    you can tell it's quality material, all those grubs coming out of it couldn't be wrong!

      @YankeeAxeToolCo Indeed, the sapwood of this walnut has started to degrade and get buggy, and will be trimmed off as waste. The heartwood, however, is 100% sound. I'm planning a video showing how I use a heavy hatchet to quickly hew off the bulk of waste.
      It's rich, you commenting on 'quality material' given how I just schooled you about oak and also how the stock of hickory you have that you think is mockernut because of the dark coloring, is actually dark because of fungal attack i.e. decay. The picture on your fb page shows obvious dark spalting lines in it. You do know what spalting is, right? I have to ask because you clearly demonstrated in one of your livestreams that you don’t know the difference between quilted figure and ray fleck patterning. Anyway, hickory like that has begun to lose strength, and you might want to think twice before using it for handles. At least, I certainly wouldn’t recommend using it for handles you plan to sell. The various subspecies of hickory are virtually impossible to distinguish just by naked eye examination of the wood. Go to Wood Database and look at the photo of a mockernut hickory board. It has the same off-white sapwood and tawny brown heartwood that is typical of all the hickories.
      By the way, you’re welcome for showing you this small tip on breaking down logs. I saw how long it took you and how much you struggled just to halve a single 4-foot birch log. Your Twitch feed is hard to watch in general, but that was painful!

      So you're telling me you sat through over a month of old daily 8 hour videos and sifted through over a years worth of FB photos and you still haven't stopped in to say hello on live stream?
      Yeah no, that definitely sounds like you are having a hard time watching my stuff lol.
      Sorry for the delayed response though, I only look at this stuff when I am sitting on the john in the morning. Remember, we're live and unedited almost every day almost all day. It's a really friendly group so feel free to introduce yourself! Maybe we can clear up some of that confusion on what you posted.

      @YankeeAxeToolCo. I've just browsed a few of your Twitch streams and FB posts. I saw enough to get a sense of your knowledge and skill level. Notice how I didn’t feel the need to rudely correct or disparage you in the comments, even though I saw you doing and saying things I know to be incorrect? Looks like you mostly do pretty decent axe build work from what I could see, even if it does take you forever. Your understanding of wood, however, is as low as your insecurity is high. Dunning-Kruger Effect in full effect on that front, I’m afraid! If you are doing the Twitch thing all day every day, that must be your actual job, right? You’re a professional content creator? Because I know there is no way you could make a living selling axes and handles with how slow you work. Your viewers do seem really friendly judging from the few comments I saw. And you yourself come across as kind, thoughtful, and encouraging -- the diametric opposite of how you behave here. I bet your fans would be shocked and appalled to see how you have conducted yourself toward me. Tell me, which of these opposite personas is the real you? I would be delighted to pop in on your Twitch feed, but only as an onscreen guest. And only if you agree to 1) let me read these many exchanges you have initiated in my comments, and 2) actually address the substance of my rebuttals without deflecting or going into personal attacks.

      @@bastionheadwoodworks I wonder if this is how joe rogan felt when kamala harris tried to dictate the terms of her being on the podcast lol… also, it’s not rude to point out you think someone has made a mistake or is incorrect, but it does explain a lot.

      @YankeeAxeToolCo. I’ll take that as a NO on allowing me to show your viewers who you really are. And thanks for the excellent Rogan/Harris analogy! It does illustrate our dynamic perfectly, but you once again got it backward from reality. Actually, I’m Rogan here and you are Harris. The fact that you decline the offer tells us all we need to know of your intentions. I’m the one who wants the long form, uncensored, open dialogue with full disclosure of all the facts. You are the one who is scared to be openly questioned and have to answer for your ideas and conduct, and therefore declined the offer. And just like Harris, your campaign is a disaster because you consistently refuse to actually answer any of the questions put to you or provide reasoning for the ideas you push. I must say though, I’m impressed! You were able to somehow invert that dynamic in your mind and see yourself as the good guy defending truth and transparency - a truly stunning feat of mental acrobatics!
      Also, I agree it is not necessarily rude to point out if someone is mistaken. However, I have provided thorough and unassailable reasoning and evidence showing that it is in fact you who is mistaken. Every. Single. Time. You can continue to hound after me like the Karen you are, but this behavior makes it abundantly clear that your ego-driven aim is not to ‘correct’ me for my betterment, but to tear me down because you can’t stand the idea that someone might be better than you. Just like with politics, your ineffectual, twisted, flailing attempts to villainize and cancel me are becoming ever more desperate, sad, and absurd and are only going to backfire.

    Hey not really related to the video but do you ever rasp to shape your handles I subscribed

    • @bastionheadwoodworks
      @bastionheadwoodworks  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes! Sometimes handles may have figured (curly) or interlocked grain, which are extremely difficult to deal with using blades. In these cases I use a farrier's rasp instead of a spokeshave to do the intermediate shaping.

      @Noahkam_13 Thanks! It is unbranded. Probably made in China, India, or Mexico within the last 20 years. I have several heads identical to this one that I have found at garage sales and the like.
