No. We don’t have canals like yours in England. People do live on boats in Canada but usually along the western coast like the Vancouver harbours. They are usually sailing boats. Pleasure Boating is huge on the prairies where we have thousands of lakes but winter is too cold for boat life. This prairie girl can only dream! Lol
Oh that's so interesting! We're never sure which countries used canals. Sailing boats look so complicated! Much more challenging than our little narrowboat I'm sure 😅 I bet it gets very cold there, I can't imagine how cold it would get on a boat! But it's so picturesque too! Hopefully our little adventure gives you the chance to live the boat life vicariously at least!

Yay finally a fridge!!!! :) You wont know what to do with your perishables now :) The little cinema looked nice and I seen that film over Christmas, I enjoyed it too. I think if you are worried about the fridge and power, maybe get your electrics overhauled, more importantly a correct monitor so you can see the drain and power remaining, but I'm sure that isn't a cheap thing!!! Really enjoyed the vlog :)
Haha! Exactly! We're spoilt for choice now! 😅 It was a lovely little cinema, very vintage looking inside, and a great movie! We have a Victron battery monitor ready to go, but our wiring setup is a little odd, so needs a bit of attention before we can install it properly. I'm wondering if you've bought a multimeter yet? We had a 3-way fridge freezer in our motorhome, gas, 12v, 240v. We were just as excited every time we installed an appliance though. Just started episode 26, still lovin' it. :)

Thank you so much! It was such a big win to finally get a fridge. So far so good on the power, but it's all one big learning curve! Rupey the rabbit does use a litter tray. He's pretty good with it, but can get progressively lazy if we don't stay on top of it. As long as we pick up any rogue poops and pop them back in the tray he's pretty good at it 😊 The marinas are brilliant! They can be costly but they're so convenient and it's nice to support the companies in the boating community. The potato cooker is excellent although it still needs a bit of practise. Ah yes! Heidi! The Narrowboat Pirate. We watched that vlog too, it was hilarious! 😅
Ben and Emily who are narrowboaters have a car/van, so have you considered this as an option? They bicycle to and from their car once their narrowboat is secured. It may help you guys to do what they do. Just wondering.
@@BoatTime I'd check with a marine mechanic or a chandlers should be able to help advise. Taking advice from the community is often good but they don't have to pay the bill if they tell you wrong. I wouldn't be comfortable using just water in an engine when the environment could be freezing. It's one thing to burst a pipe and quite another if the water freezes and cracks your engine. You would need to use a an environmentally friendly type of antifreeze (marine / non toxic / RV) but if it was my boat and it's a sealed system I'd want to find out why you need to top it up particularly if topping up regularly as it means the water is escaping somewhere and then using an environmentally friendly antifreeze. Also a good antifreeze will have some sort of corrosion inhibitor and stop mould and algae growth.

We turn the engine on a couple of times a day so it generally keeps it warm and prevents it from freezing too much, but we are going to check now about the anti freeze thank you! Dont worry, we hadnt topped it up for about 5 months so it deffo lasted plenty :)

There was some in there leftover from last time, phew! But we are now gonna pop out and buy some more!! Thank you again!! Life saver 😊😊
If that is a LEC under counter fridge then, according to the specs. it's 12v 1.14Ah (average) which is just shy of 14 watts. That is considerably less than a 220v (60-100w) fridge. Assuming the fridge compressor runs 12 hours out of 24 then a 100Ah battery (theoretically) will run the fridge for 7 days. However, as you know, you don't ever want to run a lead/acid battery flat as it shortens life. So, if you only have one 100Ah battery then a couple of days between charges should be OK. If you have 2 x100Ah then 4 days. Of course this assumes you don't use the batteries for anything else and as everything works in theory (fantastic place, wish I lived there) your actual experience may differ, this comment is purely to give you an idea.
Yep! It's a LEC 😊 That's really useful to know thank you for crunching the numbers for us! We have 4x105Ah batteries, but because of our work on laptops we have to charge fairly regularly in winter anyway. That's great to know though, we really appreciate it as it can be very complicated!

