- One in 10 rough sleepers in London is under-25, according to figures from City Hall. Charities say the problem is getting worse because of the pandemic with issues like youth unemployment, strained family relations and domestic violence made worse due to lockdown.

I went London recently to watch football and i must of seen over a 100 homeless I should e this one girl must of been 19 a fiver and she burst out crying and hugged me

It’s gentrification: most places used to be a affordable for the average Londoner but now that’s gone out the window. Wages, can’t keep up with inflation. You also have MNC’s buying up ex council land, and building plush apartments going for £700,000 a pop.

The government of this country and the others needs to build affordable or council homes to actually tackle this problem it's going to get worse and they will keep saying they can't afford it.

New Yorker here, it's similar here with the homeless problem. I feel like it's more of a drug and addiction problem more than purely economic, and the addictions probably also traces back to mental health. These people are trapped in a cycle, and I feel so hopeless when I see them.

I think this is similar reason to some unemployment. If homeless people are treated for addictions and mental health maybe it would be easier for them to maintain a job and get one that’s a good fit for them?

First time visiting london im shocked how many beggars/homeless people i’ve seen everytime i give somethink it reallly breaks my heart
I know back in 1977 I lived in London; just to try and find a room I could afford was very difficult.......I worked 2 jobs, one full time and one p/t......I evenually left London as I couldn't handle the accommodation problem any more.
That's the year I was born. I'm from the states, and I've always wanted to go to Europe. Probably won't ever get the chance though. If you can believe it, I've never been up in a airplane flying even lol.

I was homeless two years ago and was so for 8 years I am doing well known thanks to giving up drugs and help from good people

The councils need sorting out. If your young no health issues or kids. The council won’t help. The problem is massive around the country. Even when you go in an hostel. Around 600 plus rent a month. It’s like a vicious circle. Go in the hostel u won’t be able to get a job as the rent is high rocking.
Yes some of the charities take full advantage you will be in a room with sink sharing other facilities with 6 other people being charged more or them claiming the housing benefit from the council that cost more than a flat

@@deedeesodelicious0 I see why rent is so high. As the staff have to be paid depending on charity. There also have to pay for electric and other bills. And there also have to pay rent themselves for who’s building it is. When I was in a hostel the rent was close to £650. But places for people owned the building that the charity was running so there would get a good fraction of that rent.

Was a dump no support from the workers at all property was falling apart everyone had to get together and complain I know someone else in kilburn with the same experience place has cockroaches and mice there are definitely some taking advantage of the system we also had to pay a surcharge to cover utility bills and had a cleaning rota between us in the house for communal areas the surcharge was similar to what I pay for a large 2 bedroom house now

I was lucky that I had with who to move and to take care of me for a time ,otherwise I would be like this girl.Even if it's just close to be hurt still matters,those things will mark your way of being with people and who to trust if you can't trust your own family.I hope they receive the help they need to live under a roof.

As a mostly retired social worker I really like the documentary on TH-cam called Seattle's Dying and it's sequel.
It promotes the Rhode Island model of dealing with the homeless as being best.
I would have to agree.
It's not compassionate to leave people on the street that will die and heard others along the way.
The Rhode Island model dedicates a prison just for the homeless.
Not the student going to college who lives out of his car but the chronic homeless who choose it as a lifestyle.
I'm talking about the drug addicted mentally ill. Talking about the squatters who break local laws regularly.
In the prison you differentiate the ones that are so mentally ill who will never know how to brush their teeth versus the drug addicted, the mentally ill or both.
The graduates of this program are thankful and say they would have ended up dead if it wasn't for intervention.
The great homeless industrial complex is costing way too much money and doing way too little care. Truly special interest at the trough of the taxpayer.
These tiny home villages are crazy expensive when we could have army barracks that people can voluntarily live in.
You staff it with tons of mental health workers and social workers in case managers who get these people out of the barracks into housing in a community that they can afford. You cannot expect Los Angeles to be affordable for everyone.
Yes we need low cost housing for people who work in the service industry.
The homeless do commit crimes but we're not prosecuting so the ones that refuse the army barracks solution for getting off the street then can find themselves in this dedicated prison.
Society has got to stop feeding the homeless. If you feed them you only encourage this lifestyle.
Hardly anybody makes a change in their life unless it gets painful enough.
Not everyone will survive this process and many people will die but that is a fact of life. People are dying constantly everywhere, whether they're homeless or not.
Letting homeless have this lifestyle is not compassionate. It is not freedom. It's a lifestyle that brings death, mental illness, is a danger to others and a plague on the city with blight.
People work their whole life to buy a home and tourists save up to go on vacation but when the homeless take over an area what's the point of the American dream of saving and working hard and doing the responsible thing that leads to a lifestyle of abundance.
Success in abundance is nothing to apologize for.
The taxes of these citizens should be used in a productive good way, not wasted on crazy programs that are failing us all.
This lifestyle has got to come to an end!
The open-minded politicians, the homeless industrial complex are supposed to be the grown ups in the room yet they're failing all of us.
We need to get back to common Sense. This notion of personal freedom and expression is crazy when it tears down property values and shutters businesses and is a danger to everyone.
Taking over sidewalks, feces, urine and danger that makes our city unlivable is not okay. It is not compassionate to the homeless or the taxpayers.
With the Rhode Island model there will be some who upon graduation will only be able to live in a group home. They've done so much damage to their brain that it may take years if ever to come back on line where they can live independently.
We have to have a carrot and stick approach. An option to get off the street. Yet if not chosen then involuntary lockup in the dedicated prison staffed with workers to help them regain their skills to live independently.
I'm not willing to be open-minded about this even as an old social worker.

