In my 37 years this is the third movie that makes my tears to fall unreasonably, no explanations it is just that it speaks through my heart and though I kept on ignoring it, the message of this movie insists to show me of what I need to admit to walk again the way I see life when this emptiness didn't affect my views on this journey.
37 years isn't really that long sweetie. And there's nothing wrong with having spontaneous tears that come from honest emotions even if you don't understand them. It credits a beautiful, honest, sensitive heart ❤️ 💙 💜. Not many people can say that.
I saw this originally way back. I've seen it maybe 4 times and I love it every time. Should know that actors of that caliber don't make junk, right? Enjoy.
Seen this film first time last Christmas now it’s hard not pass it up ,it’s funny how many good films we discover in our later yrs now it’s a new one for watch list for Christmas to come
A movie full of love, drama, hope. Wish there were a sequel presenting us with a permanent union between Jason Robards & Julie Harris, after her divorce from her deplorable husband.
😢🌹✝️🛐 I love this movie. I keep coming back to it. John and Iris. Poor Iris. Loyalty is such a great quality though. God expects that of us. Pity about her husband. Thanks for the upload. God bless us all. No one's perfect in this world.😢💕
@@ChickenSoupForTheSoulTV 🙂You're welcome! P.s. You know, I always scrolled past the 'Chicken soup for the soul' thinking "What's that? Not in the mood for any recipes."🤭 Imagine my surprise after the movie when I realised it was from the Chicken Soup people!😁 Great movie! Thanks again.💕
@@MOGGS1942 😁I can certainly do that. I have nothing to do with "the god nonsense", and everything to do with the Living God. As you should too, Friend. God loves you.💕✝️😇
Very pleased and surprised by this movie, so many feelings in not many words! Each line is supposed to be there, still mysterious and unexpected. Except maybe at the end, where I would have hoped for one more of his plans or attempts
Brutally awkward. "Are we friends?" a searching question for the lonely souls in our world. Serious and sober film but great actors take little things and build something that is reflective of real life and the elements of characters we all can identify within our own life experience. Very good.
This has a bittersweet ending.. because you kind of got to like the two main characters together... only for the rug to be pulled out from under the viewer. I think he needed to have that experience in order for him to start living and relating to people again.. while I'm hoping she realizes that there is something more out there for her then what she currently has.
I felt sorry for The woman what a jerk her husband was having her pretend to be single just so they could have the money I'd seen this movie years ago when it first came out and was pleased that I found it here what a beautiful place to have Christmas sad a let's pretend holiday for two perfect strangers
I’ve seen this movie twice now and I liked it but it was bittersweet-the actors were very good- tho this came before the internet and now you can look at dating sites on your computer or smartphone to look for the person of your choice- I think they wouldn’t please anyone if it wasn’t right- well,if John had met that woman in the cafe in the first place, that would not happen at all- I guess he learned an idles. A lesson from this- good filmany film anyone anyway!😢😢😢
While it is a very good film it is not what I was expecting or wanting in a Chicken Soup for the Soul or a Christmas film. I am left with an overwhelming feeling of sadness at the plight of the one who thinks themself stuck in a marriage to someone who cares so little for their emotional and physical well being. 💔
It's a rough situation- but sometimes people stay married because they need the financial security too. Many marriages break down over money too though so I guess people do the best they can & if they're lucky they can at least try to have each other's backs. It's probably better than dying alone.
There's a movie I saw years ago late 60 s it was called silent night lonely night with Lloyd Bridges and Shirley Jones a bittersweet movie about two strangers who meet and come together for one night it was a Very good movie that I hope comes available on utube
I have this movie on DVD. I like the story but everytime I watch the beginning I fall asleep.i tried watching it 3 times over Christmas 2023 everytime I fail about 10 minutes into movie I fall asleep.
I imagine iris was very uncomfortable knowing that she's living a lie and being pressured by her husband to pretend she's single so they could get the money under different circumstances and she had really been single perhaps there could have been a Future for her And John that woman's husband didn't deserve her loyalty!!!!!
Oops 😮😮 wrong actress that wasn't Eva Marie Saint with Jason robards it was the actress that played in the original the haunting although they do resemble each other both very good actresses
Very sad, this man would rather live in a fantasy with no emotions and no feelings for this woman and make her play the part, than to spend time with his family. So much for family caring, it never existed. What an empty person he is.
Good movie poignant touching good acting by Jason robards and Eva Marie Saint loneliness during the holidays is a very common occurrence especially at Christmas Time not everyone has a Holly jolly Christmas there was another good movie made in the late 60 s with Lloyd Bridgesnd Shirley Jones a more mature movie but well acted and poignant

Absolutely!
Agreed. I watch this every Christmas.
It's a Christmas movie I play each year. It's also has an awesome music score.
I'm trying to figure out the name of the opening song... any ideas?
The music was composed by Max Harris. Not sure where you can find it if not here on TH-cam.
An amazingly good movie- simple story with an intelligent script. Jason Robard an outstanding actor.
Yes he was - a two-time Oscar winner in the late 1970s. Thanks for watching, Sheila.
@@ChickenSoupForTheSoulTV please tell me what were his oscar winning movies. Would really like to see them.
@@sheiladesoysa7112 'All the President's Men' and 'Julia'. He was also nominated for 'Melvin and Howard' :)
Good story, but Why Agent for dating used his wife? She said they needed MONEY? FOR SHE WAS MARRIED!!
She played her part accordingly
A movie that I will never forget. ♥️
A very sweet movie- I love it. The music is perfect.
Thank you for sharing this. I search for it every year.

You can't go wrong with Julie Harris and Jason Robards! Two Oscar-level actors in one movie! Thanks for the nice comments, Linda.

A classic. I watch it every Christmas. Still recall when it premiered.
So good to hear from fans of this movie!
It is a hidden gem. Many of us experience Christmas like Robards and Harris in this film.
I must say I never saw that coming, never expected that at all.
A movie full of love, drama, hope. Wish there were a sequel presenting us with a permanent union between Jason Robards & Julie Harris, after her divorce from her deplorable husband.
I like that idea a sequel with the two together after the divorce they seemed to have a connection

very real. i love this movie
Julie was in the haunting The original still one of my favorite ghost 👻👻 stories and she did so well in the part of Elinor in that movie
Totally original and goes directly to the Heart x....

Felt sorry for the poor man.
He did everything to try to put her at ease. She sure didn't bother to make things a bit less awkward did she?
Depressing

Too bad he didnt make this film when he was about 20 years younger. Might have been very interesting.
Beautiful, realistic.❤❤❤
Somehow similar movie - One Special Night (1999)
Now one special night is a wonderful movie through and through!
This didn't speak to me at all. And it most certainly is not a romance.
The comments around me say it was posted for them, then :)
This a minor classic. The two leads are magnificent. It's not a " holiday romance " though.
Interesting, but somber. Could be livelier.
Very sad, this man would rather live in a fantasy with no emotions and no feelings for this woman and make her play the part, than to spend time with his family. So much for family caring, it never existed. What an empty person he is.
Not all families are cosy and happy environments.

It's not Eva Marie Saint, it's Julie Harris. EMS could well have played the part though.
Bogus movie