Think of lecky like water, one of your batteries holds 105 gallons and you shouldn't take out more that 50% without a refill so that gives you 210 gallons between 4 batteries of lecky to use before you damage your batteries by emptying them beyond 50%.Your fridge uses 1.14 (amps) gallons per hour. That gives you a theoretical fortnight (assuming the fridge is on 12 hrs a day) before you need to recharge your power bank. However that isn't real world as there are lots of factors to consider and you also have other items to run. My notebook (for example) requires 130w. That on 12v is 10.8 amps (Watts/Volts = Amps). That only gives you 19 hours of running time before you hit the magic 50% discharge value. Hope that helps, especially the water analogy.

I'm wondering if you've bought a multimeter yet? We had a 3-way fridge freezer in our motorhome, gas, 12v, 240v. We were just as excited every time we installed an appliance though. Just started episode 26, still lovin' it. :)

May I ask does the rabbit use a litter box? I have read they are very easy to train. Enjoyed all the different things in this video. The marinas are very nice it’s great that you can get parts and supplies very easy. The potato cooker looks nice sure it’s better than the foil too. Saw someone use the same kind on another video yesterday unfortunately they burned their food put the entire thing in the fire and over cooked the item. Susan

Rupey the rabbit does use a litter tray. He's pretty good with it, but can get progressively lazy if we don't stay on top of it. As long as we pick up any rogue poops and pop them back in the tray he's pretty good at it 😊
The marinas are brilliant! They can be costly but they're so convenient and it's nice to support the companies in the boating community. The potato cooker is excellent although it still needs a bit of practise. Ah yes! Heidi! The Narrowboat Pirate. We watched that vlog too, it was hilarious! 😅
Ben and Emily who are narrowboaters have a car/van, so have you considered this as an option? They bicycle to and from their car once their narrowboat is secured. It may help you guys to do what they do. Just wondering.
We like the freedom of not having a car/van and it’s quite rare that we need one! 😊 They are expensive too!

When you top your engine coolant water up do you use water or an antifreeze mix?

@@BoatTime I'd check with a marine mechanic or a chandlers should be able to help advise. Taking advice from the community is often good but they don't have to pay the bill if they tell you wrong. I wouldn't be comfortable using just water in an engine when the environment could be freezing. It's one thing to burst a pipe and quite another if the water freezes and cracks your engine. You would need to use a an environmentally friendly type of antifreeze (marine / non toxic / RV) but if it was my boat and it's a sealed system I'd want to find out why you need to top it up particularly if topping up regularly as it means the water is escaping somewhere and then using an environmentally friendly antifreeze. Also a good antifreeze will have some sort of corrosion inhibitor and stop mould and algae growth.

We turn the engine on a couple of times a day so it generally keeps it warm and prevents it from freezing too much, but we are going to check now about the anti freeze thank you!
Dont worry, we hadnt topped it up for about 5 months so it deffo lasted plenty :)

If that is a LEC under counter fridge then, according to the specs. it's 12v 1.14Ah (average) which is just shy of 14 watts. That is considerably less than a 220v (60-100w) fridge. Assuming the fridge compressor runs 12 hours out of 24 then a 100Ah battery (theoretically) will run the fridge for 7 days. However, as you know, you don't ever want to run a lead/acid battery flat as it shortens life. So, if you only have one 100Ah battery then a couple of days between charges should be OK. If you have 2 x100Ah then 4 days. Of course this assumes you don't use the batteries for anything else and as everything works in theory (fantastic place, wish I lived there) your actual experience may differ, this comment is purely to give you an idea.
Yep! It's a LEC 😊 That's really useful to know thank you for crunching the numbers for us! We have 4x105Ah batteries, but because of our work on laptops we have to charge fairly regularly in winter anyway. That's great to know though, we really appreciate it as it can be very complicated!
@@BoatTime It's not that complicated. Think of lecky like water, one of your batteries holds 105 gallons and you shouldn't take out more that 50% without a refill so that gives you 210 gallons between 4 batteries of lecky to use before you damage your batteries by emptying them beyond 50%.Your fridge uses 1.14 (amps) gallons per hour. That gives you a theoretical fortnight (assuming the fridge is on 12 hrs a day) before you need to recharge your power bank. However that isn't real world as there are lots of factors to consider and you also have other items to run. My notebook (for example) requires 130w. That on 12v is 10.8 amps (Watts/Volts = Amps). That only gives you 19 hours of running time before you hit the magic 50% discharge value. Hope that helps, especially the water analogy.