Well I saw a documentary " The council in London" (something along those line). But yh basically, a Romanian family (a couple and 3 kids) literally landed in the UK, headed straight to the council (housing department), and the Romanian family instantly received accommodation; on the spot. Despite arriving in the UK 4 hours before being sheltered for free by the British government!

Just do what downtown Santa Monica is doing, they are using n renovating about 8 vacant buildings to house their homeless,
or vacant or liveable abandoned houses/buildings that could also be renovated into one person rooms or 2 - 3 bedrooms for bigger families....

It's a complex problem, just giving them a house will not solve the problem. They need mental support and job. Mean while this drug culture is also to blame, and government should do bit more to control it.

This person is just one of millions of homeless families and the world is really going astray, we humans who do not even have mercy on our fellow human beings, why should God have mercy on us? . Instead of crying and pretending to be a loved one, let 's educate ourselves with our income and raise our level of thinking to a global level to shout out to the embarrassed global community. Let's show our protest with a few tweets every day, with a few simple messages, so that little by little, these protests will be added and the international community will think about a fundamental change in its path. We can help big campaigns to fight homelessness with big tweets. We can take care of the homeless, help them find jobs, help educate them, with a few tweets. We, who live comfortably in our homes, live comfortably in warm weather, owe at least this to them.

Why should the wealthy give handouts for what they've worked for? The resources are there for homeless people, especially in the UK. I'll always treat homeless people with kindness, but they need to help themselves first. It's a complex problem yes, but again, there shouldn't be an expectation put on those well-off to coddle the homeless, especially when there's so many programs and help already available to them.
The homeless also have something called "personal responsibility" like everyone else.
i failed in school at 16 years old i was force out of school and started to cry i felt like i fell at the ending of the plate i moved out of england 1983 and never look back so i will never trust england again even they offer me better today. i stayed at hartly hotel while on the dole

One of my mates was Homeless for 7 years,He told me how he survived all that while,He dug a hole in to the ground,Then built a home in there and a chimney, and an upstairs floor and a roof,He also put installation in the walls,Had Chimney fire going on a lot in the middle of freezing cold Winters,All ways toasty worm,So an idea for other Homeless people to survive better

the gov completely failed to provide training and supports for young people in this countries to be ready for 21st centry economy.... there is no job for low skilled workers but yet no way to train/learn up those high tech skills.... sad.

I think they should use tax money they get from tax payer to built more house to make it affordable to live in. I am not homeless but food less. Rent is so high, so after you paid rent, there is not a lot of money left to buy food
This is all a total falacy.
The only people "on the streets" in London during the pandemic are those who were kicked out or refused to go into temporary housing. ALL London Boroughs prioritised money from thier own funds and Central Government , rented hotels and student accomodation to provide single rooms, shower, cooking facilities, free food, free mobile phones, free clothing (all on top of thier Universal Credit) and free housing (with no bills) for EVERY SINGLE HOMELESS PERSON OF ALL AGES.
There are only about 40% of all homeless who have genuine needs - the rest are playing the system and are full of self entitlement. Charities sprend 70% of thier money on staff and admin and STILL make enough to show profit, pay staff £20.00 per hour and pay all bills.
Homelesness is big business.

