I catch mine using a small float and a size #12 long shank hook, my bait of choice is fresh white bread or small bits of prawn, I put some bread into a water bottle and shake it up and pour it into the water for burley every couple of minutes. They are good fun to catch.
thank you for ur comment. yes they r great to hook up to especially the big ones

Hi Peter I've been watching your videos and they are great!
I also fish around Auckland and Ti Point is the spot where I normally go.It's a great spot for many fish I've caught heaps of yellowtails(jack mackerals) there all year round, there are snapper there in the Summer,a few pipers and I've caught a few kingfish there a nice 310mm one and a couple undersized ones.Overall it is a great place to fish and I hope to see you there if you have the time to go!Keep up the great vids man!
Sorry my mistake the biggest kingfish I caught at Ti Point was 76cm!
thank you for ur comment
is it from the wharf in ti point?
iv had luck with black prawns and bran im gonna combine oily baits with bran
Very informative, great work, and I'm looking forward to the next vid, cheers
+John Rolis thank you :)
Nice.😆 mate
Good
Cool videos man, subscribed! Sorry if you're repeating yourself but do you mind me asking what you're using for berley in the video? Looks like it works mean as!
lol hello and thank you for subscribing. :) i might make a berley video later on to show more details but for my berley i was using oily fish like pilchard, mullet, kahawai and bonito/skipjack tuna with chicken feed.
Great video I find oats a good berly for piper
+manaku_fishing _nz thank you :) lol i prefer to use oily berley since it may attract bigger fish to the berley trail lol
+Basic_Fishing Do you use pier as bait fo do you eat them?
+manaku_fishing _nz both lol they're good bait and good to eat
If y'all don't want to make up a rig yourself, a sabiki under a float works just as well and the hooks are the perfect size. I use small anchovy baits cut to suit.
lol haha its always good to have a variety in different situations
Good video
thank you :)
Hey mate you should get into diving for crays etc..
Agreed
How to do attach the float to the sabiki rig😊
lol well the right type/size of sabiki also helps haha
5:30 I see you're using a Korean chili paste (태양초 고추장) container! Got one in my fridge! Are you Korean?
yes i am lol
Where in nz do u fish for piper
pretty much almost everywhere, where there is calm water and plenty of food. plus as long as u add the berley to the water, they will turn up without question
Basic_Fishing ok thanks
I went fishing there today with the piper rigs and surfcaster and got nothin. ????
hmmmm... well theres hardly any small fish around due to the cold weather n i struggled to catch any piper lately. i would recommend around the warmer months would be a lot more productive
Where did you buy your float from
i got my float from a korean store around the north shore. but ive seen the 'pencil floats' being sold in most tackle stores nowadays like smart marine for example.
Basic_Fishing what would you be looking for in a float and what price range
floats r cheap so u dont have to worry about price ranges. i personally prefer to use those 'pencil floats' because they are streamlined and makes it easier to detect bites n plus they look cool lol
Basic_Fishing is there a certain mg for the float like the bobber floats
dont think so. btw its mostly the size of the float that u use and the weight that u apply that is the key on float fishing. the smaller the float, the little weight u use to prevent it from sinking down and the less resistances the fish will feel wen taking the bait
I did it with a net
I caught my first piper with my hands
In my opinion bonito or skipjack tuna is the best bait
i used to use a lot of skippies for bait till i started to explore more on different baits. now its hard to say which bait is the best
Basic_Fishing yea and some baits are better for different time of year and different places
MATE! got a isopod / loice in my piper that I caught and it sprayed Babies EVRYWHERE! It was soo frickin yuck.
u mean those tongue lice? haha omg that must have been gross XD
Piper , another great live bait for kingi's..
We call this ballyhoo.
ive used ballyhoo as bait before. much more fatter than the pipers
@@BasicFishingNZ So there's pipers, ballyhoos and needle fish that all kinda look the same. wow
