over the events of the Octo Expansion. Everyone chooses a dried stain of Tartar over an eye.
They have gotten out of shape (as in the weight gain type) and only gets agile when doing Specials. Perhaps their Captain duties never game them time to splat it out.

I think I know the symbols on the three lights scroll. I think its Shiver, Frye, and Big Man. Because there is a manta ray symbol and when they were showing the results for the Splatfest shiver won and a bunch of symbols with a half circle and a bar under it popped up so that's what I think.

4:31 to answer your question: originally Octolings were cut from tentacles just like octarians and just so happened to evolve more, However this was (thankfully) retconned all the way back in Splatoon 2. As far as their lore goes now, they seem to have kids and what-not the same way Inklings do, and the octarians are just tentacles cut from their hair that are given a less intelligent form life in some way.
Something I wanna say, Marygold is straight up Ms. Puff, what I means is that she has a background as a criminal but is just a regular NPC in game, nothing crazy folks, if she wanted to do something she could just kidnap one after going at recon, thing that doesn't happens.
The three symbols in the second scroll are also on the sprinklers of doom in tri color battles.
Octoling lore is that they are born like inklings but when they cut their tentacle Octarians are born and the more tentacles on one the smarter.

I think that the three tribes are the descendants of the three lights. This could explain why you can see the symbols for the three lights on banners where the news is shot, with there respective idols color.

1:25 I was rewatching splatfest results and when team rock and team gear won the bottom left symbol was on screen (like how pearls icon would be on screen if she won) so in theory if Frye or big mans team were to win the other 2 symbols would be there for them
I believe the three lights are the ancestors of Deep Cut, the two lights symbols you didn't get is that the first one on the under left side is the symbol of octolings because when you see the splatfest when shiver win the symbol will appear on screen. It is to show that the deep cuts are the blood of their ancestors who save the splatfest.

Honestly after the final splatfest of 2 and the events of the Octo expansion it might make sense, between Marina potentially taking loosing the splatocolypse not so great like Callie did, and pearl shredding her vocal cords and not being able to really sing at top performance for a while, I think them joininga band is probably a Logical action, at least to get away from Inkopolis for a while. How they’re gonna tie that into the dlc I have no idea on but it’s nice to know the two of them are doing well
sunken scroll 20 is actually from a beta artwork of the squid sisters, originally when the news played in splatoon 1, it would show callie and marie talking podcast style in the beta design, but in the finished design they just have a TV showing the stages
I you look at Shiver’s fan you can see the same simple on one of the 3 lights
For a lot of these scrolls the Japanese versions probably have the truest lore. The English version is only a translation and can leave some things out or get some things wrong
also marigold is the name of the staff member that helps you use recon, table turf and gives you food. I know from a table turf card that says Marigold and has a picture of her.
At 3:05, the one that looks like a half circle is shiver’s symbol and the other is Frye’s. We know this because when Shiver won the splatfests, that symbol appears on the screen (as confetti). In her signature color, blue. Im guessing if Frye won, it would rain those symbols. Same for Big Man
Hi! I'm here to clarify some things you didn't understand/some mistakes you made, even though your takes are quite interesting and this is a pleasant video to watch!
1:57 the three lights are most likely the three splatlands clans, Shiver's which we don't actually know the name, Frye's which is called the Onaga clan and Big Man's which is called the Manta clan. Their ancestors probably prevented the grrat flood and saved people from the disaster. Now, since Shiver, Frye and Big Man are the descendants of the three clans they're on the portable shrines during the splatfest.
15:09 This is Crusty Sean, he just took his "tempura coat" off which was confirmed as a really bad fashion taste lol. You can help him through his journey in the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app by spending inking points you can get by playing turf war or anarchy battles!
16:22 this is a letter of promotion for Splatoon 1's agent 3 which became the current Captain. The ship is just their hat in splatoon 1 + the admiral's cap.
17:59 This is most likely just a squid from the times were Humans were still alive in Alterna. The logs actually say that they used crystals inside squid's heads to power the screens that produced a sky and other things. Mr Grizz used the same drying instructions to steal Cuttlefish's crystal in his head.
19:54 A while ago when the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion was released, Nintendo released a relationship chart and we learnt that Lil' Judd had an "in-fur-iority complex" and wanted to eliminate and replace Judd. So this is just Lil Judd's plan to eliminate Judd but is actually unsuccessful.
