    This weekend I will buy one of these sabiki rigs! Thank you for this video, yours and a couple I found of people catching mackerel off Wellington harbour have helped me to figure out where to start with fishing! I’m a student and fish costs too much to have been in my diet since moving to welly, so I thought what’s stopping me from going out and catching my own? Think I’ll start with mackerel since they’re in the harbour and apparently pretty edible!

    Had fun with my first sabiki last night, I admit was really fun catching and releasing the small mackerel then waiting to hook a big fish

    nice one bro, I usual cut my sabikis in half it makes them easyer to handle and less tangles.

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      haha thats a pretty handy method to do. especially for children cause less hooks means less risks of getting hurt as well as tangles lol

    I caught a big kahawai on those hooks 😂

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      im not surprised haha the sabiki imitates the kahawai's natural food source which is krill. not to mention they seem to prefer tiny baits wen they r very picky

    Excellent video bro. Just wanna ask, what is the weight of your sinker/weight?.

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hello thank you for your comment. since i was using small/lightweight rods I was using between 2 - 3 ounce sinkers.

    What size hooks do you recommend for catching pilchards or yellow eyed mullet?

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi thank you for ur comment. the hook size i used for pilchard that day was a size 8: makes it a lot easier for the fish to get hooked up. for yellow eyed mullet its the smaller mullets that will attack the sabiki rig(when it's baitless) and only the bigger ones will go for the bait. hope that helps

    Hi Peter. I am a big fan of you. But I have a question, for wharf fishing, which one is the best area?

    • @BasicFishingNZ
      @BasicFishingNZ  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you for ur comment n support. tbh there is no such thing as 'best area' it all depends on the day condition and the tide. i fished in many unlikely places n managed to get some good fish on the right conditions.