Well said. The pandemic has badly affected people of all ages.
Not all over 55s are homeowners and comfortably off as society would have everyone believe.
The council told me to pay 1400 a month sign a contract at night and go toa rough area alone when i coulld not walk with post covid i refused and they wouldnt help. just the day i was going to sleep at station a worker stepped in now I have temporarily a tiny single room. I still dont function properly but at least have roof over my head. Im all alone at 60.

Not much of a difference unless you are going for highly competitive corporate graduate roles. Most work places prioritise extensive experience over top tier academics.
The grinding poverty within the European union is far, far worse than that which can be found in the UK.
When it comes to helping people it's about appropriating the right help. Appropriating help has a real sense of empathy in regards to those who need it. By actually going out of one's way to selflessly make a difference in another's life.
Therefore, giving advice and making suggestions without genuine compassion doesn't help anyone. Due to the fact that the person hasn't been taken into careful consideration, in order for the right help to be applied.
Not only that, but charitable deeds seems to undermine the help people need. They often have short term solutions with unrealistic expectations.
We feed the homeless, offer places of temporal accommodation, clothed them and give money. But not selflessly. Not in ways which will actually make a difference in their lives. Where it all becomes government's diplomatic priority, which doesn't consider the best interest of those who are poor at heart.
The poor are just left to the negligence of the government and the self righteous.
We don't open our homes up to the homeless. And help them to work through any issues they may have until they can have stability, a place of there own and a means of financial support. Due to an unwillingness not to bear anyone elses burden apart from there own.
It's getting even more worse,Lately there been a lot more homeless people living in the streets in my local town as well in King's Lynn,living in sleeping bags,on the ground,Winter time is on its way,best get something sorted,Ive once been homeless,Quite a long time ago,I broke in to an old abandoned building in King's Lynn,Made my self a bed in curtains I took of the windows,Sleept in it,Woke up next day trying to get out,Then set of the alarms,I soon quickly got out and cleared of quick,abandoned building no longer exists no more,All new Houses built there now

The best solution if you are homeless is to get a mountain bike and build a parcel delivery trailer from scrap and deliver flowers, food, parcels etc.
My alcoholic mother attempted to drown me as a baby, my dad & stepmother abused me, disowned my mixed race daughter at birth, had me jailed & my material banned for five years courtesy of Crown court. All of my belongings were then stolen by family & my daughter’s silence bought in exchange for disowning her dad. My Jehovah’s Witness aunt was also found to be abusing her young son & is still a Witness to this very day whereas I’ve been shunned & have had absolutely every single belonging stripped or stolen from me including my whole entire music collection. All except my dog, my one & only true friend but nobody will house me with him. This world is a wicked place! 😥

People don’t need charity, they need support and parents could do a lot better by staying together for the sake of their children.
I really feel for people suffering mental health issues in any situation. It’s Just a black hole, terrible!
The problem is. Parents can't hold their tools inside their pants nowadays, they get children because everybody else does, but when reality sets in it's already too late, the damage is done because the child has already been born. Kicking out their children at age 18 should stop, even if society demands that. But I also want to adress the other problem leading up to children getting kicked out and that is social media. Being parent is supposed to be hard and unfortunately society has made it 100 times harder. 200 years ago (before the urbanisation) 3 generations used to live in the same house.
Just 1% of the tax money will solve the problem, where's the government?
I always wonder whether I should give some change to homeless people. On one hand it could save their life by getting just that tiny bit of extra food/drink they need. On the other hand, it'll encourage them to keep begging and they'll never go to a homeless shelter or do anything about their homelessness

How about there young people would look for actually affordable accommodation instead that which cost them 3/4 what they earn. How about they would focus on getting a job and saving instead of enjoying 'London life' that they cannot afford.

It's not much easier here in America, well perhaps depending where in the u.s actually. Its a hit or miss, and here in central Wisconsin it isn't to bad. I wish I could send supplies to the homeless there. If I could, I would. Were all children of the earth.

These people are a joke they don’t care about their own family they rebel against parents don’t listen to them doing parties smoking drinking and doing drug but disrespecting parents and not studying and when the parents finally had enough of them they tell them to leave and now they are acting like its their families fault their family dont care about them
